against B.Williams.

We have more talent than Vir.Tech, our coach just does not know how to utilize it.

Nonsense. Simply missed open looks all night long.

There was a hangover from the Duke game, we lost every 50/50 ball and the officiating was horrible.

But - we did not run our offense or adjust to what they were doing on defense, We needed patience and needed to dominate inside and pound the boards - Vir Tech has very little inside game - instead, we jacked up and missed threes.

You do realize if pitt even shoots 33% from three we probably win by a decent margin.

When Pitt closed the game near the end, how did we do it? I do not think we did it by draining threes. I think we began to draw fouls. It was a very foul laden game.

I agree that we should have gone inside more. But this would have been a comfortable win with even below average shooting.

From the 9 minute mark of the first half, until 4 minutes left in the game..... VT outscored Pitt 53-31. Over those 25 minutes... if we defended at ALL, we win...even with a poor shooting day.

When it was 19-10, we needed to step on their throats. Instead, we didn't score for 7 minutes.

OP is what makes this board so frustrating. Nothing in it has any base in fact. JD is now 4-5 against Buzz and by 20 earlier this year.

I believe I posted in thread last week that Young, Jeter and Artis should never, ever be on the floor at the same time.

,Artis was 1 For 8 and Robinson was 2 for10! Was that Jamie's fault.? 3 for 20 from 3 pt.

Those Artis shots were the most part - contested. He took contested 3's and missed them. VT played great defense on him. Give them credit. That said... Artis is still not a level of player to take advantage of tight defense in other ways.

Ya to be up 19-10 and looking like you were going to run away with this game then just completely piss it away is absolutely sickening.

Do you have any idea of what Vir.Tech's talent level has been during this series of Jamie versus Buzz?

The lineups we were using, and substitution patterns in the 1st half were terrible. We have a good thing going, and JD took the foot off the gas pedal. We had a chance to get a big lead, but then guys like Smith, Wilson, and ANO start getting more mins. Stick to what worked.

Also includes some pretty good Marquette teams. Yes the same VT that is over .500 in the ACC. You guys act like they are the worst team in the country. They are a very respectable team, especially at home.

Virginia Tech had only 10 points more than halfway through the first half. And we only had 19. That's your ballgame. Should have been 26-10 and the game should have been ended right there but we couldnt score to extend the lead.

We have won at home 90-71 and 62-57 - We have lost at Vir.Tech 65-61 and 70-67.

Buzz has turned his roster over twice during that 3 year period - The rest of the ACC have handled Vir.Tech much better than we have.

Why? What was the main reason behind our scoring draught?

You mean a UVA team who lost to VT and UNC who came back to win by 5. or the other 8 games that they won in the ACC this year.

I sad 4-5 which is the history between Buzz and JD. The OP implied JD didn't know how to coach against Buzz which would mean somesort of domination.

Buzz plays small and Jamie feels he needs to follow suit. What results is we lose our structure, rebounding and inside play advantage. We start to play helter skelter and one on one (how many assists did we have?). That is Tech's style, not ours, They are an open floor team we are not. Why play into their hands?

I can't say this is true. Dixon played his lineup pretty much the same as he has against every other team.

I think you are dead on SMF. That was our chance to build a good lead and our failure to make shots at that point(in fact at times we couldn't even hit the rim) gave them time to get back in it. If we get them down 15 or so we might be able to cruse the rest of the way. I can at least defend our first half effort, but the second half was a disaster. We must have burnt every ounce of energy in that emotional game Sunday.

I will give us a break on this one, but we better be there and ready on Saturday. I can't help thinking that if any of the tourney committee members watched this game tonight, unless they were cockeyed, we failed the eye test badly. Fortunately, they use your entire body of work and not just one game. Funny, after Sunday's Duke game I was hoping they would use only that one game!

Oh well, being a Pitt Basketball fan is not easy. I think I might need to start taking my Prozac again.

All these Dixon apologists.

Against Duke we witnessed how good these kids can be. Then this. It's on the coach.

Well we now have heard from the vagina. Finally all the usually suspects are here after a loss. So predictable. Nowhere to be found Sunday though. Really really sad.

Maia played 8 Minutes. I think we would have been better had he played more. C.Jones played 18 minutes. I think we would have been better had he played more. Jamie tried to inject scoring at the cost of defense, structure and experience. It did not work. It just made the defense worse.

Jamie is good against most coaches, but poor against some. Over the last 3 years we have had better talent than Tech. Our play has hardly demonstrated that.

Chris shot two threes that weren't even anywhere close on a team that needed someone who could hit something. And we needed offense and Maia isn't going to deliver it.

I believe it is possible to contribute on offense without you being the player putting the ball through the basket. A good screen can free someone else for an open look. Sealing off the lane can create a clear path to the basket for a teammate driving to the hoop.Blocking out on a missed shot., might allow a teammate a chance at an easy put back.

I have seen Maia provide these services on several occasion. To say Maia is no help to the offense is clearly wrong in my opinion. In addition to that, we are infinitely better on defense with the way he hedges, patrols the lane, boxes out and rebounds.

Jones missed his 2 threes. He finished 2 of 4 shooting. I have seen Cam Johnson and James Robinson miss shots as badly as Chris did. Chris has made shots too. I do not believe that two bad misses merit a hook, especially when I do not believe that Cam Johnson is ready to play at this level.

Stat lines are not the total story.

Given the TV situation and the other games that were on at the time, I'm pretty sure most of the committee will only see the box score and didn't see the actual game.

Would you agree that over the last 3 seasons we have had greater talent than Vir.Tech and that our play against them has not accurately reflected that talent gap?

Jones has been one of our better defenders of late. Was surprised to see him out for so long. I thought that i missed some fouls on him or that maybe he was hurt or sick.

That is what I said after I read Buzz's post game quote

" We are size deficient. Even when they were playing small, they played small to try to match us. That would be the major thing that I would say.”

Yes it was!
He's the head coach responsiblee for recruiting and player development. He's wiffed on recruiting over the past few years. Good solid players wouldnt have put up those numbers.

Trust me, nobody from the Committee watched that game. Only the hardest of the hard core VaTech and Pitt fans watched it on their computer. Be sure, if anyone had attempted to watch it from the Committee, it was unwatchable--and they would have given up within minutes. Hail to Pitt!
