Pitt's RPI is back up to #6 even with the recent loss to ND and demoralizing UVa draw. #14 (RPI) VT come in on Friday and Pitt needs a win plus a ND loss at UNC to win the Coastal. Perhaps more importantly, they need a win to clinch a first round ACCT bye.

The way things are shaking out, if Pitt is able to win out including the ACCT, I think they still get a Top 4 NCAAT seed with Georgetown, Marshall, and Wash/Oregon State, which is vital because it means a home game in the Elite 8.

But Pitt desperately needs Petkovic back. Jasper is back and was sensational last night but for this team to be "Alabama" they need Petkovic. In my opinion, he and Jasper are the best 2 players in the country.

You’ve been on the home game vitality thing all season. I just don’t see it as that big of a deal.

what is going on these days with Petkovic?

No idea what's going on with Petkovic. He was warming up Monday so maybe he's close to getting back but going back to last season, this team have won almost every game they've played (except WVU and Akron and Indiana) when he and Jasper play.

Pitt has won 17 straight as home but is 2-4-1 on the road this season, not including a road exhibition loss at Maryland. Pitt is much better at home and I think their comfort playing on turf plays a big part.

2 sweet goals. Boy that red card was a bit extreme. Yellow for sure, don’t see the red. That pretty much ended it for VT.

Petkovic in 2nd half

Except the player was tangled up and already falling down.

Just watched the replay. Not as clear-cut as it looked live. I'm not sure if the NCAA rule is the same as the FIFA rule but if it is, it has to be red if you call a foul there since he's the last defender and its a clear goal-scoring opportunity. If the ref wanted to avoid giving a red, he wouldn't have been able to give a foul at all or call it on Almeida

It was bang-bang as they collided. The VT CB slipped and you can make the case that Almedia won possession for an instant before the VT CB awkwardly tripped him.

Watching it again, I think it was the right call though I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to make that call if I was reffing but then it probably has to be a no-call and you rarely ever see a collision resulting in a no-call.

Reminds me of the champions league game last week where the ref gave a player a yellow card after the player took 17 seconds to throw the ball in. No warning, no nothing. Straight yellow for stalling. The problem is, the player was already on a yellow for a foul earlier in the game. So his team had to play with 10 men for like 75 minutes. And that was the game.

obviously two different scenarios…but my example was one where the ref was certainly brave to change the game. But my thought is he didn’t realize the player was already on a yellow.

Even if VT had 11 on the field, Pitt dominated possession and looked like a team that would take over the game. Everything that could go wrong went wrong for VT, red card, PK, head injury, but Pitt also suffered some with Noel and Almeida getting hurt. Noel looked to be for the worse, and don’t recall almeida, I started to tune out a bit after halftime.
