NFL Draft Thread

Can’t wait for the technical glitch that makes the Bengals draft a punter first overall.

First three picks all former OSU players. Just shows the divide between the elites and everyone else.

Anyone else catch one of the talking heads say that Chase Young, who I think will be average, at best, was the most dominate college defensive player he's ever see and up there with the likes of xyz, xyz, xyz, xyz. They named like 5 guys but no AD. AD had one of the most dominate seasons and won the most awards of almost anyone I can recall.

Honestly, I think the Steelers are in a great place heading into round two. A lot of teams either reached or picked based on position of need, leaving a lot of talent on the board.

I could see them going a number of different ways re: position. RB, WR, OL/DL, and S all seem to be in play. I think the most likely scenario is DL/WR in rounds two and three.

Safety is the most intriguing option at round two because the idea is likely that you draft one (none have been drafted yet!) to start at SS and move Edmunds to ILB.

The future of the Dolphins is far brighter than the Steelers.

2-3 years from now, the AFC is going to look a lot different.

I've been hearing that for 10+ years, and about the following AFC teams: Chargers, Jets, Colts, Raiders, Jaguars, Browns, Ravens, and now Dolphins.

There's 1 Super Bowl in there and it's Flacco's.

Nobody else has achieved what Ben and the Steelers have. None of them. I ain't holding my breath.

A lot of options for the Steelers to consider. RB or WR seem to be the most popular thoughts thrown out there for their 2nd and 3rd round choices but I won’t be surprised if one of those ends up being defense.

About the only thing I agree with, if you don’t take a top RB in the 2nd round, not much point in taking one in the 3rd because what you get there we likely already have on the roster.

In any event, a lot more to look forward to on this 2nd day of the draft compared to day 1.

And that is as it should be. The NFL is set up for the worst teams to draft before the best teams. It is amazing however, how some of the worst teams, stay the worst teams and some of the best teams stay the best teams.

So in 2-3 years, the Dolphins should be better than the Steelers and Patriots. So should the Browns. And Bengals. And Jets. Just never seems to work out that way, does it?

Agreed about the RB part. I also feel fine with Conner/Snell/Samuels, though someone like McCoy would be nice to get in free agency this year. I wouldn’t want to draft a RB until next year when Conner’s contract is up and he likely walks.

Even then, I hope they don’t spend high draft capital on it. Just not worth it a lot of the time.

Different front office, different (and competent) HC, lots of high draft picks.

I am fully aware of those teams that have a window to get it right and never do. The dolphins to this point are the poster child for 7-9.

But it's a new day. And I will be proven correct.

Packers really f'ed up with Love in the first round. They need to be all in with Rodgers. Its not like he has shown decline, just needs weapons.

The Dolphins have 9 picks in the first and second round of this years and next years draft.

Tua stays healthy and develops, they will be very good in 3 years.

pretty ridiculous to take history into account when no one in the current organization was there to be responsible for their mediocrity. Equally as silly to discuss what Ben has done as he wont be here in 2-3 years.

The Saints sucked...until they got Drew Brees. This is no different.

Las Panteras is right. The dolphins are a playoff team in 3 years. The Steelers OTOH, are looking at a Bubby Brister like future.

Yeah...no one in the Browns organization was there when they got Baker, Odell Beckham, Jarvis Landry, Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt, Myles Garrett, etc. etc. and then they sucked. You're right, that was decades ago.

Jalen Ramsey, Fournette, and all those other guys on the Jags weren't there went they went from next best in 2017 thing to 5-11.

Remember when Derek Carr was the next big thing? Is he still leading the Raiders?

I saw preseason predictions that Rivers was gonna win about 4 Super Bowls.

This stuff isn't ancient history. There's always a "next big thing." The Dolphins are just the AFC's newest it girl. I'll believe it when I see it and not before.

What makes it even worse is that LB and WR were their two biggest positions of need, a few guys from each had fallen to them, and the still took the QB!

They traded a 1st team All Pro Safety for a rookie OT. Maybe it'll work out. I think they'd be better off with Fitzpatrick.

They also killed themselves on Love's first contract, wasting 2 cheap years of control. So now if Rodgers leaves in 2 years, they only get a maximum of 3 years (with the club option) of Love's rookie deal before he needs a $50M contract. Silly.

Honestly, I like the Steelers’ outlook after Big Ben retires. I think it’s actually different than, say, the post 70s Steelers.

They have a few players on both sides of the ball that they can work with, and they’re still entering their primes! I think if they can hit on whoever they draft at QB, they will be just fine.

Yeah they were in the NFC championship you think they’d look to win now. I can maybe see if he was at the top of their board at 30, but they traded up to get him.
Maybe they’re just following the model that worked for them previously. Didn’t they draft Rodgers when Favre still had a few good years left? Don’t recall for sure, was Rodgers also taken at around a similar draft position?

I think so too. I think most Steelers fans think 2021 is the year to draft that guy.

Agree big time. I would much rather have the Steelers potential under-30 core (Fitzpatrick, JuJu, Watt, Tuitt, Devin Bush) than 4 guys who have never played a down in the NFL and Davante Parker.
