Man I wish we were in the Big 10

Correct - and it was JoePa's ego that refused to look at the ACC. Gene Corrigan has told people in private that as ACC Commissioner he would have strong armed the 8 Presidents to go to 12 with PSU, Pitt, Syracuse, and FSU if JoePa had shown any interest.
Think about that 12 team ACC at the same time the SEC went to 12.
;)

"Pittx9, post: 377582, member: 15348"]I think that conference would have happened if not for one simple reason. Not only was it Paterno's idea, but he had to gloat about it and make it sound like he was some college football innovator that would go down in history as some savior. So yes, quite frankly it was his huge ego that turned Pitt and other schools away. Basically just to show Joe he wasn't always gonna get what he wants.
;):p:rolleyes:

Glen Mason sounded like Bobby the Brain Heenan and it would not have beenbterriblenif in fact he were analyzing a WWE match. Joel Bennanati is not bad. He pulled for Iowa but that was obviously because of his BTN affilation.

The main guy this week was pretty pro Narduzzi I thought. He kept touting the dominance of the defense. I didn't really pay attention to the other guy.

I can't stand Joe Bennanati just because he's such a homer announcer for the Washington Capitals.

Just listening to these announcers reinforces that to me. We don't belong in this "south eastern" league.

Oh well.
Pitt wanted to join the Big Ten back in the late 30's or earlier 40's. Chicago left and left a spot and Pitt applied, but for some reason didn't get accepted! I did think Pitt should have been apart of the Big Ten before Rutgers, But the ACC is a win over Big East/American1

"Slick Manager of Champs, post: 377144, member: 2532"]Paterno's proposed all sport eastern conference was the right answer. It's a shame his greed and the inability of Pitt administrators to negotiate with the ego-maniac led to the clusterf--- known as the Big East in in the 1990's. It is ridiculous that Pitt, PSU,WVU, Rutgers, Syracuse, BC are in three different conferences. The local idiot media never did investigate and give the true reasons this never came to be. To them, everything Paterno did was 100% correct.
;):p:D:rolleyes: Most Pitt Fans are very happy in the ACC where Pitt Size, Academics, Mostly Private 95%, is better suited along with Notre Dame in All Sports except Football Related 5 ACC Teams.

However, WVU would love to be in the ACC and so would most WVU Fans will admit it, including President Gee Whiz!

The same for the Majority of Penn State Fans except for the BWI PSU Cultists that cannot admit Paterno ever made a mistake?

Furthermore, after having to read BWI PSU Cultists Posts on Big Ten Boards, the Majority of Big Ten Posters would prefer Penn State was never in the Big Ten and would prefer Pitt, as many stated here on the Lair and their own Boards!

Even SEC Broadcasters have said SEC would never Invite Penn State due to the Penn State Scandal that happen under Paterno!

I prefer WVU & PSU in the ACC with Pitt, but more happy Pitt is in the ACC!:D:p:cool:

MSU was accepted by 1 Vote over Pitt!

Yep!

When people discuss the what ifs of Paterno's proposed Eastern League these days no one ever seems to acknowedge the elephant in the room. That being that the teams in this league would certainly make for the worst major conference by far. A conference comprised of Penn State, Pitt, WVU, BC, Syracuse, Rutgers, and a few others is absolutely godawful compared to any of the other majors.

The other thing I never understood was who the hell was Joe Paterno to be proposing his own football league? After all he was "just a football coach" right? We certainly heard that sentiment ad nauseum during the Sandusky scandal.

Most likely VaTech would have been included, maybe Miami and even FSU when they were conference shopping. Would not have been worse than Big 10. Purdue, Indiana & Illinois are worse than anything that would be in the all-east. If Pitt wouldn't have imploded in the 90's and the conference would have formed, Pitt-PSU game would have been bigger than Michigan-Ohio State.

Tar Heel...just to make you aware. PittPoker is a Penn State troll visiting the Pitt board attempting to stir the pot. I think every Pitt fan I know prefers being members of the ACC.
I'd prefer to be in the B10 over the ACC for a lot of reasons. I think that was also the first choice of the powers that be at Pitt and a great many Pitt fans at the time the BE was imploding. But that apparently was never going to be an option.

that said, the ACC was the next best option, a way better football league than the BE was after Miami, VT, BC left it. So in this world of conference realignment, we can't be too unhappy with how it all shook out. At the same time i have a hard time believing that most Pitt fans feel right at home in a traditionally southern league with nothing close to a natural rivalry in it.

Tar Heel... just to make you aware. Pitt is #1 does not really think Pitt is #1, he really thinks they are #177. He is a Rutgers troll visiting the Pitt board attempting to act like he knows what he's talking about but really has no clue. I think every Pitt fan I know believes that they are all entitled their opinion about which conference they prefer.

You could definitely argue that at one time Pitt-Penn State was the greatest rivalry in the East.
It was, and Paterno killed it with the help of the Big Ten, which has never seen fit to so much as explore adding Pitt to revive it.

That alone means that any Pitt fan who so much as longs for the Big Ten is a fool. And because the vast majority of ACC fans despise the Big Ten, the more that Pitt fans drool at the prospect of fellating that collection of rich midwestern shite, the more we will see Pitt as, at best, an outsider.

Pittpoker, then explain why you constantly post on the BWI. And all of your posts are pro Penn State and Anti-Pitt. You are a troll. No go back and join your cult friends.

Back around 1980, Sport Magazine (today's college kids: "what's a magazine?") called the Pitt - Penn State rivalry the best in college football. Better than Michigan-OSU, better than USC-UCLA, better than Army-Navy (today's college kids: Army and Navy? They always stink.), better than them all. That's what the pedophile protector destroyed.

Link us to some of these posts you say he makes there.

There are no links because I don't post there. I made 1 post a couple of years ago accusing Joe Paterno of knowing about Sandusky and was blacklisted.

Appreciate you asking him to post links California Panther because the guy is completely full of garbage. I love Pitt and will always be a fan. Obviously because I am negative a lot of the time he doesn't care for my posts and decided to act like he's 15. Yeah I would prefer Pitt be in the Big 10 - big freakin deal.

Paterno was the Athletic Director Officially for a few years too, and always was without the Title!

Bizarre post that does absolutely nothing to support the anti-B10 agenda you seem to be pushing.

News flash--there are poor, mentally ill, drug addicted and disenfranchised people in every small city in the United States. There are considerably more of them in every large city in the United States.

Are you kidding? With our huge national TV following, jam packed 95,000 seat stadium and worldwide brand merchandising?

Come on man. Without shared Power 5 conference TV revenue we'd be D2. There are only a couple of P5 programs that could survive as independents at the moment, ND being the obvious one. It's all about TV revenue.

Thank you, what a horrible, mean-spirited post by this fraud hiding behind an alias. I mean really.

This whole thread is mostly awful.

I don't even understand the purpose of this thread as Pitt was one of only a handful of schools fortunate enough to find a better home after the tragic demise of the Big East. I'd say be grateful.

As for some of these arrogant slights against the BIG and the region, amazing. Good to see the ultimate loser Woad Blue as well, still lurking on various boards spewing anything negative about the BIG. Dude your school cheated their azzes off to win NCs in basketball when there was really no need due to the incredibly hard work Dean Smith invested in the 70s and 80s.

I guess Pitt and PSU fans have couple of things in common: constant negativity on their boards and ongoing slights against other regions of the country. Pa must be a depressing place.
