Mens Soccer-let’s just win it.

Thorssen would have been offside if the KC player hadn’t touched the ball. But, he did and the goal therefore counts.

Great win. This team has great talent but sometimes the mental fortitude doesn’t match the physical talent. Here the mental part was off and on but enough to win.

Other scores so far, Stanford and Ohio State headed to the second overtime tied at nil. Clemson and Wake tied at one in the second half.

The San Diego - Vermont game to determine our next opponent starts at 8:00 our time.

Do I really have to watch Vermont v San Diego to see who we play next?

Of course I do.
Better you than me. And you know what this means? We require a scouting report. Lol.

While waiting for Vermont, #1 tOSU and Stanford are going to PKs after between them, according the the announcers, they only managed 9 SOG in 110 minutes. And, apparently Wake Forest and Clemson are going to PKs as well.

so we could know tonight about when we play again?

I wonder if the four teams that played yesterday will play Friday and the four that play today will play Saturday?

But on the other hand, it does not appear that they have announced the game days/times for the two matchups that were set yesterday.

But they are Friday. They are on the espn app.

Which is why I think we are saturday.

I take that back. The NCAA doesn't have days and times for yesterday's winner on their web site, but SMU's web site says that they are playing Marshall on Saturday at 6 central time, and Denver's web site says they are playing UMass on Saturday at 1 mountain time.

Ok. Then espn is wrong because they have Denver playing Friday.

TOSU won on PKs 4-2. Three of their PKs were unstoppable. High and in a corner. Didn’t matter if GK guessed right. Those are impossible to stop but have the most chance of missing by hitting too wide or too high. Kudos to them for trying them.

I wonder if they are setting it up for all day soccer on Saturday. Either us or OSU hosting at 1:00 eastern, the Denver game at 3 eastern, the other between us and OSU at 5 eastern, and then the game at SMU at 7 eastern.

Holy crap. What a golazo for wake to win it in overtime. Quite a scene in Winston Salem.

Watched WF beat Clemson on a golden goal before switching to Vermont. A freshman from Chicago won it on a great shot from outside the box after only 1:07 of OT. So the defending champions are out of it.

Vermont’s unis are like a cut-rate version of Borussia Dortmund. I think San Diego’s unis are supposed to be aqua but it is the ugliest aqua I ever have seen. Together, they are giving me a headache.
Plus, the refs are wearing purple shirts with black shorts. The whole game is a kaleidoscope of ugly.

not as clear cut as that "involved in the play" might seem

Basically if the GK has to account for the offsides player then its offsides even if the offsides player never touches it so in that play, so even if Sahmkow never touched it and the other guy scored, it would have been called off.

Vermont beat San Diego 1-0 on a PK in OT. Truly one of the worst soccer matches I have seen in I don’t know how long. Neither to me was as good as KC and neither team appeared to have a visible strategy.

Vermont has one really dangerous attacker: a freshman from Philly whose name I think is Basilio. They stressed defense, but I dont think they counterattack nearly as well as KC did. Their defense is big and they drop a lot of guys into the box. San Diego had very few good looks.

I don’t think San Diego had attackers who are nearly as skilled as Pitt’s. If we press the action I think we should score 2 or more goals. I thought Vermont looked for PKs a few times by going down where there was no real contact. The one that got called was a real penalty though, albeit a stupid one because there was another defender behind him.

3-0 seems about right to me.
