IF Champagnie comes back

I think they would have a legitimate chance to make the tournament if they can bring in a serviceable big man or two. Even without Penny though could compete if Femi and Jeffress have big sophomore improvements and they bring in some height up front.

We haven't had a game changing big in a looong time. I thought Hugely had a chance to be that kind of player. Hopefully the staff is looking everywhere to find one.

Capel has only made the Dance 3 out of 12 seasons. Good luck with that. He's very good at having his teams collapse down the stretch though. We'd be a perennial final 4 team in the collapses department.

How is that dense? Hell of a lot better than we are getting right now. We win a few more games this year if we get a guy who can give us that on a regular basis with AKC coming off the bench. Plug that in with our guards and JC and things look a lot different next year.

I believe he’s implying getting a guy who averages 10 and 10 isn’t likely. Someone who could do that would be highly coveted. I know there is a lot of playing time available but there has been for a while and that doesn’t seem to be working.

I'm not saying we'll get a guy like that but it's what we need. Unfortunately Hugely could have become that by next year.

Wasn't Champagnie the only player from a high major conference to average a double/double this year? It's very unlikely that we're going to stumble across someone who can give us 10 and 10 next year. There aren't exactly a lot of those guys floating around.

I posted this before, I'll do it again. Here is the list of Pitt sophomores over the last 50 years to average 10 and 10:

Billy Knight
Sam Clancy
Jerome Lane
DeJuan Blair
and now Justin Champagnie

Anyone who thinks Hugley would have averaged 10 and 10 next year has lost their mind.

I would be thrilled with 7-7

Why would anyone think he could be an NBA first round pick? Without a better more consistent 3-point shot he is, IMHO, a second rounder at best--at this time.

Nobody said first rounder
He will be drafted - that’s enough

I’d say he’s probably less than 50-50 to get drafted at this point, the majority of the recent mock drafts don’t have him being picked. That has very little to do with his decision though, one of his major attributes when it comes to his pro career is his age, returning to college basketball makes very little sense for him.

Leaving now and starting to earn money playing basketball somewhere is the right choice for him to make.

Judging by his twitter and Instagram it looks like he’s leaving. Lots of headline reading. Just had something up today that had him 7th best SF prospect.

agree - this bubble was soft as hell this year

The off court stuff prevented us from being in the conversation today. Seeing some of these teams that are making it confirmed that for me

Even landing someone like this guy would have been huge. Solid serviceable freshman big. 3 stars.

I told you so!

we need this guy. He’s a realistic get with decent upside.

Maybe but remember that declaring for the draft and leaving aren’t the same thing. He could declare, go through the eval process and still come back to Pitt.

What odds are you laying he’s undrafted ?

Roster turnover is going to be insane in the next 3 months. It's hard to predict anything right now.

Pitt is going to have 3 or 4 new faces. A starting lineup of Femi/Sibande/Champagnie/Transfer power forward/transfer center could win 9 or 10 ACC games, maybe more. A starting lineup of Femi/Sibande/Jeffress/Collier/Coulibaly, who knows.

Other schools in the ACC are going to have turnover too, and the complexion of the league could change if one of the mediocre teams like V Tech or Clemson gets a big transfer or recruit. Of course Duke or UNC are due for a bounce back given their recruiting chops.

Meaning if I say $100 he gets drafted I win $200 if he does - you win $50 if he doesn’t ?

It would mean if you bet $100 at 2-1 odds you would win $200 if you won and would owe $100 if you lost.

-240/+200 on not being drafted are probably fair odds, but I would never hang that number on a board full of Pitt fans that I know will mostly bet the “yes”.

If you believe what the mock drafts say right now most have him not being picked, and I can’t really envision his prospects going up once his official measurements are taken.

With one good game under his belt, i don't understand all the hype on this board for an average role player in Sibande.

I agree. Why wasn't he playing when X and Toney were around? He was the 8-9 guy on a bad ACC team. Now he's the 3rd best player and fans feel good about it? If Nike is one of our top players next year, we're hosed.
