With a dominant 2d period tech fall to give Pitt a 20-19 win over Duke.

Other than his win and a solid effort by Nino, it was pretty much a zombie-like performance. Bentley in his last home match wrestled much the same way he has his entire career — with minimal effort. He won’t be missed. We will be much better off with Matthews next year.

Talib also went through the motions, doing enough to win but not dominating a very inferior opponent. Stoudt sleepwalked through the first 6 minutes, only to discover it’s hard to overcome a 3 point deficit in the final minute. He almost did though.

Meech, however, left no doubt. He had 3 takedowns in the first 45 seconds, and 6 in the first period, building up a 12-5 lead. A quick escape and then two more quick takedowns in the second, with the second resulting in 4 back points and a quick and merciful end to the match for the Duke wrestler.

Good summation. I thought it was a disappointing way for some of the team to wrestle on senior night.

Awesome to see him lock down a decisive win. I felt bad for him after the UNC dual. He’s a really solid beachweught. Hope he makes some noise in the post-season.

Credit to coach Gavin for filling a hole at HW with someone who could help immediately. If we want to compete at the top level, we need to fill all the holes in the lineup. The future is looking really good.

Bentley is not a 141 pounder. He's wrestling up because we have Micky at 133. That's a big reason he has struggled at times. No doubt, Matthews will be a natural 141 pounder and add a solid wrestler to lineup. Some of the guys have to develop more consistency for sure. Lee injury almost cost us the match, but again great effort by Meech to bring home the win.

My take...
Fenton hit a wall and has not made progress. Almost zero attempt at offense from his feet. Cant get better if you play it safe.

Bentley was sloppy. I dont know him but maybe he isnt as quick as he thinks he is. Finesilver1 kept grinding and took advantage of mistakes. That should not happen to a senior that has the ability that LJ has.

Lee gets hurt trying to work from one of those garbage scrambles that are common in college wrestling these days. People think they are being "funky" when in reality it’s just being lazy. Keep good position and fight! Askerin got away with it. Nolf can get away with it but it is also how Nolf got hurt last year. Besides getting yourself bent up in crazy positions and getting hurt, it doesnt translate to freestyle at all.

Rahmani could be so good if he would just learn to enjoy dominating people. He lets his opponents control the pace too often. He is quick, great hip flexibility, great balance and instincts. He just seems to think basics are boring.

O’Brien is not bad and he keeps fighting but athletically he just seems outmatched. Maybe more experience and a higher pace can help next year.

Harvey fights every point. His style can make it seem like he is barely in control of his body sometimes, but seems to be able to drag his opponents into his irregular reactions. I think the refer got both challenges exactly wrong and that's a shame. If he wasn’t giving the call to Harvey he should have let them wrestle it out.

Bonocorsi just sets such a high pace and he has such a great attitude when he competes. He isnt afraid of anyone. Yea, maybe Rennins knee was really bothering him but Bonocorsi really is getting better and better. His hand fighting and staying off his knees makes him so much quicker. NCAA's are going to be fun to watch.

Stout was looking so much more confident and physical. I hope this match doesn't set him back. I don't know Kellan's personality but just watching him compete - I just wish he would just get pissed and go after people instead of thinking so much.

I’m not sure what he does with the collar tie. I’ve never seen a slide bye or duck under. They should tell him the collar tie is OK as long as he doesn't wrap his hand behind the opponent's neck. I think wrapping his fingers behind the opponent's neck is a like a pacifier for him. It makes him feel safe but also shuts off his offense.

Kellan didn't finish his first shot well but I believe he finished his second shot and should have been awareded the points and the win. He waited till the last few seconds to turn it loose at NC State too. He got the points at NC State but the referee didn't help last night. He has a really nice leg attack for a big guy- he just needs to turn it loose from the opening whistle.

MEECH!!!!
