I'd almost rather PSU lose like that than get blown out....

They have a really good team and played a hell of a game in the Rose Bowl against maybe the 2nd hottest team in college football. No shame in their loss if you ask me....but I am glad they lose.
I didn't say there was shame in the loss... I'd said it is a more painful loss.

A loss like that makes PSU fans "what if" for the next 8 months. It makes them question James Franklin's decision making under pressure.

Yeah... they played well in the 2nd and 3rd quarters.... but the blew the game. It was an epic choke, an epic collapse.

And it will sting those pricks for a while.

They pissed away a 14 point lead in THEIR quarter! There's permanent shame at psu

Bwaaahahaha!
No shame? - it was one of the all time super chokes.
It was a moral victory.
Bwaaahahaha. Love it
Pitt will kick their butts next year two.

Every loss in sports does that. Pretty much every day there's posts on here about what Pitt's record "should be" this year "if" a couple plays fell this way or that way.

PSU has a really good team, but can't say I'm sad to see them lose a tough one like this. They've had their fair share of good breaks this year and pretty much maxed their potential. They were due to have some bad luck at the end of a game for once.

PSU just ran into a great QB in a signature moment. Darnold was clutch while McSorley came up small. I'm not going to say PSU choked because every one of Darnold's passes down the stretch was nearly perfect, aside from the one floater where they got a little lucky.

So what. I wish Pitt was in the Rose Bowl and played a game like that. Man up and give credit where it's due.
Screw you. They choked BIG TIME. When we lose in the last seconds blowing a 2 TD lead, our coach, staff, players and administrators and fans are garbage.

This was a MAJOR choke job.

While I appreciate your logic, I would have much preferred they had lost 49-0.

No ... wait ... make 409-0.
DT.... rank these games according to how painful they were (and still are) for you:

- Scottie Reynolds hitting the shot to keep Pitt out of the Final Four in 2009.

- Nasir Robinson fouling under our own hoop on a missed FT and Pitt losing by 1 to Butler in the 2011 round of 32 game.

- Barry Goheen of Vanderbilt hitting the 3 to force OT and beat 2-seed Pitt in the 1988 round of 32 game.

- Pitt losing in OT to Kent State in the Sweet 16 in 2002.

- Pitt losing by 4 to Marquette in the Sweet 16 in 2003.

- Pitt getting blown out by Oklahoma State in the Sweet 16 in 2004.

- Pitt getting handily beaten by UCLA in the Sweet 16 in 2007.

- Pitt getting blown out by Florida in the Round of 32 in 2015.

Do you think those last three were more painful than the first 4 or 5? I don't.

The thing that would have put a cap on top of a great Pedster loss would have a horrific blown call by the officials in the closing seconds so that the Pedos could claim as usual that it was only the refs who beat them.

You don't play "what ifs" when you get blown out. There are no "what ifs" in the loss to Miami.

Pitt hoops fans are still haunted by Scottie Reynolds and his shot to keep Pitt out of the Final Four. Pitt hoops fans are not haunted by the 16 point loss to Florida the year before last.

Yeah that was definitely the best case scenario. All the times we have a game almost locked up and lose, the nitters flood this board. Absolutely hilarious to see them blow the game like that tonight.

The 4th Quarter was "owned" by PSU, according to them and their fans.

4th Quarter: USC 17, PSU 0.

I get your point, and I'm not trying to debate the issue really.

But there is a BIG difference in all the situations you've described and the PSU loss today.

All of those basketball losses, close or not, prevented Pitt from ADVANCING in a tournament.

No matter what happened today with PSU, their season was over. So I would have much rather they lost in pathetic embarrassing fashion.

But this is all pointless quibbling because PSU Sux and Joe Knew!

-I thought the same exact thing. Penn State QB lost the Rose Bowl on the same exact play they lost to Pitt.
Then you weren't paying attention. Trace didn't lose the Pitt game. Charles ran the wrong route. How many times do you need to hear that. 52-49. I'll take it. Hell of a game. Way beyond what anyone expected. All here said PSU would be blown out. Wrong again. They belong, and they proved it. Should be fun next year for both teams.

My point was that close "what if" losses stay with fans for years.

Put it this way.... OSU fans will forget their loss to Clemson rather quickly. They aren't going to beat themselves up about it. But had they lost to Clemson the way PSU lost tonight, the OSU fans would relive that game in their nightmares for decades.

42-39 and no playoffs for you. Pitt fans thank you for dropping by and allowing us to gloat once again...

lmao mortal enemy? It's sports man.
And if Pitt lost a game like that, you'd be on here ripping the team, the coaching staff, the refs, the announcers, and everyone else.

What kind of Pitt fan has the mentality that considers it an embarrassment for *OUR* team to blow a game like that.... but a badge of honor for our most hated rival to blow a game like that?

Interesting psychosis.
