Unless the Hugley injury is long term, still have enough to make games interesting AND recruiting has been awesome.

Give him one last opportunity to show a chance of success.

If this year is more of the same, well....

I wouldn't even consider it now. We need that money for football. Plus he has a good recruiting class coming in. Let him try to scrap an NIT season together and see if he can start building something with the twins, next year's freshmen, etc. Firing a coach would just mean starting completely over without any recruits; I'd rather only kind of start over and have good recruits. I know: "The portal changes things; Wake Forest; blah, blah." But I'd rather let a top 15 recruiting class play out than not.

We've sucked so bad since Dixon's last season... What's another year or two at this point?

There isn’t one kid in this class that is worth keeping him over. He’s done if they don’t make the NCAA’s. Hugley will most likely bolt too
If that is the way you feel, if a good replacement was available now, would you fire Capel for cause and hire a new coach now?

with the current team in place and time to make an impression, wouldn't that be best? A hire after the season, at start of transfer portal puts a new coach behind the eight ball?

Of course you dont. He has an NIT quality team, with a few breaks, and 1-2 guys breaking out (this is probably a bad term considering our legal troubles), we could get to the bubble.

Also, Dior wasnt really his recruit. Dior called him and he said yes

There is zero grounds to as it isn't 3 strikes. Preliminary charges mean nothing.

The John Hugley situation and Horton situation both played out. Both came back to the team as I expected the entire time, which is actually what I said would happen after the incidents. Both had charges dropped down. John Hugley has turned himself into a good role model. The guy goes to charity events and different things for free. Let's stop acting like Big John is some major criminal with some huge rap sheet. He isn't. He is a leader and representing Pitt well.

This situation with Dior is obviously quite different than the previous 2.

Capel needs to do 2 things, which is exactly what I said in the other thread in response to bballinsider.

Make a push this year, 20 potential wins including postseason play. I believe we still have the players to do that as long as Hugley is good to go. The biggest keys this season are 3 point shooting and the play of the power forward position including Hinson and the twins. I think the backcourt is still fine without Dior. I was one of the few people who said he wasn't good enough to be 1 and done all along as he isnt a good enough shooter with high end athletic ability.

Keep the recruiting class which is good and add quality to it in 2023's class. There is still a very good chance of this happening.

Why is this even a thought? Given the crap show this team was at end of season there isn‘t one coach who wouldn’t have taken a chance on Johnson in the manner he did.

As I said before we have only heard one side of this story and it sure as Eff doesn‘t help that there is a local Pittsburgh media that goes on a feeding frenzy when this stuff happens. Other schools are allowed “time to heal” but Pitt gets its scabs picked again and again.

Even if its 10% true, its still really bad. I doubt everything is made up. He did some of that stuff.

I wonder if Capel had anyone really sit him down and explain/warn him that the Pitt job would be diametrically opposite in terms of media support and law enforcement malleability, vs what he experienced in previous jobs. I’ll bet he wouldn’t have taken it. Then again, maybe he just didn’t believe it.

And I’m not saying what happened was something that should have been buried by the media, or “made to have gone away” by the police/DA. I’m saying those things are absolutely what other coaches enjoy in most programs, including the one Capel just left and where he had been HC before.

What confounds me with this is …

Why did it take a month to file charges ?

Why would the police /authorities allow a guy whose strangling women , unlawfully detaining them and threatening to harm himself walk around free for month ? At the least a trip to Western Psych seems appropriate .

Are / where there cut marks on his arms ?

If there where strangulation marks on her neck wouldn’t he have been immediately arrested ?

If it’s as claimed over his IPhone /water issues they can test to see if the phone was submerged.( warranty)

A guy acting this aggressively doesn’t just morph into this behavior , are there past transgressions out there , if so they should be coming to light .

A lot of unanswered questions , seems like this could be a he said she said situation…….

If he’s guilty he needs to be gone , this isn’t taking a joy ride in a car .

God you are Stupid. Jeff had multiple arrests and suspensions durimg his dismantling of the OU program before he was fired. Instead of your typical whining and excuse making. Perhaps do a little research before proving what most already suspect of your intelligence.
Boy rapists like you deserve death

I recall the claims by some apologists that the media held off on reporting anything on the Penn State gang rapes that occurred earlier this year because “not enough facts were known”. It’s been effectively censored ever since. In this region, it simply did not happen. There are even fewer facts known about this situation, as you ably described; but by gum they slapped the story all over every screen and media in the region as soon as the slightest whisper emanated. Whenever any dolts make the claim that there is no bias for or against any program here, remember this situation.

There are a lot of perks with celebrity, but there’s some drawbacks too .

No way Horton and Hugley get charged in most campus towns

This crime was made to go away for about a month. If the DA were doing his job, the kid would have been arrested at the time of the felony and still be in jail. It might have been a case of the girl either being afraid of reporting the incident for fear of reprisal from Johnson, or she was ashamed to report it.
