I’m a Wheeling native. I heard the NBA team will be called the Wheeling Steelers to complement Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel. You wont be disappointed. Wheeling has undergone quite the renaissance. I'm surprised you were able to get a hotel room. There are efforts being made to refurbish the Wheeling Civic Center to bring in an NBA team as well as hosting NCAA games during the next pandemic.

All jokes aside (they cracked me up too), is there a lot to do in Wheeling? I've heard that they have a market house and some restaurants. Just wanted to see if there were any good tips

I haven’t been to that Chick Fil A in a while because the drive thru line is always packedIn the suburbs, there is a Chik Fil A in the Highlands off 70. There's a Wendy's there too. I went there after the Pitt TBT game and they literally said they had no food left except for chicken sandwiches. I said, oh is the kitchen closed for the night. They said no, they ran out of food and were awaiting the truck.
Thanks for the great tips! I'm looking forward to it! Originally, I booked for a place near Hidden Valley, but then thought I might get boredNailers games are fun if they're in town.
The market is cool but not really all that big. There's a brewery across the street from the market.
Oglebay has their Christmas lights display.
Aso far as food goes, Good Mansion Wines is a cool place that has pastries, cheeses, and sandwiches. It's the kind of place people would race about if it was in Lawrenceville or Shadyside. We also liked Carlitos Soul Kitchen when we ate there. If you like the whole Ohio Valley Pizza thing, there's a DiCarlo's downtown.
Every time I drive through the state of West Virginia, I am always amazed at how popular Burger King is. They have one at what seems like every interstate exit.In the suburbs, there is a Chik Fil A in the Highlands off 70. There's a Wendy's there too. I second Oglebay. In addition to the Christmas light display, you can tour the mansion, there is a small zoo, and a glass museum. Nearby in Triadelphia is a Cabela's. If you're at all into outdoors, it's worth a stop. Probably some good Black Friday deals going. I also second Moundsville, home to Brad Paisley, in which you can tour the former West Virginia State Penitentiary and visit the Adena burial mound that gives the town it's name. Finally, there is the Palace of Gold, https://www.palaceofgold.com/, which is a Hare Krishna temple. I don't recall the specifics of how or why it was built there, but it's absolutely worth a visit due to it being so...unexpected.All jokes aside (they cracked me up too), is there a lot to do in Wheeling? Have you ever been to a CFA where the drive thru line isn't always packed?I haven’t been to that Chick Fil A in a while because the drive thru line is always packed
Their service is second-to-none. Let’s just say Wheeling & the Ohio Valley begged on a Chick Fil A for years until they were started here in 2020 (Highlands & Ohio Valley Mall). We’re still in the chicken honeymoon-phase here!Have you ever been to a CFA where the drive thru line isn't always packed?
I usually stay away too, but every time I decide to bite the bullet and get in line, it seems to move really fast.
Awesome tips, thanks so much!!! I never knew any of this stuff even existed!I second Oglebay. There used to be a Marx Toys museum in Moundsville as well that unfortunately closed before I could visit. I'm old enough to remember when Marx was a major producer of toys, including the ubiquitous Big Wheel and Rockem Sockem Robots (we had them!), and I believe they were manufactured in the area. Finally, there is a paranormal museum on my radar if I ever get back to Moundsville: https://wvtourism.com/company/archive-afterlife-national-museum-paranormal/
Of course these aren't places that you'd book a vacation to visit. But interesting if you're in the area? Definitely.
So a house with Xmas Lights A Cabelas A penitentiary and grave yard… Fun Stuff, Nothing says xmas like death and prisons!!!!! Also The town is so poor not only dont they make anything there the Museum that showed stuff they used to make that closed actually closed itself… Comical…I second Oglebay. Wheeling is a complete Hell Hole. Having said that go to Dicarlos Pizza. It is different. They cook the dough with sauce til it is crispy as hell. Then they add the cheese and Pepperoni after it is out of the oven. The locals love it. The first few times I had it, did not understand. Now im addicted. Every time im passing thru on 70 I swing downtown and grab some. The downtown streets have been ripped up for about two years now new sewer lines0?. I have never been to the Gaza Strip but i imagine that and Downtown wheeling look about the same now….

The one on Paterson Drive in Morgantown is even crazier IMO.
Nothing but a Bunch of poor white trash hillbillies…..This post is accurate. When I went to that TBT game, I saw something I've never seen before. I was stopped at a red light about 2 or 3 blocks from the arena when a pack of racoons (maybe 5-6 of them) crossed the street and went into an abandoned building. I dont think I've ever seen more than 1 raccoon at a time and here you had a pack wandering around a city, taking refuge in a building. I told a friend about this who is from the area and he said there's a big raccoon problem in Wheeling. So I googled it.

I will add feel free to run any red light you want… Nobody seems to care or pay attention. I did it right in front of a policeman and he just looked at me like whatever dude,,,

Wow! The original poster is going to be visiting Wheeling and asked what's in the area. I told him some things to see, and I think they're worth seeing IF YOU'RE ALREADY VISITING. Most of the country -- heck, most of Pennsylvania -- is not very exciting from a tourist perspective. But I find that there's something to appreciate in nearly every place and every person. Writing off places and people as trash is a sad way to go through life. Cheers. So a house with Xmas Lights A Cabelas A penitentiary and grave yard… Fun Stuff, Nothing says xmas like death and prisons!!!!! Hightower is great, definitely the best craft beer option in the area.If you like craft beer, check out Hightower Brewing, about 20 minutes from downtown Wheeling and across the river in Ohio.
I travel 170 days a year for work. Been in 47 states and most of Canada. I know a hell hole when I see one. I have also seen some of the most beautiful small towns and Mid sized cities this country has to offer. If you disagree sorry you are entitled to your opinion.Yes you certainly sound like a man of culture and breeding.

Only Place worse than Wheeling is Johnstown PA…

Steelers used to Have a scrimmage at the point stadium for a few years…I always thought it would be cool to have a Pitt @ UPJ exhibition game at the War Memorial for charity. Would really be one of the biggest sporting events in Johnstown history.
