Pitt receives 30 votes...good for #33.

In relation to other ACC members

Clemson #2
Syracuse #12
BC #22
Virginia #30
Duke #31
NC State #32

Colley has Syracuse #19; Sagarin has them #34; S&P+ has them #39. Would the voters really think they'd be favorites against Texas or even Utah State? Definitely getting too much credit by the coaches imho, though if it helps us in terms of a quality win on the resume, so be it.

3-0 against the ACC teams ahead of us. Duke and Virginia still ahead tell me voters continue to look at overall record only

The voters don’t really look at anything. Many of these coaches don’t actually fill out their own ballots, and other than the teams they play these coaches have no clue which teams are better than the others.

As I posted in another thread. Our overall Sagarin ranking is #48 and behind several teams we have recently beaten. But Sagarin's "Recent Games Ranking" has us #23 overall and #1 in the ACC Coastal and #3 in the ACC. We are virtually tied with Sagarin Recent Games Ranking of #22 Cuse for ACC #2 & #3 behind ACC #1, Clemson (overall #2).

I think that is a correct and fair assessment. We were playing very poorly early in the season but we are playing at a much different and higher level now. So we should be ranked on a weighted average of the two extremes because rankings should reflect your entire season's body of work not be based on how good or bad you are this week.

Screw our computer rankings & playing "iron sharpens iron" OOC games that fans attend to see the opponent & that always kill us in the long-term .... schedule OOC opponents like a B10 or SEC team would so we can get easy early-season wins & actually have a good record & actually get ranked (which is based on almost nothing but record) & get talked about nationally so recruits are always hearing Pitt mentioned.

That is the ONLY way we improve our program in the long-term. To think otherwise ("but look at how many people showed up to the ND game") is only hurting our record & our ability to recruit, which becomes a cycle that we've been stuck in for too long.

Perhaps. I still doubt Pitt is a top 25 team because our passing defense is exceptionally weak.
If Pitt can beat Wake and Miami then we might make the top 25. There are many teams above us and it will be difficult to jump them even if we win the next two games.

For all the talk about the brutal non-conference schedule, if we had beat UNC we are likely to be ranked. I agree our non-conference schedule is far to tough for our program. It's just not the only reason we are not ranked.

Have you seen some of the other top 25 teams this year? Pitt belongs.

Bingo! If Pitt takes care of business and beats UNC, we wouldn’t be having this conversation...

Really? How many of them have multiple 30+ point losses? How many have a loss to a 1-8 team? How many have both? Hell, I think the only team in the top 25 with a single 30+ point loss is PSU and they have a 45-point win against Pitt.

Pitt has 4 losses, 3 of which are really bad. They absolutely don't deserve to be in the top 25 yet. If Pitt wins out, then I'm sure they will be ranked going into the ACC Championship game.

Pitt is as good as most of the teams outside the top 10, so are about 20 other non-ranked teams. The fact is, after Clem and Bama there is another tier of 5-6 teams and then us and 40 others. In our group its all about perception and perception is about beating whoever was on your schedule.

Northwestern is in there at 6 and 4 and lost to Akron and have no top 25 wins.

Just keep winning though.

Duke and Virginia both still ranked ahead makes zero sense... put Pitt at 25 with those two where they are... that makes sense.

And UNC was awhile ago now

Sorry but much has happened since that game

I'm happy they are not, because they will lose a winnable game as soon as they enter the top 25.

We also shouldn't be in there, as some others in there should not be. We took such an ass whippen in prime time by PSU to a national audience, and then the UNC game that it does'nt surprise me that people outside of this board don't see Pitt as a top 25 team.

More surprised Northwestern is ranked with same record despite much easier scheduled. But the B10 and SEC writers are such homers I guess I shouldn’t be really

Use it as motivation. Whip the kids up to take it out on Wake.

(Even if I don't particularly think we should be ranked either .... shhhhh)

Pitt's running game would absolutely thrash the #6 team OU. Never saw so many athletes shying away from contact. Of course Pitt couldn't stop them either. Sickens me how pundits call Big12 games track meets.
At least Vilma and Palmer voiced their disgust with defensive play by anyone in the B12.

Pre-season polls are not accurate and during the season rankings beyond the top six spots are so subjective they've become meaningless.
Let's just win the next two games and become ACC Coastal Champs.
After that who knows almost anything can happen.

Seriously since losing to UNC Pitt goes on to beat Duke -Cuse-Virginia and Virginia Tech... beat Georgia Tech before that as well

The polls make no sense whatsoever... none

Except that every single writer/computer ranking system has Northwestern 5-10+ spots higher than Pitt in Strength of Schedule, so the schedules are comparable at the very least. Coffey, Massey, Connelly, Sports Reference, Sagarin, and Anderson all have Pitt's schedule as easier.

The consensus points in the exact opposite of your claim.
