Holy crap. New throwbacks revealed for Oct 8.

I have actually always preferred the current navy and Vegas colors but it has always bothered me that our colors are actually the same as ND and our shade of blue is exactly the same as PSU, WVU (even Duq and RMU for that matter). The royal and canary scheme is not shared by any other D1 team, whereas there are several D1 teams who have either navy and vegas or navy and yellow (like Cal).

This just gave me morning wood. If they have the entire uniform for sale tomorrow I would buy it.

No disagreement.
But a hue of gold is different than canary yellow and the wrong blue.

Whatever
true but we've pretty much covered every shade of blue and gold/yellow in the last 30 years that any connection to a "throwback" color could be debated.. Even our new branding expert released our new official color scheme only to have new uniforms that come nowhere near this..

There is a pic out there with Fralic, mid game, in our glory days, where him and the O-lineman next to him are wearing two completely different uniforms. In the same game.. It's priceless. The blue and gold were the same shade though..

If they have to do a throwback at least use the Johnny Majors gold inspired patina fromthe MtLion of WPA
You know the Tony Dorsett MNC commonly referred to as mustard

This canary crap is Gottfried/Buddy Hackett era.
What a bunch of Jabronies.

Obligatory those aren't our school colors post

Correct. Still not the school colors, but these are very nice. A much more unique look and you won't mistake Pitt for another team in FBS. Much better than the unis they presented last month. How long will it be before Pitt finally realizes that either these or the Marino colors are the way to go?

The Dorsett colors should be the standard .

The new uniforms look worse than last years in my opinion

I agree, I liked last year's unis better.. Throwback or alternate, same to me.. The new unis released today are a cool "3rd" option, alternate uni.. Not gonna get hung up on words such as throwback or traditional.

The school colors were defined in May... I'm not sure why this is difficult to understand? The school colors are not some arbitrary time YOU decided they were official...it's the school that makes the call and they did and not just the athletic dept...but the University..

Having said that the alternates look great BUT they look more like 87-88 than 76....still cool... My guess is for Penn State Pitt will wear all blue along with the matte blue helmets....a great contrast to the marshmallow costume that PSU will wear

Vegas Gold went out the door about 3 4 years after introduced by Smiley during Smiley I

Whatever color number they picked now is not Vegas. Vegas was nice but it's gonzo.

You're spot on about about the uni timelines....

but a Throw Back has to be to the Tony Dorsett uni.
Has to
We won a MNC in those and that gold as defined by JMI was very nice.

Why on earth would they go to the sh!ttiest yellow ever worn by some of our worst teams and coached by Buddy Hackett.

The Pitt Ath Dept is just amazing.

What is difficult to understand is why the University can't just go with the original school colors. Old Gold and Navy Blue. Not hard, and certainly not arbitrary. Those were chosen over 100 years ago. But... Pitt just can't resist.

That's a bingo.
Why?!
One reason may be the institutional memory of the Pitt Ath Dept is screw ups??
Just a thought.

Do a Google search of the 1982-1984 Pitt uniforms and these are pretty close in terms of color. Good news: they did a throwback. Bad news: they are a throwback from the Foge years.

You can't have everything.

If you mean the 70s colors as old gold then you off...athletic uniforms were the only place that color existed...ok t shirt designs... The current blue gold combo is on everything even the David Lawerence redesign...It's obvious Pitt is settling on a color scheme with the alternates vin football as a tribute...not sure what's wrong with any of that? Plus I've heard Script is also going to be the University logo as well...how can anyone be disappointed?

We need to dump the present unis and go to those full time ASAP. You want to brand yourself, have a unique identity, those would do the job. Instead our unis don't stand out a bit from ND, GT, Navy, Akron, etc.
This. Pitt needs to go with something like this, which is unique and eye popping.

Pitt looks nothing like ND Navy or Akron now....please visit Lenscrafters .....

Speaking of Pitt not taking advantage, I go to shoppittpanthers.com and I can only find 1 (yes ONE) "polo" in the throwback section. There are 14 kinds of men's tshirts and 10 men's sweatshirts. Do they think the only people who want to rep Pitt are sloppy teenagers and not adults? Of course, there aren't many options in the "general" men's polo section either. Pretty annoying.

Narduzzi said at the media session today that the seniors will vote after the Oct 8th game on what unis to wear and that he is open to anything including if they want to do the throwbacks later as well. Curious if they have an away throwback set.

Very nice

That should not be the alternate uniform, they should wear that every game. Why they adamantly refuse to make their best uniforms their regular uniform makes no sense to me. If they want an "identity" that's it, nobody else looks like that, and it's classic throwback to the real glory years.

Branding the script is good. I am all for it and have been so for many years now. Most people like the script logo better because it doesn't look like some cookie cutter image decided on in a board room. It has a legit connection to Pittsburgh's history (like the Steelers logo has a connection to Pittsburgh and steel), and has a connection to great success on the football field. The only thing missing from the look is using the originally University colors, which are essentially the Dorsett colors. I guess they had to make a decision at some point, and went with the current color scheme out of convenience and cost concerns. I can understand that decision, but I think they should have just sucked it up and made the color change then as well.
