NFL Draft Thread

pretty ridiculous to take history into account when no one in the current organization was there to be responsible for their mediocrity. Equally as silly to discuss what Ben has done as he wont be here in 2-3 years.

The Saints sucked...until they got Drew Brees. This is no different.

Las Panteras is right. The dolphins are a playoff team in 3 years. The Steelers OTOH, are looking at a Bubby Brister like future.

So Drew Brees is the same as the guy who wasn't even the consensus 2nd best QB in his own draft?

I think so too. I think most Steelers fans think 2021 is the year to draft that guy.
Whichever year USC’s Kedon Slovis comes out is the year I want them to draft a QB. Don’t know what it is about him but I think he might have “it.” Looked great as a true freshman.

Yeah they were in the NFC championship you think they’d look to win now. I can maybe see if he was at the top of their board at 30, but they traded up to get him.

Yeah if I'm Rodgers I'm looking for a landing spot soon. He probably says the right things but they really aren't doing anything to improve.

Maybe they’re just following the model that worked for them previously. Didn’t they draft Rodgers when Favre still had a few good years left? Don’t recall for sure, was Rodgers also taken at around a similar draft position?

Not really though. Going into that 2005 draft Rodgers was considered for the top pick. There was debate over whether he or Alex Smith was the top QB, if SF would take the kid from across the Bay or whether he was another Tedford system QB. Rodgers freefall was unexpected and Green Bay took advantage. Love was not even a consensus 1st rounder and they moved up to get him.

They still should have probably done something to help Favre but I think there was a lot of frustration after losing to the Vikings in the WC.

I would go WR if I was the Steelers , I like Tee Higgins but that is a dream.
Maybe Michael Pittman will be there but they will probably take an RB or OT.

well they went quick in the second, even the mocks had Pittman lasting until the 3rd.
A lot of safeties and receivers getting picked so far, I wonder if that’s going to trigger a free-for-all at those positions causing a few teams to move up.

I feel the Steelers can draft or trade for a million safties and still get torched, so do the opposite and reap the rewards.
Everyone expected Belicheck to take a QB and he traded down.

Yeah definitely quick with Higgins and Pittman. I was liking Pittman. Still some other WRs out there but not sure I’m liking them for the 2nd round. May have to look at RB or defense. Top S If one’s there and they think Edmunds can move to LB, or LB if there’s one they think can eventually take over for Dupree.

I like Kevin Colbert but he is on his last year , AGAIN after signing a 1 year contract .
I dont like the way Art Rooney II runs the team and I think it shows in the standings the past few years after Dan Rooney passed away.
who knows now...

Steelers have a history of drafting OSU players. The way things are shaking out and who still has to pick ahead of them, I’m predicting J.K. Dobbins for the Steelers. Cam Akers to the Bucs.

LOL, just lost the 2nd part of that prediction. Steelers can pick between Dobbins and Akers, sticking with Dobbins.

Well, between Ebron in free agency and Claypool with this 2nd Rd pick, sounds like they’re looking to solve those redzone problems. Two big targets.

I like it! We actually did a mock draft on the national board and I picked Claypool to the Steelers.

Think it’s a good pick because he compliments the rest of the group so well; his size and speed brings something different and will definitely be big in the redzone. Now in the third round I’m thinking OL/DL.

Packers really f'ed up with Love in the first round. They need to be all in with Rodgers. Its not like he has shown decline, just needs weapons.

He showed some signs of declining last year, I see no reason to think he will improve this season.

No problem with Green Bay taking a QB, their mistake was trading up when there was no need to. They could’ve traded out of the 1st round and more than likely still been able to pick up Love. If not either Eason or Fromm would’ve been available as a developmental QB. It made it look like they don’t know what they’re doing.

I wanted Higgins not a clown from Notre Dame.......

just saying ..... I am glad for a WR though.

Steelers have faith in Conner .

They should go after Fournette if the asking price is right.
But why? I like Fournette, but he is a year away from needing a contract at a value that the Steelers would almost certainly not be comfortable with. You have Conner and Snell. If they aren’t productive this year there will be a gaggle of guys you can pick in the 2nd round next year.

You are only paying him about 4 mil next year. I like the idea of Fournette and Conner as a 1-2 punch.

Fournette is making something like $8m this year on the 4th year of his rookie deal and his 5th year option would be worth over $10m so no you aren’t getting him for $4m a year. It makes no sense for the Steelers.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have had trade discussions involving running back Leonard Fournette, ESPN reported Saturday. The Jaguars have until May 4 to exercise their fifth-year option on Fournette, who is scheduled to make $4.16 million in base salary in 2020.

Cardinals are having a great draft. Simmons is a versatile athletic player to improve their bad defense. Even if Josh Jones moves inside he is likely a starter on their OL this season. They got arguably the best player available at both picks.

I’m should have clarified that I am talking about cap hit. His hit is $8.6m this year and his hit would be over $10m if his fifth year option is picked up. Those are not numbers the Steelers are typically interested in dealing with.

By contrast, Conner’s is just a hair over $1m.

Nothing to see here.

Different front office, different (and competent) HC, lots of high draft picks.

I am fully aware of those teams that have a window to get it right and never do. The dolphins to this point are the poster child for 7-9.

But it's a new day. And I will be proven correct.
I think you are putting too much confidence in Tua. I think the guy is going to break down sooner rather than later. He suffered a bunch of injuries behind a very good o-line. What is going to happen when he faces bigger, stronger, faster players week in week out?

This is just my opinion

That is not the way that cap hits work for traded players. If the Jags trade Fournette ALL of his signing bonus goes to their cap. The team that he gets traded to only has to pay his base salary, and only his base salary counts against their cap. So any team that trades for Fournette now pays him $4.1 million this season, and he counts as $4.1 million against that team's salary cap.

Thanks for the clarification. So what happens to his 5th year option then? And it doesn’t change the fact that he is going to be looking for big money after 2020 or 2021, which doesn’t sound like the Steelers at all.

If the Steelers want a QB in this draft, Jake Fromm might slip to them in the 3rd.
