Is this the team we have for next season?

Well I agree ECU is suspect but he obviously really likes that staff a whole lot for some reason.
Not every kid is the same.
But I think it was smart not to go to Duke.

Any kid picking ECU over Duke and other high majors has major issues. I'm sorry. I mean, ok, he loves the staff. Its college basketball. That staff is very likely to be gone in the next few years and you are stuck at a directional glorified HS

Im not saying he doesn't have issues.
I don't think Duke is the right school for everyone.
And neither of us know anything about this kid and what his situation is.

Karim Coulibaly was an early offer and early take for this staff. He's a big.

If Pitt landed just one more big that they targeted; no one would have any issues with this class.

Here's the "problem". Capel and staff only got here 14 months ago so they were late to recruiting every player they targeted. Add in the recent on court results- the combination is a tough one to overcome. They definitely aimed high to start which makes landing players more difficult but I wouldn't want it any other way.

Lastly, this is a multi-year rebuild process. If they land Hugley and PG like Davis next year the rest will be gravy, imo.

I just don’t understand it. Can you guys seriously not just be reasonable? Missing on 16 bigs hasn’t been disappointing? I didn’t ask to have the best class, I think that the guy who everyone considered the best assistant coach recruiter in the country shouldn’t miss on his first 16 options at big with immediate time/ACC and everything else I’ve highlighted. That’s all. Sorry that’s too much to ask.

This isn’t hard. You can be a fan, have concerns and legit criticisms and try to have a discussion about it.

Or you can be a fan, wave Pom poms and make excuses and tell ppl they’re dumb or unreasonable for wanting results.

How long has Tom Crean been on the job?

If your talking about receiving an education then there’s very few places that you’d pick over Duke . If you want to play bb and actually see the court and nothing you’ve done up to this point suggest your a future NBA player you don’t go to Duke , Kentucky , Kansas etc . Why be a practice player ? Go somewhere you can play , where you’re a big man on campus with all the benefits that goes with it . The kids smart your not !

There are still a bunch of Grad Transfer guards/forwards that are available. Might as well pick up a couple, and then play small ball. Still need at least 1 more guy that can rebound and defend inside even if he is 6-6.
Where is the link?

Yup. Still quite a few bigs that are available. And then you have guys like Jordan Brown (Nevada) and Joel Ntambwe (UNLV) that might have a fighting chance at being immediately eligible since their coaches left.

Another name to keep in mind is Eric Hamilton, a 6'9 250 UNCG Grad transfer, he just entered his name in the transfer portal. Between UNCG and Wichita State, Hamilton has won 86 games (average of almost 29 wins per year). He averaged 6.1 ppg, 4.4, and shot 59% in 16 minutes for a very, very good UNCG team. They played LSU and Kentucky super, super tight... and they were a 1 seed in the NIT. I think he could merit 15-20 minutes a game.

He would be a body but that's it. Looking at his stats against the competition that he played we might as well just play George

I think he’s significantly better than George.

He’d be a good add, I think. Can probably play 10-12 or so minutes at the 5...combined with what I expect to be 23-25 or so minutes at the 5 from Brown, Hamilton would answer a lot of questions. Brown as the #1, Hamilton as the #2, and Coulibaly filling in the rest while giving 12-15 more minutes at the 4 would be huge for this team. Someone like Bilau or another grad transfer would only add to it, or lessen Coulibaly’s load at the 4.

Really Really SMDH. OK that's your case wow that is so weak but it's yours.
I know we need big men trust me but this guy would be a real reach. I think I would just take Josaphat B. and N.John and be just as happy.

He hurts nothing if we take him.
Nothing.
His scholarship is gone in a year.
And we'll still have 2 more to find other bigs.
Is this what we all are looking for? No.
But does he take away from something we are looking for? No.

Looking at it from that view I can expect that but I think I still would take the other 2 and add a 4 or 5* big next year if he can. In the end I think we both want the samething for Pitt

I just want us to get back to the point where we have a chance to win any game we play and make the Pete that place again that no one wants to come in and play us. I think JC can get us there again but it's going to take 3 to 4yrs so we have to have patience.

Are we actually recruiting this guy or is this just a Pitt fan suggestion as a possible recruit?

Doesn't have to be mulit-year unless the recruiting is just average and that's what it has been. The 14 month issue is just pure BS! Capel is selling Capel and not Pitt's past record. This year's class is disappointing. Nothing about this year's class which leads one to believe that next year's team will be much better than this year's team...whatever improvement there will be will derive from improvement in play by last year's freshmen. The lineup will be a big donut again!

Brown - Toney - Drumgoole - McGowens - Johnson

5/4 Coulibaly - 4/3 Champagnie - 2/1 Murphy

Deep Bench- George

Injured - Chukwuka

Open - 3

Where is the activity? Quinerly is unlikely to be eligible in 2019. No other visits even scheduled?

We had a visitor yesterday. 6-9 250 lbs

Yes, most of the improvement should come from X, Trey and Toney.
But from what I have seen- Drumgoole, Murphy, Coulibaly and Champangie are an improvement over Frame; N'dir, Ellison and Davis.

Eillison amd Davis were not acc players. Ndir could not shoot

Yea. I know all of that.... I don’t see next year’s team being much better. We still have several players who aren’t acc caliber players including the guy who looks like will start at C.

There is a risk signing Bilau or Nigel Johns. Neither is a guaranteed ACC-level player and either would tie up a scholarship for some years. Hamilton returns the scholarship to the pool immediately in 2020.

There is a need for a developmental big. The real question is if either of the unsigned guys fit into thar category?

IMHO, and it is only my assumption, the staff liked Bilau enough to have him visit immediately. I think the worry with him is qualifying. Johns is a different question. They have slow-played him but there are rumors a visit is now being set up.

If Hamilton commits here, then we will see if they actually sign one of the other bigs or leave the slot open. I believe they will keep one slot open in case someone unexpectedly falls into their lap, but they probably should sign one more guy either to back-up in the paint or at PG.

Here’s hoping you are absolutely right!

I think Hamiton eliminates John. I think we want Bilau, don't know if we can get him. I think we should find a grad transfer point similar to what we would be doing with Hamilton.

Accomplish all that recruiting becomes acceptable.

I can't argue that we shouldn't sign a grad transfer PG. We should. I just don't believe the staff intends to.

I don't think we'll get Bilau. If he really thinks he can possibly be a 1-and-done, he's not signing with a guard oriented team.

We could still sign John as a developmental big but they may consider Coulibaly in that role.
