Murphy

I agree he was key to winning this game in the 2nd half. Would much rather see him starting over Toney.

I think Champagnie has, at least for now, beaten out Toney. Brown, Champagnie, Murphy, McGowens and Johnson was our best lineup in the 2nd half.

Champagnie plays more like a senior than a freshman. Very impressive poise.

This team is going to be so much better with the addition of guys like Murphy, Champagnie, Drumgoole, and Hamilton. They will compliment guys like X and Trey and with the team being much better defensively this team is gonna win a lot more games then it did a year ago for sure.

Nice to see Brown make some big baskets down the stretch in this game as well. I agree those 5 really played well together and I was glad to see Capel stick with that lineup the entire time in the 2nd half which lead to the comeback.

This first game being that it was a ACC game JC was still trying to find his combinations thank God we got this win but the next couple games is going to really help us because the other players will get their due and we'll be able to get into a rhythm with less tension

Murphy, Champagnie, Brown, and Hamilton were really impressive. We saw “good Terrell Brown” and I’m hopeful that “good Terrell” becomes just “Terrell”. The other three look like really quality additions.

Johnson and Trey were clearly forcing things in the first half (to the team’s detriment), but settled down more and started trusting their teammates more as the game wore on.

It wasn’t at all pretty - these November games haven’t been, generally speaking - but we’ve been through enough over the past few years to take conference wins for granted. Great win.

Yeah what did happen to coulibaly? JC has a knack for identifying transfers. Hamilton looked serviceable, Ndir was decent last year, and Murphy, well I’m very glad we have him two years!

I haven't heard anything About him, but what happened to coulibaly?

My guess would be with the game being so sloppy in the first half and he has that awkward game he probably wouldn't have helped as much in the first half and in the second half the game was too tight to throw in a raw freshman like that in that close situation. he will get plenty of playing time in the next few games to get his feet wet and gain a little experience

Being able to win against FSU when you don’t play your best is a good sign . JC ( the player ) looked really good as did Murphy and TB .

Murphy is obnoxious and I mean that in the most complimentary way possible. His help defense, the way he attacks screens, his effort in the paint, rebounding, etc. He's a decent athlete, but he gets 100% out of his physical ability because he's ****ing relentless and that's what differentiates him from most other 3 point specialists. He's a good player who can shoot 3s, not just a good 3 point shooter.

Yep. Agree. The dude has a tude. He is fundamentally sound. Plays good position D and help D and gets his but in his guys groin and actually boxes out and is a good passer off the dribble and doesn't force shots!

Love his game. Good shooter. Scraps for rebounds and steals. He is also a better defender than JWF and doesn't hurt our man-to-man defense as much. He is good at help defense as well, and recovers pretty quickly. I'm sure he will have trouble staying in front of ultra-quick guards, but who doesn't?

He has a high basketball IQ and understands good spacing and that will enable him to always be an option off of Trey and X's drives. What a great find by Coach Capel.

I thought it was an air ball...I hope he figured it out. But if he can be a shutdown defender and assist leader, I’ll take it.

Murphy is a smart basketball player who understands the value of spacing and how to attack. He gives all the effort, can make the shots and is just a great all around player. I laughed when Vascel(sp) just buried a 3pt over the top even though Murphy played perfect defense. He looked a foot shorter. There's going to be those kind of plays when the opposing talent and size is too much. But all in all he comes off as a winner tonight. Seems like a great teammate too.

Eric Devendorf (sp???) but not nearly as damn ugly.
Also did not get slap happy with his GF before the game.

I still remember the “KIMBERLY SMITH” chants back in ‘08-09 run. I think we were their first road game after that happened.

The announcer said that he was at Washington state. Is this true? I thought he was going to go to there instead of us but then they had a coaching change.

Needs to be a starter.
Great win.

He is better than I think people expected. He can shoot. He knows how to play the game and he is not lacking confidence nor he wants to be a leader out there. He can be a difference maker for this team. He can shoot 50 percent from three and 90 from free throw line while playing 30 mins a game. He is going to be on the floor no way Capel won’t be playing him. We won tonight and he was the main reason why. Capel is getting better and better people complain about his recruiting. U serious. He has yet to even show what he can do and he is already getting gems. We’re going to make the ncaa tournament and next year we’re going to be better.

His FT shooting down the stretch was something I haven't seen at Pitt in a while.
Capel is making progress.
Yeah I would say that. Damn.
Pitt has a basketball team again.
Artis, Xavier, Trey all not bad FT shooters. By in a while, do you mean since last season?

But Murphy was clutch in his late game two makes. Trey had a miss. Very small sample size, but good to know at least one can make two when needed:
