perhaps going after a coach like Rick Stansbury is the way to go.
Stansbury was at Miss St for 14 years. He had 1 losing team (his second). He had 5 teams finish 1st in the SEC West, and he won 2 SEC tournaments.
His 1st team at Western Kentucky was 15-17, but his 2nd now has 27 wins and is in the NIT final four. He returns 4 starters, so WKU may be picked to win CUSA next year.
Stansbury is not the kind of coach who will impress the media or casual fans. He is the kind of coach who will roll up the sleeves and do the hard and dirty work to stabilize a program and get it competitive.
He is a small town KY native, so he may now be happy to end his career at WKU (he's 59). But then again, he probably wants one more shot in a Major conference. All coaches want to coach in the big time.
