I don't care what program you are talking about, do NOT tell me that ANY rebuild requires more than 4-5 years. I don't care that Pitt was 0-18. It should take Capel 4-5 years to get to the NCAAT. Period. Rutgers was a disgrace to the game of basketball. I watched Pitt beat them last year and posted after the game that I couldn't believe that in Year 4, Pikiell doesn't have much talent because I wasn't impressed with them at all (other than their lottery ticket C who they hit on). Yet Pikiell worked his magic and got that group to the NCAAT last year (if there was one) and they win a game this year.

Here's an interesting question for the board. How many P6 coaches in say, the last 20 years made an NCAAT after missing their first 5 at 1 school? I would think its not a long list. If it takes you more than 5 to make the NCAAT it aint gonna happen.

It’s easy to build a tournament resume with a bunch of wins when you’re in a league like the big ten.

Leonard Hamilton

That was 23 years ago and Hamilton took over a program that had only been D1 for 5 years....and they were minor D1 like NEC-level D1 as an Independent.

Any others which are more similar to Pitt? Capel inherited a program who had 2 #1 seeds in 3 years when recruits were in their middle school formative years

WTF are you taking about? Hamilton took over at FSU within your 20 year parameter and it took him more than 4-5 years to get FSU to the Big Dance.

Hamilton first made the NCAA tournament in his 8th year at Miami and his 7th year at Florida State.

So wherever he ends up next can expect to make the tournament in his 6th year there?

Yea he did it twice. Didn't realize it took him 7 years at FSU. WTF was he doing?

Anyway, I think you'll find very few coaches have done this.

Love how we all sit and watch the tournament year after year, not in it , and YET making constant excuses for the schmucks in charge from Chancellor to Coach! Sounds like we are in love sending all our money to the hot chick in Ghana , she will be here this Christmas just wait!

Pretty sure you were one of the ones ragging on this program half way thru year 3.

im also baffled that people defend this. I’m fine w being patient with Capel, but he’s clearly underperforming.

Was he grossley performing when they were 8 and 2? His problem is he let players who were clearly jealous and upset that Champagnie was getting all the press, that they brought the w

I was ragging on them after we beat them last year. I didn't think they were any good, still dont but Pikiell is a magician. They dont have more talent than we do. Just better coached.
My point is he took 5 years but Capel is supposed to have done it in 3.

the defense is a 10 game sample that included a loss to St Francis.

And Rutgers is upsetting hotshot Houston now.

Rutgers choked that game away. I was pulling for BK. Hopefully he gets a HC job at a small school.
