Scores 32 tonight for BC on 8-16 from the field and 12-13 from the line. BC is down 7 with 1:02 left when he makes five foul shots on one possession (fouled shooting a three and Virginia Tech gets called for a technical). After a VT miss he gets fouled again and makes both to tie the game.

But then he misses an open three for the win at the buzzer and misses the only shot he attempts in overtime (he did make some foul shots), so obviously not clutch, right?

If this is referring to all the Cam bashing, it's this simple:

Cam is a phenomonal role player in a great system with a great coach. He's NOT necessarily the guy you completely trust with the ball in his hands at the end of a close game, it's just not him. He doesn't have that alpha mentality and that's fine.

He actually might be BETTER suited for the NBA than the college game, because he can just execute his role and have a long career if he does that.

But you simply can't deny, he's just not like any of those "alpha" types. The LeVances, Brandon Knight, Sam Youngs.

Even Artis and Young, they were guys that were comfortable doing it own their own even to the point of being selfish, but they still had that confidence about themselves.

Cam just isn't that type of player, and that doesn't mean he sucks.

Likewise, some players can excel on bad teams while others need great players around them to look better, and that's why Cam made a great decision for himself.

Everybody says he didn't get the touches he needed last year, but that simply is because he at times disappeared, and wasn't comfortable "making a play".

On this year's Pitt team, he might have been exposed and looked somewhat overmatched as the team's "star". At UNC, he can be quiet for a couple games, score 32 the next, and be fine through it all because there's other guys to pick up his slack.

Lastly, I hate the notion that you HAVE to support him, or anyone that leaves Pitt.

I get why those of you do, and I respect and support that.

At the same time, we are PITT fans. He left the hometown program when it needed him most, as a fan, why would we support that? I mean, I would make the same decision as him in his shoes. But I'm not in his shoes, I'm a Pitt fan. So I want to see him fail athletically because he's not on my team anymore.

Maybe because it's more complicated than that? I can support PITT and at the same time not actively root against a former player. Slippery slope for sure, but I just have a hard time rooting for any kid to fail. Especially someone who graduated with a PITT degree.

Read one paragraph above the one you quoted.

I completely agree with you and that's fine to cheer for him and wish him success.

I just don't like the BASHING of others when they state the opposite. It's okay to want to see someone who left Pitt fail, because we're Pitt fans at the end of the day. Now if you HATE the kid personally or tweet at him or something, that's too far and you're messed up. But watching a UNC game and hoping to see him not do well or to miss a big shot is completely natural as a fan.

I think it is one thing to say I don't support him, he is now on another team so i would root for him. it is another to express vitriol and act as if he murdered the family pet, and it is also uninformed to say that he sucks, that he has zero chance of playing at the next level, etc. Which is what has been expressed a lot on this board (replying to you but not suggesting you said any of those things). Cam is good, he is not great, but he is 6'7" with long arms and a good shot, he will get looks at the next level, and I can state as fact that there are scouts that think he has a shot to get drafted.

I get were you're coming from somewhat, but in this instance I have a hard time wishing ill on Cam. And that is the origin of all this discussion. Right?

Kobe Bryant is one of the hand full of "most alpha male " players in the history of the NBA. He was voted by his peers as the most clutch player in the game something like 7 or 8 times when ESPN polled them. In his career he shot just over 30% on shots at the end of a game with a chance to tie or win the game for his team.

Even the best players miss shots like that far more often than they make them. The notion that a guy missed a shot or two in overtime of a game that only went to overtime because he made two foul shots with 4 seconds left proves that he's not a clutch player is just as absurd as if someone argued that Kobe Bryant wasn't a clutch player because he missed those kinds a shots far more than he made them.

It's childish and petty to want to see any kids fail in college, no matter where they go. This Cam bashing is over the top now. It's fine to be a Pitt fan and root against UNC if that gets your rocks off. But to root against Cam just because you think he bailed on Pitt???? That's not only childish, it's also just plain stupid. Get a life.

Cam has more support because he left Stallings. If he left Dixon there would be more malevolence toward him.
I'm making some assumption based on history but if he left Dixon then he would be leaving a) the coach who recruited, b) a team that is competitively fighting to be in the NCAA tournament (based on history) and c) a team that returned players he knew and played with
Those kind of departures are tougher to take. The Josh Newkirk departure for instance was tough, he had a clear place on the team going forward and we were Indiana's equal if not better, so did Khem Birch and we were a better school than UNLV

See, this argument to me is where I just completely disagree.

Rooting against a player who left your team is the definition of being a fan of a team. Did Cavs fans cheer for LeBron when he went to Miami?

Now, I agree if you for some reason like hold a personal grudge against Cam, and just hate him, that's kinda weird. But wanting to see him not do well in sports is perfectly natural.
