Plain and simple Pitt had two chances on the road against mediocre teams to seal up a spot in the NCAAs and they didn't get it done. Very concerning.

With that said..lets take a peek at the box score and see who the main culprits are..

Mike Young was outstanding. That dude wanted to win today.

Mike shot 10/16 for 24 pts. Had 7 rebounds, tied for team high. He was 4/4 from the foul line.

Sheldon Jeter also brought it today. Sheldon was 4/9 from field for 12 pts and had 7 rebs. He was also 4/4 from the line.

The rest of the team...yikes.

The most well known stat is the obvious 0 for 11 from three. Inexcusable.

None of the guards on this team can make a shot.

From beyond the arc..
Chris Jones 0/2
James Robinson 0/2
Sterling Smith 0/3
Jamel Artis 0/2
Mike Young 0/1
Sheldon Jeter 0/1

Those were the 11 attempts from the outside. This falls entirely on Artis, Robinson, Jones, and Smith. One of them needs to step up and make a shot. They are all veteran players. Ridiculous.

Jamel Artis was 2/9 for the game. He finished with 6 pts. He had 0 rebounds. He had 3 turnovers. Simply put..he was terrible.

Ryan Luther inexplicably played only 6 minutes in the game. That is ridiculous and falls entirely on the coach.

Damon Wilson was also awful. He is overmatched. Damon was 0/4 from the field and scored 0 pts in 16 minutes.

Cameron Johnson did not play due to injury.

Maia and Nelson-Ododa logged 9 combined minutes and did not score. Maia had 2 rebounds.

James Robinson was his typical self. I am not going to harp on James for this loss. He is what he is. James finished 4/10 from the field. He had 9 pts. He logged 38 minutes. The one thing from James today was he was only 1/3 from the FT line.

The bottom line is this team is not that good. When not every single player on the team brings it..they can lose to anybody. Today Mike Young was about the only player to show up, at least stat wise. I thought Robinson and Jeter also brought it effort wise, but sometimes that isn't enough. Luther wasn't given a chance. And simply Artis was terrible as was the outside shooting. They also let Adam Smith shoot 5/7 from the outside and score 23 points. That was essentially the difference, as Smith was the only player in the whole game who made a 3 point shot..and he made 5 of them.

Young did not make a field goal after 17:48 of the second half. In fact, he only took 3 shots after this. Whose fault is this? Who couldn't figure out a way to get your only scorer the ball in the second half? This is all on Dixon.
Yep, good call BP. That was the first thing I was thinking when reading the OP and the props for Mike Young. Yeah, he was definitely a force the first half. But I new it was somewhere very early in the 2nd half he had his last points, you obviously looked up the precise time somewhere. I'm not an astute enough watcher to know if that was because of something different GTECH did or if that's all on us.

I did not see Pitt "let" Smith make those 3's. At least on the shots he made late in the game, Robinson was covering him closely. The kid just made some tough shots. In contrast, Pitt had open looks that were missed.

Something is going on with Artis. I don't know what it is, but something is wrong.

Look it up, a-hole. No FG's after 17:48 and only 3 attempts.

Not what he meant. He touched the ball almost every possession but continually gave it up or turned it over. Basically GT sold out and rotated the D to him every time that made him give it up. Maybe better plays get better results but they tried. The other guys didn't step up.

They forced him out of the post and he got his touches past the 3 point line and out of any range to do anything within his game - and Dixon should have countered rather than running his patented ball screen for Artis every time down. He never adjusted. That is my issue.

Anyone shaving points needs to be fired... Period...fired!!!!

Sure looked like it today, and a well known alum posted some of the players need to spend less time in the casino.
I know and the thread was deleted multiple times. UPitt89 also mentioned this for weeks now. It is very suspicious.

What in the hell happened today... I watched till 2nd.... Pitt had like 6 pt lead...?.... Then I check later after my rehearsal and they lost ???? WTF????

And like I said , he got lots of touches.
He didn't generate his looks like earlier, they didn't forget about him on offense...gt just stifled his looks .
Young had a good look late, when it was a one-possession game and quickly passed the ball away. He looked like a guy who didn't want to take the crucial shot. In fact, Robinson, Jones and Jeter were the only guys who looked willing to shoot the ball late, after Young's miss at 1:55. Artis didn't shoot after 3:25, with the game on the line.

Hey, maybe I'm looking at this the wrong way.Earlier in the season I was complaining Young and Artis were too selfish. But, when the seaon is on the line, I expect our two leading scorers to, you know, TRY to score more than once in the last 3 1/2 minutes.
