How do you shoot 36% from the free throw line?

It's really incredible. At least in the old days when we couldn't make FT we still won haha

You shoot 36% from the FT line by not practicing free throw shooting. They're called FREE THROWS. They should be free points, for the most part, and we somehow think we have to pay for them.

This happens when you have a coach that is worried about everything but basketball (social issues, woke, crying about the refereeing, excuses, etc.). Does no coaching apparently, and his recruiting is non-existent. A 6th grade CYO player can shoot better than 36% at the foul line and you cant blame the referees for this. Your star player who some on this board screamed and yelled when he was not player of the year proved why today. This wont get any better.

I would like to think most D1 basketball players shoot enough free throws to hit at least 40% blindfolded. 36% is simply mind numbing.

JC had a terrible shooting game but Pitt could still have won by making a reasonable percentage of its free throws. This stat stuns me.

If we had made the NCAA average today we would have won by, ah, wait, um, hold on a second, that can't be right, ah, er, well, hmm, OK. We still would have lost.

Well I love hcjc but that’s on the coaches

I don't know, if they are shooting every night in practice and working on it, and go to the ACC tourney with a group of players , for whatever reason, for whom "the moment" is too great for them, I am not sure what else he could do right now.

I don't know about the rest of y'all but back when I played in HS we shot 25 FT every practice minimum, mostly tied to some form of punishment starting at like 84%. Then on most nights and Saturdays /Christmas break there was always time to shoot more after practice but 25 was the standard and I pretty much think as a team we shot pretty close to 75% in games each season...this was a loooooong time ago and the coaches from JH on all kinda ran things the same way. I have a hard time understanding poor foul shooting from D1 players ?

Then they are wasting their time and should probably practice some other facet of the game that would make a difference, cause FT practice ain't yielding results.

How do you know that? If they weren't practicing them maybe instead of shooting 66.4% on the season we'd be shooting 56.7% (which is what Mississippi Valley State is shooting this year).

Haha...anything is possible I guess. Nobody ever really knows and most of these debates cannot ever be resolved.

You should recognize trolling when you see it though.

We had to shoot 100 FT's sometime during practice. No excuses to shoot anything less than 70% while aiming for 100%.

The notion that some people have the Pitt doesn't practice foul shots is batshit crazy.

While I am sure Pitt practices FT shooting, there is very little any coach can do to correct FT shooting. This complaint is one of my all-time hated. You're either a good FT shooter or you arent. I hope to God we arent talking about how the coaches need to work with Femi on FT shooting for the next 3 years. The kid isnt a good FT shooter. Thats it. End of story. He does other things well. He will max out at 60%, tops and that's ok if he makes up for it in other areas.
