Duh, yeah, I've been saying that for two weeks, while everyone else has been whining about all the stupid false rumors floating around.
Ya if they got Mark Schmidt who apparently was a finalist then everything would have been scrutinized
But he was a finalist based on speculation only. I am sure they talked with him just like they talked with numerous people but that doesn't mean he was a finalist.
He was the one or two choices though that would have literally had me stop following Pitt hoops.

Just five days between Hurley going to UCONN and Pitt landing Capel. Lyke did a great job.

Capel is responsible for the last 5 classes at Duke plus the class coming in that has the top 3 players. He also recruited Blake Griffin at Oklahoma.

He banged heads with top recruiters from the blue bloods. There still is some tough recruiting to do at these upper echelon schools.

I am not sure if this was a serious statement or not but in my opinion he was obviously near the top. They clearly wanted Hurley first but them getting this deal done so quickly after Duke losing shows me they targeted him and made it happen.
But these other names that were floated out there like Schmidt... frankly, I don't think they were ever serious candidates. They might have gotten an interview as Pitt kicked the tires on many candidates but it is apparent at least to me that the leaks on some of these names were done so by the agents of those candidates to get their guys raises.
Based on this and her other hires it appears Lyke's MO is to talk to lots of candidates and then go after the one she wants the most hard.

It was a concern when Men’s sports are the main money makers for a University.
