They should build it at least 50k capacity to start with...
Also, leave room to expand if we ever need to expand it.

Part of the lure and atmosphere at SEC games is tailgating how r u going to have that in parking garages spread all around the stadiumI'm not saying more fans. I'm actually saying less fans at higher price and make it a tough ticket.
Atmosphere is the goal and not more people.
Will there be parking at the new stadium? Or will we shuttled in? I would pay more, but would buy less tickets. They are such a bargain now that I buy 8.for each of your tickets? We had this lively discussion at the breakfast table with a bunch of lifelong Pitt fans of many different income levels and I was surprised at every answer was yes. I was actually surprised at this because I know how tough it would be for some people and they didn't even hesitate.
Someone pointed out that 40% more is still a bargain compared to all majors that surround us. It was also pointed out that it would have to be right on campus and not a mile from the Cathedral.
Listen, I'm a realist and going to Heinz is so easy to get in and out of for my two hour drive each way. I just have a feeling with the Stock Market about to go into a Santa Clause Rally, a few people may need to hide some money for a charitable donation and put their name on something that will last as long as the Cathedral of Learning.
I personally would not sneeze at a 40% increase if that was the way to make the economics work. I also would have no problem parking downtown and taking a shuttle to Oakland if I had to.
Many will say there is no room but that simply is not true. It's difficult and expensive but it could be done. It would be pretty cool to have all the concessions staffed by students and you felt great about telling them to keep the change. It really would be great hosting game day at the base of the Cathedral of Learning someday. I have not stepped foot on campus before or after a football game for over 20 years on game day.
I have a hunch that you are going to start to hear some real talk about a solution and someone just might make it happen this time.
To whom much is given, much will be required. I personally would pay much more per ticket if I saw a blueprint.
Have Pitt's version of Ole Miss's Grove in the cathedral lawn. I think it would be a great back drop to tailgate at. Then the party can continue after the game with the victory lights lit up on the cathedral. Even at Heinz Field each year more and more parking is being developed. It will soon be no better then Oakland.Part of the lure and atmosphere at SEC games is tailgating how r u going to have that in parking garages spread all around the stadium
What then, pray tell, does 40K in attendance in a 70K stadium scream? For the 10000th time.....40K SCREAMS MID MAJOR. Heinz is big league
Be honest , ketchup is a dump, seats are so far away from field, those ugly azz yellow backs, screams NFL dump, horrible for Pitt, but pretend it's great

Heinz does have some bench seating. The stadium doesn't need to be benches. You can do individual seats. I would have seats everywhere but the student section.I can’t take bench seating….they scream high school! I’ll take Heinz Field
Well their answers already demonstrate the spending and giving habits of these types. Certainly capable and willing (at least in talk) to give more to athletics, but won't unless an impossible scenario unfolds. It is no different than saying they'd give more when Pitt wins 10 national titles in a row. These are the same types that promised to up their game when Pederson was fired, and did not; or when the helmet font was changed, and did not. They are all-talk complete frauds, not to mention completely and willfully ignorant about the circumstances and situation of the athletic department and university.
I keep going back to the Football Excellence Fund that Pitt begged people all summer to contribute to...even sending Narduzzi out on a 7 city tour. Only netted about 100 donors at the $600+ level and most of the names are the same ones you see all the time. And people think it is realistic to fundraise for a project in the $100s of millions, even if it weren't logistically ludicrous? Willful ignorance.
This is dumb. All of it.
Repeatedly posting this topic by the delusional and WILLFULLY IGNORANT, week after week, plays right into the hands of Pitt's adversaries. Beyond moronic.
15 years of this stupid topic. Stop being stupid.

I think I posted it here before, but a FSU poster stated that during expansionpalooza 2012, the FSU AD was flooded with calls from FSU fans that stated they'd stop donating if FSU did not go to the Big XII. AD members then asked for their donor code so that they could check historic donations and found that the vast majority of fans causing the hysteria either never donated or donated very little.
Very similar to this stadium issue and other things Pitt fans complain about. The ones that complain the most do very little to help the athletic department and wait for unrealistic scenarios to "step up". That is not how it works in college athletics.
For those of you that think that on campus stadium will bring more fans, that will not happen and Pitt attendance figures(past history)prove that point.
Of course, one could use that method to justify just about any decision at a University, as most alums/fans aren't donors. It's actually a stupid verification method.
Ha. Yeah, listen to constant bitchers that don't support the program in a substantial way. That's the way to go!
The plan would be to drive a stake into tailgating (except for those who park on private lots), and force the majority of fans to meet in the local bar/restaurants on the North Shore.Part of the lure and atmosphere at SEC games is tailgating how r u going to have that in parking garages spread all around the stadium

I don't think it's an attack on tailgating as it is valuable land wasting away. Land between Heinz and PNC is gold (no pun intended). Apartment buildings going up are pricey, they need somewhere to park.. North Shore has finally turned into a destination other than steeler sundays. Vast parking spaces are a thing of the past, Personally I wouldn't pay 2k to live there but I am a boring suburbanite. I guess you don't have good reading comprehension. Whether the suggestions are good or bad, one can cross check those people and find that most do not donate. It's a form a confirmation bias.

Come on with this now, Great stadium?? Give me a break. For all the old buzzards complaining about having to (gasp) drive into Oakland, there are plenty of people that would.. I've said before, show me a fan that prioritizes parking and accessibility over game day atmosphere and i'll show you an old grump that will find something else to complain about.Another silly post about a stadium in Oakland. Why would Pitt spend all that money for a stadium in Oakland on land that does not exist to draw lower attendance. We did not draw in Oakland except when we played PSU and ND. Back out those teams out the last 20 years and do like wise at Heinz and compare. We now play in a great stadium.
In the case of stadium discussions, everyone who disagrees with CrazyPaco *IS* stupid. To be fair, you seem to think everyone who disagrees with your scripture is stupid.
Instead of staring at the seats... maybe you should watch the game.To respond to the original post, I would pay more.
In fact, I am considering not getting tickets next season. It's just not a good experience and I have better things to do on the weekend then stare at a bunch of empty yellow seats.

Guess who owns most development rights??? Hint: the last name begins with Roone_.Agree with this. It's not an attack on tailgating IMO. Like you said, that land is valuable and a lot of people can make a lot of money off of developing it.
One reason the north shore was dead outside of 8 sundays with 3 rivers was because there was absolutely nothing else to do there.

as long as it's privately financed, who cares? Hey, rooneys are smart and rich. They own a ton of land in ohio. Good for them.Guess who owns most development rights??? Hint: the last name begins with Roone_.

I hope so too. Political gaming in place. We should hope for an extension of downtown and not some sort of charitable giveaway and extension of the hill district. We've seen enough section 8 housing in the area and what that brings, time to try something else. My regards to the people who had to move in the 60's with the civic arena, time to get over it..And good for them for doing something about it. It was a wasteland over there before.
Developing that land was part of the stadium deals for both the Steelers and the Pirates.
I hope the Pens develop the land in the Hill as good as what is going on in the north shore.
And there's some people like myself, who are committed to never go to any games if tailgating ever ends, I admit, I go only to one Steelers game and one Pitt game per year, and I don't go to watch the game, I watch every game at home on my 52" TV, if it was just about watching the game, why go to it? No, I go there in person for a big blowout party, and I hate crowded bars where you need to get in line to buy the next $8 beer. So I'm not sure how many we are, but I am certain there are many people like me, who when the tailgating dies, they won't be coming anymore. If they don't want the Northshore to be dead on non game days, then building more apartments seems like a better choice. I suspect that they just want more people closer to the stadium with nowhere to tailgate.
Hey, maybe all this infrastructure and development helps pitt attendance. I don't know, better restaurants, more locals living within walking distance, cooler attractions, all could help get some "ambience" here, maybe give it that event feel over just a game. I don't know, maybe I am reaching. Funny thing is, there are always a lot of fans (so called anyways) around the stadium on gameday, we just have to figure out how to get em in their seats. So in short, disregard this whole damn post.
