There's a simple fix (use a fixed formula) but then CBS would have to give up those 2 hours of riveting TV filled with high comedy moments like Barkley trying to work the touchscreen.
They want (among other things): geographic dispersion so the whole country is involved; a good number of mid-majors so they can have several potential "Cinderella's"; the ability to manipulate selections so there are intriguing potential match-ups to enhance the drama.
They would face UNC in the Sweet 16, not the Elite 8.Kentucky could put together a run. Anytime you have that kind of talent, anything is possible. They are sitting at a pretty good 4 and they have a very doable route to the Elite 8, when they would likely face UNC. UNC can be pretty erratic, so who knows?
I'd like to think none of it happens, but...None of that happens.

Several years ago, ESPN created the "show" for everything they do. But the CBS Show was a freaking joke. There was absolutely no reason for it to take 2 hours. That should be a 30 minute show. Give the brackets, then have them talk about each region when they are done showing the pairings.
All this committee needs to do is be public about the criteria they use to make their decisions. Because they continue to hide that information, there is every reason to question their process. Plus, the NCAA has a staff which could easily be directed to come up with the entire field. I am not suggesting that this happens, but it is certainly possible.I love a good conspiracy theory. I eat up as much as I can find about the JFK assassination. But the idea that the committee has so much time and effort to plan out all these potential matchups is ridiculous. They are a haphazardly constructed team, who spends 50 hours (or so CBS claimed) putting the entire field together. You guys are giving them way too much credit that they can figure all this stuff out and meticulously plan these matchups.
SMF posted his theory of a legacy-BE field in Brooklyn and half the teams he named didn't go there.
Almost every big time school bends the rules, and some go beyond just bending them.I'd like to think none of it happens, but...
It is increasingly difficult to NOT become extremely cynical about this entire sport every day.
There was a Luke Winn, SI.com article linked on here last week. It detailed a swarmy relationship linking schools booking foreign travel packages with a tour agency named Promosport with signing recruits from CBA, the Canary Islsnds Basketball Academy. An inordinate number of schools which book trips through this obscure travel agency subsequently sign players from CBA.
Promosport and CBA share the same mailing address and the president of Promosport is the Director of Basketball Operations AND an assistant coach for CBA. The aritcle lists at least 19 former CBA players who signed with one of the 11 schools Winn determined had signed travel contracts with Primosport, in the past 6 years.
Schools include Louisville, Minnesota, N.C. State, Oklahoma State, Troy, UAB, UNC-Greensboro, Loyola Marymount, Portland, Seton Hall and Valparaiso. Pitt briefly had signed and released Shaq Doorson, a CBA player while Slice was here. I have no idea if Pitt contracted with Primosport for our Jamaican trip, but this article certainly provides some interesting grounds for conjecture as to just why we so promptly released Doorson.
To go a step further, Wisconsin is not a school associated with the dark side of basketball recruiting. I'm not pointing any fingers but I found it interesting that the tendrills of this reach even to the Dairy state. According to Rivals and the Wisconsin roster, they have or had a 6-11 freshman Andy Van Vliet, variously listed as from Burnaby BC and Antwep, Belgium, who played at Canarias Basketball Academy, too.
It's an increasingly convoluted and corrupt game, on so many levels.
Just tweet the damn thing.....97% of the world has it in 5 seconds or less. Barkley must have pictures of somebody. Fill in another 20 minutes of Barkley playing golf. The rest for commercials.Several years ago, ESPN created the "show" for everything they do. But the CBS Show was a freaking joke. There was absolutely no reason for it to take 2 hours.
