Musselman does it again

He gets whoever he wants. Lol.
Why is he so good at this?

I think he would have asked too much but we never asked. Coulda had Cronin too.

Heather really blew that hire. We will be looking for a new HC and paying a huge buyout in March 22 or 23 unless he gets Efton Reid.

I don’t know if Musselman or Cronin take the job.

Whether we get Reid or not, he isn’t a program changer or job saving guy on his own. Obviously you want a kid with his upside, but pinning the fate of Capel/the program on him is beyond ambitious

Probably make a Steven Adam’s type freshman difference and be like a 10 and 6 guy. We still need more talent and experience around him. Need a few good experienced transfers and one that is big and one who can play point.

What I'm saying is a guy like Reid buys him a year or 2 because we'd likely win a couple extra games which will prevent his firing next March. Plus, Capel could sell guys on coming to play with a 5 star Center.....to be that missing piece

He’s not getting fired next March unless he goes 0-19 and has no one in the 2022 class and there’s mass transfers again. You should probably wrap your head around that

2-18

2022 class of a few 200ish players ranked near the bottom of the ACC

2 more starters transfer

All of this is possible.

Does he get a Year 5 if these events happen?

Yes. Heather Lyke is giving him a 5th year no matter what happens. I do wonder if you post it another 124758 times between now and then if it will change. I really do.

If I had to bet money, I would say he will get a 5th year but if 2021-22 is disastrous and the 2022 class sucks, I do think its very possible he gets canned. I mean at that point, it would be obvious to everyone he will eventually be fired so the only reason to keep him would be to save a year of buyout money.

Reid? Isn't he a 7' center?

Those guys are hit or miss and he looks like a guy that will need time to develop. Pitt obviously needs all the front court help they can get ASAP, but I wouldn't count on Reid elevating the program all that much, at least in year one. I think the biggest domino that could fall Pitt's way for next year is Champagnie returning. I still think there is a decent chance of that happening.

I'm sure she would. However, when/if Capel gets ran, I don't Heather will be the one making that call. The donor or donors footing the bill are going to make that one when they have decided they've seen enough.

It certainly looks like something like this could happen. No recruiting, no transfers to speak of, and basically a 6 man roster that has no leader and no ACC talent. Not a good sign for next year.

I'll change my mind IF we can get at least 3 top level transfers and every one of them can prove themselves as players on the court next year. Hype for transfers means nothing. Let's see them play on the court and get results.

Stability is the way to go here. He'll figure it out eventually.
Just has to get past that midseason meltdown phase.

You guys continuously debating when/whether Capel will be fired, always basing it on record and/or recruit rankings are way off base. If or when Capel ever gets fired will be most dependent on donors and fans - how many in seats at the Pete, overall sentiment of the fans since that is pretty easy for the AD to gauge these days, etc.

And under the circumstances, and trying to be realistic, how many fans will be at The Pete next year, if and when they allow attendance from fans? I think that even if they allow 100% attendance, there won't be more than 2,000 - 3,000 fans at any one game, unless it's against Duke or UNC. Even then, it won't be over 4,000. That's only a little less than 1/3 full. The place will be empty going forward and until we get a team that is worth watching.

The only fans in attendance will be the most diehard fans who have lived through the bad times and the good. There aren't many of those around any longer.

Duke will sellout. UNC will get 10K. Other ACC games: 3000-4000

Non-con: 1000

I'd take that bet for any stakes on offer.

It is all about logistics and in musseleman’s case… Making sure the bag man meets up with the player without being noticed

So what coach is Pitt going to hire that will ignite ticket sells ? I’ll answer that for you ... no one .

Next question ... So whose coming up with the buyout money.....I’ll answer that for you too ...no one ,

Next question ....What coach of notoriety wants to leave his current gig where he’s obviously being successful to come to Pitt ? ... I’ll once again help you out here ...no one !

The only solution I can think of to get immediate results is that Pitt needs to find a way that they can live with that allows a booster group to assist in recruiting manners . The only other solution is to allow JC to continue developing relationships hoping that better recruiting results will follow .
