I think we may be seeing the end of the Voytik era...

Neither looks great but Peterman did get us in the end zone. I don't have a lot of faith in these two come ACC time. Voytik seems to have regressed severely under Cheyney.

Voytik's regression is baffling! He is back to where he was at the beginning of last year. Thank goodness we picked up Peterman or we would be in deep sh!t right now.

Maybe Cheney is not as good as Chryst in QB development.

I thought at the time of the Peterman transfer that Cheyney must have had his doubts about Voytik. Maybe not, but it didn't bode well when your new OC brings in one of his old top recruits.

I give Peterman credit for running, but man that kid is slow. Stop running and getting blasted or missing the 1st down.

Also, who is the color guy? He's abysmal. The play-by-play guy is trying so hard to get him to help.

I mean not to pile on Chad, but he is putting up Hackenburg type numbers. Change may be needed...

until the first time peterman struggles for an extended period of time, then the voytik era will be back with a vengeance because that's how fans are.

12-17
148 yards
1 TD pass
3 TD drives overall
very lucky not to have 1 lost fumble

is a chad voytik stat line if i ever saw one (and one that would have people calling for peterman to start if it had been chad's stat line today) but judging from the prevailing opinion it was actually 24-32 for 312 yards and 3 TDs and i'm just reading the box score wrong.

Unless one guy really outshines the other, I wouldn't be surprised to see this merry go round continue. I believe Peterman will start against Iowa but if he doesn't produce, I won't be shocked to see Voytik. Someone has to take the bull by the horns. Chad hasn't looked sharp on a single drive when he's been in there.

if the rotation was still going on we would have seen Voytik back in the 2nd half. We didn't and i think that speaks volumes.

You didn't see a rotation because one guy actually engineered a complete drive and showed he could throw the ball. If Peterman stumbles next week at Iowa, I expect Voytik to play.

i don't know delpanther, this has a different feeling to me. we will see. regardless of who it is, i just want to see the w's adding up.

I think the multiple coaches, coordinators and schemes have finally beaten him down. His confidence seems shot and has no idea where the ball is going.

I mthink C
Well Chad didn't do anything to help himself - that's for sure
I think Cheney wanted his man Pederson all along and didn't trust Chad. I watched Chad get better every game last year. Now he looks like a kid that would transfer to Wisconsin but they scored 58 today.

I think Peterman is a better pure passer than chad but chad has more mobility. I would bring chad in with some run option type of packages to take advantage of his skill set.

I don't think Voytik improved much last year. What improved was how much the coaches protected him. This staff seems less inclined to be so coddling - hence Peterman's emergence. I think the are both going to play a LOT this season.

there's coddling and there's playing to your a guy's strengths so he can be effective. last year voytik may not have improved much in the sense of gaining command of his play outside his comfort zone, but he definitely improved in what he was doing out on the field.

Right, but that is because Chryst and Rudolph basically dummed down the offense to a high school level. They didn't want to do that but were forced to do it because they couldn't even move the ball against a team like Akron because of how atrocious our QB play was last year. Also, we had such an outstanding RB that we could afford to be predictable.

Once they went to the Brentwood High School offense, everything was EXTREMELY vanilla and was basically powers, QB sweeps, controlled roll outs, and the occasional nine route.

Before the season began some people were actually critical of the former staff for handcuffing Chad. LOL! When I read that I almost fell off my couch. As I said at the time, it wasn't the coaches handcuffing the QB, it was the other way around.

If that's not obvious to everyone by now, I don't know what to say?

I don't hate Voytik at all. In fact, I sincerely like that kid. Also, I don't think he's necessarily done as a starter here. I suspect this merry-go-round still has a few more whirls in it. However, I did expect Chad to play better than he did last week in extended action and this week in limited action.

The bottom line is Pitt has not had a decent QB in about a decade now and you simply cannot win consistently if you almost always have the second best QB on the field.

well my point is the brentwood high offense that voytik forced chryst to use would have worked well enough to win 8-9 games if the defense hadn't totally collapsed against the better competition in the middle and end of the season. and i think it would have worked well enough to win 8-9 games this year - even with conner out - but chaney isn't interested in doing that. so we have to hope that peterman is the real deal and doesn't have as many of the usual first-year starter problems or that voytik makes massive improvement in running a pro style offense and quick.

Dude it's one game and voytik will be here a while
I like what narduzzi is doing, no job is safe

I agree with you but to succumb to that reality is a setback for the program in the long term. The idea is to grow the offense, not to shrink it. You want to be as multiple and varied as possible, not predictable and one-dimensional.

On defense, if Narduzzi realizes that his players can only play zone coverage, you have to do what you have to do. However, that will hurt us in the short and long terms.

As long as you don't get caught in the trap of thinking "hey it worked for this guy," so you go looking for QBs to repeat the success of your simplistic system, I don't have a problem with it if you already have a QB who is effective in that system and has led the team to a bunch of points most games using it.

I agree you don't want to fall into that rut and not get out though as you're right eventually it will hurt you later in the season or several seasons down the road when you have a different QB who can't run a multiple and varied system and is also possibly not as physically gifted or mentally tough or whatever as the QB that started you down that road.

I'm talking about just Chad Voytik, I don't want to go recruit more mobile spread QBs and then put them into a very simplified pro system with some read-option because Voytik made that work pretty well under Chryst.

Chaney isn't going to do that anyway period so Chad is going to have to adapt and improve or he's going to be watching Peterman taking the snaps on Saturdays.

I dunno about that. Let's wait till years end and see if we have more than 6 wins. Because at the end of the day, that was all PC could muster with his QB teaching.

Iowa will be the real test thus far in 2015. Look much quicker and look like they are very well coached. Being a road game they will have a full house as their fan support seems lively.

Akron stacked the line of scrimmage to stop the run and it rained the entire game.
Chad is smaller and more of a running QB so this made sense. I think we have two QB s who will see action.

I agree that both will see action, but Chad will see less and less time if Peterman continues to improve. Chad will play when we want to run a "wildcat" type package where the qb has the option to run a lot. Chad is not a passer and never will be. Hopefully Peterman continues to improve. He's got a real nice arm.

Agree with most of you I hate the two qb system usually but it could be a strength for us.
Also, Chryst really was a phenomenal qb coach if nothing else.
