New OC

Do you think Van Pelt wants to call plays again and would make the move? Getsy has a growing reputation but has only called plays at IUP if I remember correctly.

Everyone has said AVP is a no go given he did not graduate. If I'm him I'm holding on for something good in the NFL given where the previous Packers QB coach (McAdoo) landed. He's had success everywhere he has been (aside from Buffalo). He made Josh Freeman and Eddie Lacy look like Pro Bowlers and gets a ton of praise from Rodgers.

Getsy would be a big risk, I think he'd need to team up with Salem for at least a little while.

Some other NFL names (admittedly all long shots)

Dooley from the Cowboys has been mentioned and is now available.

Matt Nagy (co-OC from the Chiefs) is now available and would be super unlikely. Going from pro OC to college OC is a demotion, no doubt. He is, however, co-OC with a much bigger name (Brad Childress) and I'm not sure how much of his fingerprints are on the Cheifs' offense. I think he lands a pro OC job though. He has PA roots.

Another NFL name (not from the playoffs) is Greg Knapp, recently let go from the Broncos during their coaching change. Ton of experience, he probably lands somewhere back in the pros. But he does have almost a decade of pro experience.

Canada had one. It's not unusual given what coordinators are paid to have buyouts. They are becoming standard
They really aren't standard, unless they are a big contract OC. It is incredibly unlikely we are signing someone like that away from another school who is keeping them and thus still have a buyout attached.

i find that really hard to believe. Pitt goes out of their way to make sure nobody knows salary information. not one person on these boards knows the pay of any assistant on the staff, yet people seem to think they know there way a buyout and they know it was a lot of money? c'mon. funny thing, they cannot produce any factual information. nothing has been confirmed anywhere.

what happens a lot on these boards is that somebody posts a number and then people assume it to be a fact.
And you can't even attach a buyout on a 2 year $500k per contract, which would ever stop someone from poaching them.

Don't throw out big names, it hasnt been Pitt's style, normally.

It will be some smaller school guy or someone on the skids with there current school.

We've done well with that tho.

looks likes it's going to be someone from the NFL

I'll just wait until it is announced. After the announcement, half of the posters here will proclaim it was an awful hire and that Pitt's offense will be doomed. Others will proclaim it to be a brilliant hire before the guy coaches a Pitt player. As I recall from many of our genius posters Canada was trash and a horrible hire--and we saw how that turned out. I believe in the head coach...and expect he will hire someone that will do a good job. The offense was/is going to be a bit challenged based upon who is returning from the 2016 squad, regardless of who the OC was/is going to be. Hail to Pitt!

Coach Pat OC Hires are 2 for 2, I expect him to have a Hat Trick. Best Coaching Staff I have seen since 1973-83!

To be fair, Walt Harris never had the money, Wannstedt boosted the Money but the Staffers could recruit lacked some Off the Field development coaching, GraHAM was a HAM Stand & Staff, Chryst brought some Wisky but they left, and took only a few back to Wisky.

Coach Pat & Staff have changed attitudes, cut out distractions, and Recruits in Weight Rooms with Players in the Film Rooms, and all in the Classrooms!
