- the new Mac Miller album dropped today. Apparently he was nearly completed with it at the time of his passing. I dont know the whole story of his downfall but its ashame his boys from Allderdice who he was tight with and who I think moved out to LA with him to live up the "Entourage" life couldn't help keep him clean.

- Drake has a lyric about Louisville and Pitino in a new song. Thought it was funny and clever:

"Louisville hush money for my young gunners. Rick Pitino, I take 'em to strip clubs and casinos. Stack of c-notes, get you (expletive) like preemo."

Drake is a huge Kentucky fan FWIW.

Drake is an ephebophile who has groomed multiple underage girls. Douche doesn't even begin to describe him.

Yea I forgot about that crap. I know he’s texted them which is bad enough but if he’s had physical sexual contact with them I amend my statement above to a lethal elbow to the throat.

Drake sucks.

I don't understand the fascination with these rapper clowns. Mac Miller included. He died because he was stupid and did it to himself with drugs and that lifestyle. Why make him into some type of idol or big star? He certainly wasn't.

Because people like to idolize famous people? Especially if they’re athletes or musicians. It’s no different than Jimmy or Janis.

Because good music makes people happy so they associate positive feelings with the person who made that music.

Mac seemed like an alright guy. At least he was never a predator and never pretended that his child never existed like Drake. Drugs are a horrible thing but being a drug addict doesn't make you a bad person.

Maybe cause he was super talented and made some pretty good music? And people over idolize anyone famous, musicians included and especially in this day and age where fame is super important to some people? Unfortunately, Mac didn't stick to weed and got to into lean and other stuff that can get you in the end.

What type of music do you like? Cause I GUARANTEE there's a musician you love that is doing blow , popping pills, or smoking weed. It's not just those "rapper clowns" boomer.

Boomer.....yeah, that's funny. LOL!

What rappers do isn't music to me. But each to his own. Fortunately, I don't listen to it because it's irritating. It's some guy talking jibberish to a beat done over and over. Boring.

Seriously, I like and play classical music. Not what you're thinking as classical. I mean REAL classical music. I do listen to some jazz and rock, but not much. I doubt you short attention span millenials would know anything about that type of music or even try and educate yourselves on it. Although I will say that a few millenials I have listened to who play it are very good. But they're few and far between.

You mean that its music. You just dont like it. I cant stand classical music. I went to see the River City Brass Band once and I have PTSD from it. But its music.

That explains the wacko posts. :D

River City Brass Band! LOL! You're calling that classical music? Not even close.

But as I said, each to his own. I don't care what music anyone likes or doesn't like. But don't compare what some rapper does to what a classical musician does.

Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique is basically one long opium trip based on the composers own experiences and obsession with Harriet Smithson, so let’s not act like 19th century composers didn’t wrestle with the same issues as Mac Miller.

Have to disagree. There are some very talented musicians in hip hop. And just like in any other music category, there’s plenty of crap too. I think that for the most part, Drake falls into the latter group. And as much as I strongly dislike Kayne, his imagination and creativity are hard to deny.

Rap is stupid. I like alternative, but if one of my ‘heroes’ overdoses and dies, well, tough tits . He/her did it to themselves , and I have no sympathy.

It's all a matter of opinion. My opinion comes from years and years and many, many hours of practice and performing classical music from the time I was an 8 year old. I know first hand that being a classically trained musician means something. Music doesn't last for centuries if it's garbage. No one will know what rap is in another 20 years.

There are other types of music out there that can be appreciated. But since rap isn't music, I don't recognize those who "perform" it as musicians. They mumble words while something makes a beat for them, while they swallow a microphone. I'm sorry if that offends millenials. Too bad.

You are just jealous nobody likes your garbage music

I mean, rap has already been around for 40 years so your prediction seems quite foolish.

Your refusal to acknowledge their musicality and skill is also one of profound ignorance.

LMAO

Look at this angry millennial with a boomer mentality who uses words with meanings he doesn't understand. If you don't think rap is music, you need to consult a dictionary.

Not offended, btw, you're just pathetic.

I love the appeal to authority. I’ve been a trained musician since I was 8, too. Been in plenty of symphonies and orchestras. Auditioned for music school in college too.

Know what? I love me some good rap. Sure some of it is awful. So is some of classical music too.

My playlist ranges from Orff to Ol' Dirty Bastard. I've yet to find a genre of music that doesn't have at least a few artists I can appreciate. I've also never met a single musician worth their salt who would so casually dismiss an entire genre. In addition to his appeal to authority being a logical fallacy, I'm skeptical that he's a musician at all. Maybe he bangs on a drum set in his garage, but he doesn't understand musical theory.

I’ve played saxophone since 3rd grade ,taught myself guitar enough to be decent - and the only A+ I had in college was the semester of piano I took (since I could read music and aced my final since playing in front of an audience is something I’ve done since year 8)

and frankly the most interesting music made in the past 15 years is hip hop and rap.

There’s plenty of bad rappers -
But the roots , Kendrick lamar, Eminem , Macklemore, and talib Kweli- even lil Wayne , wiz, Mack miller , and drake -
Are some terrific listening .

I trust nobody who can’t at least enjoy tribe called quest .

The other thing that's great about hip-hop is how seamlessly it melds with other genres including, amusingly enough, classical. There's a really cool group called Ensemble Mik Nawooj who are worth listening to if you have an appreciation for either genre.

I used to be that guy that said I like every type of music but classical and country.

then I matured, got outside my bubble, and realized how pretentious and limiting that was.

though country...is still at the bottom of the list.

I won’t disagree -
Especially modern cookie cutter country

but classic country is pretty interesting - great story telling .

Ironically , I love bluegrass

Modern country is just pop music with a twang. It's awful. There's great classic stuff out there like the Marshall Tucker Band, but there's also a lot of wonderful newer music that's perhaps not explicitly country but certainly influenced by it - stuff like, say, Shakey Graves. Here's a song I'd highly recommend.

I have an unabashed man crush on Malcolm gladwell - and this podcast sums it up very well
