Any updates? I could not find one and we have a game Thursday so I guess he will miss that one

Trubisky is really really bad. I know the Pittsburgh love for the backup QB, but wow, I dont think many fans out there would say Kenny isnt by far the best QB on the roster
But you know stache, Trubisky was serviceable when he was with other teams. Now he's terrible... Why? Even Landry Jones was better. I think there are other factors involved too...

1. OL is terrible. Need a new OL coach. Pay Munchak whatever he wants and bring him back.

2. The offensive game plan and play calling is awful. All I know is we have watched Roethlisberger, Tribisky and Pickett under this coordinator and they all looked bad.

3. The WR's can't seem to get space between them and the DB's. How many times have we watched Pickett or Trubisky thread the needle throwing into tight coverage?

Pickett is the best on the roster, but he's not a franchise QB. There are very few of those. He can be good if he has the right tools around him, much like Purdy.

As a follow up, here is a list of the best WR corps in the NFL going into 2023. Is Burrow a star because he has Joe Mixon, Chase, Boyd, Higgins? He was nothing until he transferred to LSU with a ton of talent. Something to consider...

1. CINCINNATI BENGALS – QB Joe Burrow
Over the last two years, this wide receiving corps ranks third in receiving grade (85.8), sixth in receiving touchdowns (70) and third in receiving yards (9,434).

Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd make the best receiver trio in the league, while Irv Smith Jr. and Joe Mixon give QB Joe Burrow pass-catching options beyond wide receiver.

2. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES – QB Jalen Hurt

3. MIAMI DOLPHINS – QB Tua Tagovailoa

4. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS – QB Brock Purdy
There are so many receiving weapons to choose from in the Niners offense. They have Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk at the receiver positions, George Kittle at tight end and now Christian McCaffrey

5. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS – QB Geno Smith
I mentioned the Bengals having the best receiver trio in the league, but Seattle might not be far behind. D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett combined for 190 catches for 2,256 receiving yards a season ago, with both players grading above 77.0. Now, they’ll add first-round receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who recorded a 92.1 receiving grade and exceeded 1,600 receiving yards as just a true sophomore at Ohio State in 2022.

6. DALLAS COWBOYS – QB Dak Prescott

7. MINNESOTA VIKINGS – QB Kirk Cousins

8. LAS VEGAS RAIDERS – QB Jimmy Garoppolo

9. BUFFALO BILLS – QB Josh Allen

10. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS – QB Baker Mayfield

11. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS – QB Patrick Mahomes

12. LOS ANGELES CHARGERS – QB Justin Hebert

13. CHICAGO BEARS – QB Justin Fields

14. LOS ANGELES RAMS – QB Matthew Stafford

15. BALTIMORE RAVENS – QB Lamar Jackson

16. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS – QB Trevor Lawrence

17. DENVER BRONCOS – QB Russell Wilson

18. PITTSBURGH STEELERS – QB Kenny Pickett

19. WASHINGTON COMMANDERS – QB Sam Howell

20. NEW YORK JETS – QB Zach Wilson

21. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS – QB Derek Carr

22. CLEVELAND BROWNS – QB Deshaun Watson

23. DETROIT LIONS – QB Jared Goff

24. ATLANTA FALCONS – QB Desmond Ridder

25. NEW YORK GIANTS – QB Tommy DeVito / Daniel Jones

26. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS – QB Gardner Minshew

27. GREEN BAY PACKERS – QB Jordan Love

28. ARIZONA CARDINALS – QB Kyler Murray

29. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS – QB Mac Jones

30. TENNESSEE TITANS – QB Tannehill/Willis/Levis

31. CAROLINA PANTHERS – QB Bryce Young

32. HOUSTON TEXANS – QB C.J. Stroud

I feel like we all forget KP8’s college career. He wasn’t gangbusters until his last year and took several years to develop into that guy.

The biggest mistake the Steelers made was taking Trubisky to replace Ben. He has never been that consistent guy. So, Kenny, in my opinion, should have had a few years to learn behind a starter. But, Mitch was bad and Kenny got put in before he was ready. And, obviously, Tomlin knows Kenny is better than Mitch. You can just see that based on yesterday’s game. But Kenny got tossed into the deep end and needed more seasoning.

if KP is out, i really really hope we give Rudolph a shot..

on an unrelated note, that missed throw by Kenny to dionte on the 5 yard line was absolutely amateur, awful, pathetic. i know we all love Kenny but throws like that in the nfl CANT Happen..

I don't know... rookie quarterbacks are playing more now than ever before. And he was a 24-year-old rookie to boot. He's the same age as Hurts, who is in his fourth NFL season and has played at an MVP level.

Like that throw to DJ in the end zone yesterday and the one to Pickens which also might have been a touchdown... those are high school throws. When a guy doesn't have gaudy tangibles, consistency needs to be what he brings to the table. Pickett has been anything but that.

I'll see people say, "Even Mahomes misses easy throws sometimes." Yes, okay... but guys like that are also making unbelievable plays and putting up 37 points when they need to. When you're scoring 17 points/game and every single week it feels like trying to draw water from a stone - yes, every play is going to be heavily scrutinized.

To answer your question, Tomlin’s presser today indicated that Kenny will be the starter, provided he looks good and feels good with his practice reps on Wednesday. If the game were Sunday, I think it would be a slam dunk for him to start. But short week is dependent on how Kenny feels. There’s no structural damage according to the HC.

Doesn’t appear anyone wants Mitch to play. And some want Mason…but only if Kenny can’t go.

Poor DJ can’t buy a TD. Lol. If he’s the primary receiver on that play it’s a TD.

We thought Kenny was beyond his years with his pre snap reads. At least that was the discussion some of us were having 1.5 years ago. But that’s not the case at all. He needs to get back in the film room with Payton. Playing for Canada puts me in mind of a child who goes to school and has a crazy and incompetent teacher deconstruct what he learns at home.

Watching it on that video it looks like he wasn't the primary receiver. Live, I thought Pickett was just looking that S (or LB or whatever he is) off.

As for Trubisky - he tried fitting one between four guys like he thought he was throwing an invincible star from Mario Kart or something... but when he needed to push the ball downfield he refused to throw any farther than the average person can chuck a medicine ball. Very odd day for Mitch. He would be my choice C as of now. Pickett is clearly the best of the three, but the flaws he has are just not ones I expected.

Probably more wishful thinking of their drunken idiot talking speds.
They spent the morning talking about 4th quarter Kenny would have won the game yesterday. They spent the back half of the morning talking about Kenny giving them the best chance of winning on Thursday.

Too bad Dobbs was let go. Seriously, with that terrible OL, somebody mobile would be the better bet. I’ve watched a bit of the Cardinals and he isn’t good, not by a long shot but he can make plays with his legs when things collapse, which they frequently do with the Steelers OL, and neither Mitch, Chris Hoke’s paramour Rudolph and Pickett (not any longer, anyway) can’t do.

For Pickett’s own sake I almost hope his ribs are too bad for him to play for awhile … go with one of the other two duds, either one, it doesn’t matter, for a few weeks until that OL finally comes together a little bit. That line is incredibly disappointing, it’s still terrible, might actually even be getting worse.

If Mitch or Rudolph put it together then stay with the hot hand. If it lasts the rest of the season, look to move Pickett out for the best draft picks you can get. I’ve said from the start that this was a bad, bad situation for Pitt-first Steelers fans. The team, the coaches, the ownership have gone to hades. He had no chance here. Anywhere, really. He’s destiny seems a career backup, 7 years or so holding a clipboard (or is it the Microsoft thing now?). Which actually is a very sweet gig. But I don’t want it to be here.

In watching the video, DJ was clearly the 4th choice on that play. KP went through the progressions fairly quickly (to the three WO's on the right side) but when he looked at Dionte the play was essentially over

He's been so under the microscopic that I don't even know what I'm watching anymore. I'll see him make what I think is a great pass, but then I'll see PJ Walker or some other backup make one as good or better. And then the whole city is all over him when he misses an easy pass, but I'll see Josh Allen miss something similar.

At the end of the day, I can only go by the stats and the scoreboard. I totally get that the line sucks, the coordinator sucks, the receivers often suck, etc. But I do wonder if opposing defenses are able to do things against us that they wouldn't do against a QB with better tangibles who commanded more respect. Not too sure. I'm not writing him off for good, but I do see numerous plays to be made that he isn't making. I just feel like you need to do almost everything right when you're already not incredibly gifted in the speed or arm strength departments (he's merely adequate in both). I mean, this is why the NFL is so interested in these physical attributes: It's not always about what you've done but what you can do.

This just wasn’t the ideal team and time for Pickett, or really any QB like him. Yes, we DID see him for several seasons. And we know. He only blossomed in a season when he himself had gained significant experience; he had OC that held his hand every play; he had a veteran, effective OL; literally the top WR1 (Addison); a good to excellent WR2 (Wayne), a decent TE to check down to (Krull) and an emerging back in Izzy.

He’s now on an NFL team with: an idiot OC; he’s facing far better defenses; with perhaps the worst OL in the league, no tight ends at all (at present); 2 head case diva WRs, a fast but not much else WR3; and I’ll say it once more, perhaps the worst OL in the league.

He’s good, sometimes really good, when he has good to great players all around him, and when he has an OC who is a Kenny Whisperer. He has none of those things now. These things don’t look to need immediately improving either.

The organization is led by an out of touch ninny who wishes it was 1976 again, and an emperor with no clothes, so nothing ever seems to change. Yet we’re in a town where even the ‘experts’ don’t see anything but da guy wit da ball n’at, so that’s who they blame. Da QB stinks!!!! Plus the Pitt factor, which adds more skepticism and dislike. Other than Pitt fans, nobody likes Kenny for having played at Pitt; most are actually inclined to hate him. That’s a tough crowd.

It’s going to get to a point that Pickett will be like Tommy Maddox, where angry fans will find where he lives and come and throw garbage on his lawn.

Over? He was still wide open.
lol, you think? go to the 6-7 second mark and pause it. Kenny looking right at DJ, no defender within 4 yards, it's a 13 yard throw.

Pickett F'd up guys, i know he's a pitt guy and we cant say that on here but he did. and he underthrew pickens later in the first quarter. he's 20 games in and we are still seeing on a weekly basis, terrible terrible throws..

I'm not making an excuse for the missed pass, or for Kenny. It wasn't good. At the time KP looked at DJ, the "protection clock" had pretty much run out. That's NOT an excuse; it's a fact.

Here's the deal: bad pass; bad decision to have the primary choice be one of the three WO's on the right side instead of DJ.

But that's what makes OUR job as Monday morning "armchair quarterbacks" so simple. We get to judge by the replays; not be an actual participant in real time.

Like Zelda's said, if you pause it at the 6 second mark (probably more like 6.75, really), you'll see Pickett under no duress looking right at Johnson. It doesn't matter who the primary target was or how much time had elapsed in the play at that point. He is looking right at him, and it's a throw most people on this board could make.

If there is ANY excuse to be made, it's that maybe he thought DJ was going to modify his route and sit it down earlier or something. But it certainly has nothing to do with any of the above.

I'm not going to get into a pissing contest with you and Werewolf. You both talk about the play lasting 6-1/2 to 7 seconds. Wrong. Watch the video again and look at the game clock. The ball is hiked at or about 4:05. Pickett threw the pass toward DJ @ 4:02. 3 seconds. Not 6.75. Again, not an excuse but just a correction of the time he used to try to complete the pass

Jesus, dude... it's the 6-second mark in the video. The ball was snapped at the 4-second mark in the video. Who is arguing that the play lasted six seconds? We're not trying to determine how long he stayed on the bull.

Pickett was looking the safety off. He was too late to get back to DJ though. I'm also not sure if he was expecting Johnson to sit in the spot instead of running towards the middle.

If it were obvious to me that you were talking about the video and not the actual time it took to run the play I wouldn't have questioned it.

Question for you, "dude":

As a former QB (I am making an assumption here, as I figure you must know from experience), how many passes in the red zone have you made in under 3 seconds and after going through three progressions?

Ah, $hit ... I am involved in a pissing contest after all ...

I'm not sure that's right. He can write off the 3 guys to the right pretty quickly based on coverage. He keeps his head looking right to keep the safety away from Johnsons route. He was a half second late here.

Depends what qualifies as the red zone. If the 20% portion of the horizontal baseball outfield nearest to the foul line being used to designate the goal line counts, then many. Otherwise, few.

... But I'd have still hit that pass.

The problem is that he missed the throw. I will concede that. People are throwing Kenny under the bus for 28 minutes of football yesterday after saying last Monday that he was looking better. And they point to this one play in the end zone as exhibit A as to why he sucks again. But for me, it’s one play. Even if you blame him entirely, it’s not half as bad as the one the prodigy QB made for the INT when the Jags were in the red zone earlier. QBs miss throws. QBs miss reads. The good ones do it in every game. I hate that every single time Pickett does it, it goes under a microscope. He has every single thing working against him in this offense. Can someone name one thing he has going for him? Just one. Please name it. Sheesh.

I guess it all boils down to this: the Steelers lost the game. Had it gone a different way would their QB have been equally criticized for throwing a pick in the red zone a few minutes earlier? Probably. It's what fans do. Got to blame it on somebody; the Coaches, players, refs, et al.

Additionally, we Pittsburgh fans have had to deal with an overtly critical gang of reporters who almost relish in the moments where the city's teams and/or players fail

Nothing and no one's perfect

Chairman, come on. he was looking right at him, perfect pocket, no defender within 4 yards, 13 yard pass..

we can be a tiny bit critical of pickett, you wont lose your pitt fandom card, i promise..

no one is asking him to be perfect, just make a simple throw when given the opportunity. obviously we dont get many of these.. watch his feet when he throws this, it's almost laughable.

Does this angle change your opinion at all? It kind of does for me even though the throw was a bit late.
