The real issue facing Notre Dame in the pending playoff alignment is that they will always have to play an extra game to get to the promise land, but that top recruits will legitimately view ND football as second rate. Your views?

No different than what anyone would view them as now. It's Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State at the top and then everyone else. They view it as the extra playoff game is worth not having a conference championship game. If not for money, I wonder how long conferences would keep those games in place.

ND is very happy with the new proposed playoff setup.

It doesn't get a 1-4 seed, nor a bye.

What it gets is 1) indy status cemented, 2) no CCG game (so wash w/bye), 3) great shot at one of six at large playoff slots, (see #1) and 4) a great shot at home playoff games in December most years.

Its a way better deal than ND has regarding the playoffs right now.

Are the first two rounds played at the higher seeded teams home field?

Nothing is final yet. But the proposal set forth has the first round of the 5-12 matchups played at the higher seed home. Quarterfinals, semifinals and finals at bowl sites.

If ine thing would change, I would say the quarterfinals need to be switched to home of 1-4 seeds, not a neutral bowl site. Kind of fs the 1-4 seed and the teams fans that go to finals would have to travel likely 3 weeks in a row to see their teams.

Unless you are a highly ranked team making the playoffs but didn't play in you ccg, nd is playing same amount of games.

A 9-3 Independent Notre Dame team will make the playoffs and have a chance at hosting a home game, if they win 10 or more they’ll be guaranteed a home game. In a conference they’d have to play someone like Clemson or Ohio State in a championship game, a loss would knock the out of the playoff unless they have 11 or 12 wins.

A 9-3 ND is either going to be left out or playing on the road.

Join the ACC or deal with it. Their AD said playing that extra game replaces having to play a conference championship game. Makes sense.

A 3 loss ND team will NEVER make the playoffs. Not in a million years

I doubt a 3 loss ND team would be ranked high enough to be included.

A ND home playoff game will more than likely generate more NBC TV money for ND. They are very happy with having to play an extra home playoff game.

The current proposal has the bye teams playing at a neutral site in the next round.

They don’t care. There are more at large spots for programs like them who still think they’re elite but haven’t won anything in 40 yrs to maybe get a home game for their weirdo fans and media to slobber over.

Espn would probably air it as they'd probably reup the rights to the playoff

What happens to Noter Dame when (if) the conference championship games are eliminated?
Don't think they will be eliminated. They make a lot of money for the conference. What I can see eliminated are divisions if the power 5 sign off on changing the current division rules

It won't be long before teams 1-4 are crying that they're losing out on home game revenues, unless there is some agreement where the money is getting split up.

The first 4 teams should receive a bye and a home game. There will be more incentive for playing a tougher non conference schedule and making the regular season more meaningful.

Take the stupid bowls out and let the teams earn home field. A home playoff game would be off the charts!
that's my biggest take away from this, as a fan. home playoff games. should be great. would love to see even the second round have the higher seed host it and just do the NC game at a neutral site..

All of that would have to be negotiated, including NBC's rights to ND home games.

The playoffs are a separate entity and outside of the scope of nds NBC deal.

But you are correct that it could go to the open market and multiple networks could buy in. But my guess is espn will strike a deal during before their exclusive window closes on the current deal.

so if ND gets a home playoff game, that doesnt go to NBC?

A 9-3 Notre Dame team will get in over most P5 schools who are 10-2, remember this is college football so it doesn't have to make sense or be fair. Notre Dame brings in eyeballs and the Irish along with schools like Alabama, Ohio State and Texas will get in as an at-large with 3 losses.

a 3 loss ND team is still probably better than a 10-2 P5 team based on the schedule. not an ND Fan by any stretch here but take into consideration the schedules. a P5 team seems to always have the FCS exhibition rent-a-win and sometimes even 2, or if not, some garbage low level d1 games (like pitt this year that has two)..

ND has 9 P5 games this year and their 3 non p5 games are navy, toledo and CIncy. that's a bad-azz schedule.. so a 9-3 year for them will very likely be much more impressive than any other P5 team going 10-2 IMO. the fact that they dont play these silly fcs games while everyone else does should be commended, or at least acknowledged.

OK, im done with the irish support, i am starting to sound like a fan.

Seems to me this benefits, the Domers. No question.
yeah, im missing something cause i think so too. they are in good shape and dont have to play a conference championship game. i get it, they cant get a top 1- 4 seed but other than that, they are sitting very pretty with this new proposal and will find themselves in the playoffs more often than not.

people are reaching here bigtime, looking for anything that will force nd into joining the ACC and just like every other time before, this isnt it.

Every game until the Championship should be at the higher seeds stadium. This new setup more than anyone else, except for the AAC, benefits schools like Penn State and Florida who on a pretty consistent basis lose just enough games to miss the playoffs but still get a NY6 bowl appearance.

These 12 teams are essentially replacing the New Year's 6 Bowl 12 teams. How many 3 loss teams have gotten at-large NY6 bowl games?
