Its finally over

You apparently lack reading comprehension. I said Pitt boosters are not willing to fund high level football & the program will continue in mediocrity regardless of coach.

I comprehend just fine. It's as if you think there are only two choices, compete for a national championship or be mediocre. Pitt can absolutely be better than they have been without being good enough to be a national championship contender. One of the reasons why they aren't is because we employ a sub-mediocre head coach.

Do you really think that there is no coach that Pitt could bring in who would do better than Narduzzi?

And if you really do think that, why are you here?

In today's landscape, there are two types of programs. Those that have the potential to contend for a national championship at some point in time, and those that are irrelevant. Pitt, as a program, is irrelevant in today's game. That's just reality.

I don't think there is any coach that Pitt could bring in that could really do significantly better than Narduzzi. The last 40 years say that there is little chance of Pitt bringing in a coach that would do better. If they do, it's hard to see them doing significantly better. If they can't actually compete for a national championship, it really doesn't matter.

Why not hire the coach of W&J then for 100K/year if it doesn't matter? Then we will have more to spend on basketball, where the coach matters a great deal?

Then once again, why are you here?

Because Pitt football is still fun and entertaining. I just want them to be reasonably competitive and hope they win more than they lose.

I probably get more enjoyment from the sport with that attitude than say a Clemson fan, whose program couldn't be more irrelevant in the current environment but doesn't know it yet.

We haven't even had a top 10 class since the online recruiting services became a thing. Why should I have high expectations?

He isn’t getting drafted in the 1st round and if he does go in the 2nd round it isn’t guaranteed money.
Yes, I don't see him doing well there, does not shoot well enough, takes the ball to the hoop well vs taller college players but these are not NBA quality players...big difference, but I am not very NBA knowledgeable so who knows.

I also know nothing about the NBA, so I guess it's possible someone could take him as a project. I'd be shocked if he was a guy who got significant minutes any time soon. Get physical with him, take away one side, etc. And the guy he was watching would go for 40 each night. I just don't see it. And, as you mentioned, he struggles with shooting. I actually like his mid-range stroke, but that isn't how the game is played anymore, and he seems to struggle from three.

I referee hoops. There are 6th grade travel coaches that run more and better stuff than Capel. I’m serious.

He isnt going to go to the NBA after this year. He will make more money in the SEC than a 2nd Round NBA Draft pick. And the SEC money is more-less guaranteed. There's no guarantee he makes an NBA roster. It's possible that he can but just as possible he gets a 2-way deal. Might as well take the SEC money and improve your game.

If I were him, I'd bank two years worth of SEC money and start brushing up on which league I want to play in overseas.

He’s not a freak athlete, he can only go to his left and is not a great shooter. Not sure why anyone thinks he’d even get drafted let alone stick in the NBA

And for that matter he’s not banking big money from a Sec school. There are lots of other guards who are not as limited as he is they can spend money on. Lowe has shown he’s NOT a difference maker

This was our most frustrating team, partially because I did get my hopes up and I actually like many of these players. If Lowe was a good three point shooter, it's likely a tournament team with the volume he shot for whatever reasons.

2022 was the worst Capel year to me though. 11-21, criminal issues, too many players that just didn't pan out. Not really a likable team at all.

I give a little bit of grace to the 2021-22 team. They did the whole locker room reset and sided with Champagnie over X and Toney after their whole feud, which was probably the decision that was aligned with the facts. Then Champ leaves late for the draft (and I think probably stays if we had NIL and the collectives up and running). Then Horton had his legal issue and you lose the guy who shot 39% from three for you the year before for most of the season. That happens the night before the exhibition game, only to have Sibande tear his ACL in that exhibition. So a roster that had a bunch of back-of-bench high character guys that weren’t going to fight each other all of a sudden has those guys elevated to legitimate roles, and it obviously resulted in a ton of losses.

Plus, the ran the thing through Hugley, which was never going to lead to a lot of wins. A rotation that’s Burton, Horton, Champ, Gueye, Hugley is probably fine with Sibande, Femi, and whoever else coming off the bench. That’s not a bad group on paper, but really encountered a bunch of really bad breaks.
