for some unforeseen reason,I have to be there this weekend. It's homecoming and I'll see the game vs Kansas. I know not to wear my Pitt hat LOL, and I'll try and act under the radar. Any other suggestions?

There's decent brew pub called "Mountain State Brewery". The name is not too original but the pizza is good. If we're passing by on the interstate around meal time, we often drop by. It's located by the lower campus near the river, with a parking garage next door. We spent several enjoyable evenings there with our daughter and her friends.

BlackBear Burritos has interesting burritos and microbrews. More of a lunch place.

I mean, these are not 5-star places, but are good comfort food with mostly a college age clientele and atmosphere.

Our daughter got her Masters as a Pathology Assistant there. Somewhat surprisingly, to this Pitt grad, WVU's PA program is very well- regarded nationally.

It's not a Pitt game weekend so Pennsylvania license plates should be safe while parked.

If you are driving from the stadium, and making the right turn from Patteson Drive to Rt 19, back towards the Star City area, the merge almost in front of the basketball Colliseum is a fender bender waiting to happen. The signs are not clear. My daughters apartment was close to the football field and we saw an accident there pretty much every weekend.

Mountain State’s food is good but unless they’re doing something different their beer absolutely sucks. Good news is they have taps of other micros so you’re not SOL if you wanna have a cold one or 2. I’ve been to my share of brew pubs and their beer is by far the worst I’ve had.

Stay away from the student section and get a decent seat and you should be fine. Even wearing Pitt gear to Brawls there, the fans I encountered gave me some grief but it was mostly in good fun. Unless you act like an asshole, of course. Like most places, the people sitting in the better seats usually have a lot more to lose than the deadbeats who buy the cheap seats and get smashed.

I came down with an obscure allergy and my doctor no longer allows me to drink beer, but 4 to 5 years back when we were drinking there, it seemed fine. To each his own, I guess.

The world is a perverse place. I retire. Brew-pubs spring up everywhere. And I swell up with hives if I have more than one beer per week.

Perhaps rum or whiskey? I believe a couple local places - Maggie’s Farm for rum and Wigle for whiskey - have won some awards.

Tryout Kegler's sports bar, its 3 levels. Decent food and good post/pre-game atmosphere. Only a half mile from the stadium, and you can park out back for the game.
Stephano's downstairs is a gem for upscale Italian.
Have fun and hope they crowd treats you well.

True. I'm allowed distilled spirits. I'll happily drink the odd scotch or margarita, but since I drink so much less, it seems to hit me harder. I'm a big guy. I used to be able to drink 4 or 5 brews and still be well below the legal limit.

Now, usually, I'll nurse one mixed drink with my meal. It sort of defeats the whole purpose of a brew pub. Go out, sit down, have a flight and try 3 or 4 different brews while enjoying the evening.

I've become the permanent designated driver.

Mustache and glasses with a big nose would help.

Motown is awesome especially during a game. Keglers is awesome, Crockett's is always a good place and the Fish bowl. Right across from the stadium is the Varsity club another great place. People will give you a little good ribbing but you should have a blast

Go to town hill, try and drink 5 tankers. If you do, attempt to talk to a girl, fail and go home by yourself.

Used to be the best. Mario’s Fishbowl Cowboy Ranch are incredible. Not to mention the ice cold Fishbowls are the coldest beers in town.

RON! Long time no hear. Yeah, what about the new Fishbowl on University? I been there last year on a drive by, but nothing beats the original for sure.

Like many of you know, I lived in Morgantown for about 9 years, 2000-2009. Man, I have almost been out of there now for about a decade. Wow.

I never had a problem in Morgantown. Never. Even after 13-9 in Kegler's, walking in, I knew everyone. They gave me some shit, but nothing that was over the top. In fact, I can remember maybe a week after 13-9 being in Kegler's with a Pitt hat on and a guy at the bar asked me "aren't you worried about wearing that hat here?" I said, "No, I know where everyone lives and so they know I can get even if they eff with me". The guy just shook his head.............I said "seriously, I live here, they know me, it's okay".

Do not worry about wearing Pitt gear. I have lived near Mon Co/Morgantown for 21 years. I even was wearing my brand-new script hoodie as I walked past Hostletler himself in Morgantown Lowes with Smirk on my face. Noone bothers you unless you walk around insulting them. I maybe had 5 comments my 21 years here and all were a good nature. I wore Pitt gear to the Brawls...never a comment. Of course Im with 5 locals who wear the WVU Blue and YELLOW.

Im a bit older i assume than most these young turds on this board and could frankly care less about IPADABAs or whatever these deer piss beers are now. Go to Tailpipes on High Street if you want a really good burger.

Side note if anyone on here is buying I'll meet you in any establishment mentioned above.I've been drinking fishbowls in Marios since 1969 and plan on doing it for a long time.I love the old bars in town where my wife likes the newer ones.

Next time in town I may take you up on that. LOL. I used to drink with Hertzel at the Beanery all the time. I was sitting next to him having a pop when he was talking to Pat White when he confirmed he was spurning baseball to come to WVU

...take an old couch if ya got one. You will be an instant hit. The locals will provide the matches and gasoline.

I lived in Morgantown from 2004-2011. I sent my kids to school in Pitt gear the Monday after 13-9. They still have a laugh about that. They got a lot of grief from some of their teachers. Now as adults they ask me why I did that. Because I could....and I'm glad that I did LOL.

Hahaha, my 8th grade son wore his script shirt today. He wears Pitt gear now to school just to create controversy. Lol. Rabble rouser.

True story: So the Monday after Pitt beat PSU two years ago, he wears his gear (a 6th grader). A teacher asked why is he wearing it. He said because Pitt beat PSU and I hate Penn State. Teacher asked why. He said "Cause of the Jerry Sandusky scandal. They are disgusting (I'm 80% sure that was his adjective used)" Teacher just walked away. HAHA. Turns out he is a PSU alum. :D

So........the Friday before that game.......at work I was getting a lot of jabs. I mean who really thought Pitt would win. So good natured jabs. Well one Monday per month, we have what is known as an "Operations Meeting" where everyone goes first thing in the morning. Well for that month it happened to be the Monday after 13-9. I purposely walked in a bit late....walked right up to the front....took out a marker, wrote on the white board...'WE SHOCKED THE WORLD", put my finger up with the #1 sign and took my seat. Everyone was laughing I have to admit. They knew I was going to pull something because I am sure it is a surprise to many of you, I wasn't exactly a shrinking violet at work.

Ive never been a liquor guy. But recently I was turned onto Bird Dog whiskey. This is probably blasphemy to the bourbon connoisseurs, but they have chocolate, strawberry, blackberry, apple and peach flavors. The peach is incredible.

That’s sounds like the area where Oliverios Italian restaurant sits. That place is excellent. I highly recommend it to everyone. It’s a Morgantown must for dinner.

Additionally Harve, I’m so sorry to hear about your allergy. I don’t know what a I would do without beer. I’m sure you’ll manage though. As humans, we adapt. Try the bird dog whiskey that I mentioned in this thread if you are able. Great stuff.

Are people who drink craft beer snobs? To each his own. I’ll drink a Miller lite or whatever, especially in the summer, because I can’t stand IPA’s and that often seems to be all you can get in the summer months. I hate walking into a bar and them having 18 IPA’s on draft, one porter, one stout, Yingling, and Coors light.

But there’s nothing wrong with a little variety when drinking beer, especially with the Fall and Winter seasonals. But if I’m sitting at a bar next to a guy drinking Budweiser, I won’t be looking down my nose at him. He’s allowed to enjoy whatever he wants. I never understood the term “beer snob”. If anything, I’m pissed at the IPA guys. Do they have to monopolize 90% of the taps in 90% of pubs?

Well if it what I think Harve was talking about, it is along the river but on the other side of the bridge (not river) from Olivierios.

Black Bean Burritos is right by 123 Pleasant Street, which was a great place to see bands.

Oliverios original restaurant is in Bridgeport, WV and we took customers and visitors there so many times, I can practically recite their menu.
