Jeff Capel on Jason Capel, UNC:

This is a whole big bunch of nothing that the National Media is writing stories on. No sane person actually cares about the Capels' vs. UNC. Everyone else has already moved on.

A former coworker that is a graduate of UNC sent me this article from 2001 and explained: The diehards blame Capel for pushing out Joe Forte, their best player from the Final Four Run. Forte ends up surprisingly leaving for the NBA Draft. That is where a lot of the hostility comes from the UNC Fan Base.

It was one of the main headlines on ESPN.com yesterday. SI. That conservative weirdo’s sports site. Barstool. Basically every national media outlet.

Correct, it’s gone today. So is our score, which was overshadowed by a temper tantrum nationally. Lame
So a 12 hour story
Let’s all pull our hair out over nothing
Listen boss
You don’t like Jason and that’s fine
But let’s not make mountains out of molehills
We won 3 straight in chapel hill
I don’t care how they skin the cat so long as they win

Correct
I moved to chapel hill in 2002
They were apoplectic during the Doherty years

It was fun since it was during the Pitt heydays

I threatened to punch a Tarheel fan in the neck for cheering for Marquette at the old Four Corners bar - during the pitt vs Dwayne Wade game .
Turns out he was just that great

This should be way way way beneath any coach to even address.

Capel bros live in their past.
Grow da fuc up
For a competitive athlete, especially basketball, you talk trash and your opponents are constantly in your ear. The opposing crowd can be ruthless. Rumeal Robsinson who played in the late 80’s for U of M had to play against every opposing team with the crowd holding up signs saying Prop 48 to say he was too dumb. Crowds talk crap all the time to players. And we are talking about 19 and 20 year old kids. How many of them throw tantrums and yell at the crowds?

A guy in his 40’s who isn’t even a player anymore. In fact not even recently has to be very insecure to not be able to deal with some Twitter post about him or the crowd saying things. I feel bad for Jason in that he can’t emotionally handle that. It reflects more on his maturity than the people saying stuff about him.

I agree with you. Jason was good but not one of their better players they have had in their history. Who the hell cares. That was 22 years ago. Let it go and don’t let it bother you.

I don't know about any of this Jason Capel stuff. All I know is that I put up a balloon that had HAIL TO PITT in blue and gold letters on the side. It was shot down by a jet fighter today. What the heck was that about?

Trying to scope out possible Pitt NCAA tournament sites?

I am certainly not going to strain myself defending Jason Capel, but I also feel no obligation to defend UNC. It seems like they could have handled things better with him. If Pitt had a feud with some former player, I would hope Pitt could keep it out of the headlines.
Ding ding ding

Wheeling’s only an hour away for crissakes.

Wheeling was all set to host May Madness. Awful decision to play it in March. You would think the NCAA would throw them a bone and let them host the 1st 2 Rounds. Its practically a tourist destination now with the casino, that outdoor store, and that Merder's store or whatever its called.

I am in 100% agreement with this statement. I would go as far as saying Pitt would not feud with anyone on a personal basis, and as you noted certainly not in public. The problem is when people are hired outside the organization who have no interest in living up to that kind of standard. Are those who value Pitt's standards to feel any obligation to tolerate such non-professional behavior? I think not.
