it's slow.
we're in a gray area with PN. he's not like jamie who had ardent supporters due to years of success. but he has his supporters in the fan base. he's also not in kevin stallings land, which no one will ever reach that level ever again.
so where would you put the betting line of how long PN is at pitt? i would put it at november (whatever our last game is) 2019. i think he has this year for sure, regardless of what happens. but back to back 5-7 seasons (or whatever), and he's out.
data points that may affect this:
1. wins (obviously)
2. injuries
3. player behavior
(my) reasons for concern:
1. defense sucks. supposed to be a defensive guy but they stink. i know about the personnel issue. i get it. but they stink and it has to improve.
2. hiring a position coach as DC. mind boggling decision. with the investment in other areas of the athletic administration, i'm sure we had money to do better. matt house-esque. again, maybe PN is a defensive genius and knows this guy can get it done.
3. recruiting is, at best, mediocre. frankly, it's not good enough.
there are positives as well. this isn't doom and gloom. but my point is i think he needs to make some moves this year and next to keep his job. and i don't think that means 10 win seasons but 8+ is a reasonable expectation.
