Its almost Thursday so figured I'd start this thread and comment on this Wednesday Col/Boise game to get it started. Colorado won a close, ugly game but the teams were pretty even on talent. I watched both last week and felt Colorado was better so I put $50 on Colorado to beat the 3.5 point spread and won. Not a big gambler but I had a free bet promo so I figured it would be smart to bet against the MWC as they are usually over-seeded.

After watching more MWC ball these last 2 weeks than any person ever should, I have come to the conclusion that its all coaching. The talent level on these teams isnt great. Not bad. Below average ACC talent. But these teams are very well coached. This Rice guy at Boise is quietly a really good coach. They run very good sets. Medved at Colorado State, Sprinkle at Utah St who replaced another good one in Ryan Odom. The ACC needs to look to this conference for coaches instead of hiring guys like Kenny Payne and Damon Stoudemire.

Talent-wise, Pitt is much better than these 2. The PG Simpson is good for Colorado. And I'd love to have the Center, Lampkin but I dont think anyone else contributes for us a great deal. For Boise, I like the SG Agbo and the announcers talked up their leading scorer Degenhart but I dont see it. His numbers are good so I'd probably take him.

This is now 12 out of 13 NCAAT losses for MWC teams not named SDSU.

I only watched one game of the 1st 4, Grambling vs. Montana State, 2OT, Grambling pulled it out, it was a really good game. They should get crushed by Purdue though, they're outside shooting isn't great, but for them last night was like the Super Bowl 1st ever NCAA win.

I made a few bets this morning at the casino. I took Illinois giving 11.5 points and I took Texas giving 2 points.

I made a bet for Friday also. I bet the under of the TCU game. The under is 150.5. I like Dixon to slowwwwwwww it down a tad. Final score 73-70 and I don’t care who wins

Great Buffalo Wild Wings commercial with the Buffalo boxing out.

Mossie and son Mossie are smiling 🙂 in heaven. Go Dukes!

Not Impressed with the NET #12 team so far

In the last 10 games of the regular season,

Duquense is

9-1 with a league championship title
Beat ranked Dayton
Has beaten 5 of the teams in their last 10 games by at least 10+ points
Has won 4 neutral games and 2 road games in their last 10 games
Has the #7 ranked defense in the entire country in efficiency over the course of the last 10 games of the season

And Duquense is completely shutting down BYU thus far.

Last 10 games matter much more than non conference schedule. Hope you guys have figured that out.

Let the board know who you are betting on before the results are known, it will give you more credibility.......

I put some live bets on Duquesne to win straight up. After watching BYU play, it was easy to see that Duquesne had the better team. BYU is a fraud. WCC team that won a bunch of Q1 games at home

I know nothing about them but someone on the radio last night said BYU just jacks up 3s. He thought the Dukes might be a decent bet because if BYU isn’t hitting they’d be in trouble.

But Pitt was only 7-3 in their last 10. They lost their only 2 games against teams that were solidly in the Tourney. UVA was another bubble team.

The real lesson here is stay off the bubble. Be better than a bubble team. Goal #1 is get your ass in the tourney. If the committee values the OOC schedule more than the last ten, then that's what's more important.

But I know what you are saying, and I don't disagree. Especially in the transfer/NIL era

You just dont seem to get it.

Pitt was ranked 15th in the entire country in efficiency the last 10 games of the season with the #12 ranked offense in the entire country. win / loss record is only part of it.

Virginia was ranked 115th.

Dont worry, this is far from over in terms of the "hot" teams at the end of the season staying hot in the tournament while the early non conference schedule champions flounder.

Within the next 5 years is my estimate, last 10 games will be used to determine NCAA tournament seeding again like it once was.

If Rick Pitino gets his wish and actual former retired coaches and players are put on the committee to help instead of all computer nerds, it will be much sooner.

When you start 10-7/1-5, constructing an NCAA resume from scratch is almost impossible when your remaining games away from home include Duke, UVA, NC State, Wake (2), UNC and Clemson. Even getting to the bubble was quite a feat. BYU started 12-1 and then coasted home.

Yep. Even if things went better and Pitt found their way in, it would be unlikely that they would even survive this weekend having to win another play in, beat another 6 and probably a 3. Of course, that doesn’t make me feel any better knowing they would at least be in and have a shot, plus who knows…

Anyway, happy to see Duquesne doing well. That happiness turns to frustration though when I see d bags on Twitter using Duquesne’s run to try to discredit and trash Pitt.

Jaxson Robinson is completely on fire. He is taking over and the only guy on BYU doing anything.

Dukes need to find a little offense here.

Goodnight BYU

You just got shut down by the #7 defense in the country the last 10 games of the season.

Nice job Dukes. Upset number 1 is in the books, and there will be plenty more.

Duquesne's offense can be painful to watch, but what a win. Illinois is a pretty tough matchup in the second round, but I don't think many people thought Duquesne would be one of the last 32 standing.

They made those free throws in the last two minutes. I believe 6 free throws and that was a tremendous pressure situation. Good for Duquesne

In a 64 team team tournament, I imagine we'll see a little bit of everything.

I said I generally agree with you. But if the selection committee (i.e. the committee actually selecting the teams in the field) says the OOC schedule carries more weight, then that's the way it is, like it or not.

TCU led the nation in fastbreak scores. Hard to believe.

Predictably, a certain local bloviator decided to use the Duquesne win to go off bashing Pitt. As if he could name a single player on their team, even now let alone before this past weekend. Yawn.

My bitterness is gone, this is great. Love March
I'm the complete opposite way. I have no interest whatsoever in watching the tournament if Pitt's not playing.

NGL, I totally forget it was happening til I saw this thread.

Not really, JD has really changed his style of play the past few seasons. Miller for TCU is an NBA talent.
So maybe Dixon would have changed a bit here....if the idiots hadn't run him off with Barnes little $$$ trick??

Chubbs just hopped on the Duquesne bandwagon. Which promptly broke an axle.

Nice explosion by Illinois to cover the 11.5 point spread. I’m up $50. Go Texas.

Oregon on the cusp of moving on as they push the lead to 15 deep into the 2nd half.

How are the Ducks doing it, are they lucky or whats going on here?

The Ducks are the Pac-12 Champions and have won 7 of their last 10 basketball games finishing the season quite strong.

However,

like the Dukes above them in this thread, The Ducks just like Dukes have cranked up the defense at the end of the season. How much so? For the entire body of work, Oregon's defense was ranked 193rd for the entire season. For the last 10 games of the year, Oregon's defense was ranked 51st in the country., a remarkable jump of 150 places in the efficiency rankings.

South Carolina found out the hard way as they got the clamps put on them by Dana Altman's his red hot ducks.

Like BYU, goodnight South Carolina.

So to recap, a team that won 68% of their games this season won 70% of them over their last ten games, thus showing that they finished the season much better than they started it.

Or just play better on defense to win league championships and ncaa tournament games, ;)
