I’m not shocked; I knew there would be some blowback, since there are some posters who spent a lot of time there. And yes, there’s been political talk there for a long time, but it seems like the last year or so has taken a turn and become something different from civil discussion. This wasn’t a sudden decision; it was one I had been mulling for quite some time. Ultimately it came down to the amount of heavy-handed moderation that board - in its most recent incarnation - merited. Oftentimes when I went onto the board, there were things that needed to be deleted but they were so buried in the threads that I would end up killing whole threads.

Short of bringing in mods who were exclusively dedicated to watching that board, it seemed like the best solution, given the circumstances, was to eliminate the board itself. As always, I appreciate and invite comments and suggestions regarding board moderation.

Being a mod can’t be that tough Chris. Suggesting you need a mod for one board is complete nonsense and you know it. What should have been done was a warning that if the board didn’t turn more civil, it would be deleted. You gave the posters 0 warning and just deleted it. Of all the options you had, you picked the nuclear one.
You know what? That’s a fair response. I didn’t give any warning; even though i had been thinking about it for awhile, I didn’t communicate that to the board. Even when we ban someone from posting, we usually give a warning - I didn’t do that in this instance.

I do appreciate the constructive feedback that’s been offered in this thread. I’ll take it under consideration.

Yeah the locker room was more risque than stalking high school kids because they can dribble well or run really fast in shorts. Learning about recruits here and then creeping on their twitters is really cool.

The locker room was mostly fine. Sure there were occasional times someone stepped over the line. But that happens everywhere on every board. We are all big boys and knew what we were going there for. Nether lefties or righties were exempt. And if you didn’t like it, no one forced you inside.

I will miss my pals who I disagreed with daily. @JGregor , @pittman71 , @pittguy81, @SoufOaklin4Life , @HOF Coach , @TempleBAPittMPA , just to name a few ...see you all around,

And I won’t be around panthelair as much. Fast 40 times from 16 year olds don’t excite me.

I understand people's desire to discuss politics....I like it too. But I go to pantherlair for pitt athletics...not the latest alt right conspiracy about the main stream media. If people want to talk politics exclusively, exchange emails and go to Facebook or 4chan or wherever...there were many threads that made me cringe because they were oozing with racism and various dog whistles. I am not going to miss it and I applaud peak for getting rid of it. It had a bad look and flavor

It was not the most active board, not by a long shot. And I’m not being arrogant; I was just curious what people thought the underlying motivation was.

Well, that’s what we’re trying to gauge from you. Your response is “you don’t want political talk” but there’s been political talk for at least 9 years and all of a sudden it’s not acceptable.

Essentially your answers have been “well it’s my board so this is what I’m going to do.” Which is your prerogative but don’t act shocked when people question that approach.

Not sure what was so hard to understand for some of you. The board was a cesspool with a lot of racialist overtones. As I said, there are plenty of other alt-right message boards out there. Having such a message board semi-affiliated with Pitt athletics is wrong. I am not sure any other Rivals site has a message board where over 90% of the threads relate to politics.

Quite a few times awhile ago I kept trying to log into the Locker Room and thought there was something wrong. I hadn't been there in perhaps over a week having been in Pittsburgh with family. Not sure what happened.

Apparently to many complaints. I can tell you that I never complained once to Peak in the nine years I have been a member. I feel that all of us sharpened our views and thinking with those who offered a different view.

Perhaps a new Forum will open?
Agree, @JGregor. We’ve all taken our lumps in there. And lately you have more than anyone given your clinging to the fictitious collusion like a Jedi clings to the force. For you to say what you just said is a strong case to be made in support of the LR. Kudos.

How fascist of you! Given you’re the only one with that opinion who frequented the board, I’d say you’re in a very small minority. There were plenty of board lefties in there daily who spewed plenty of left wing stuff. And they seem to all be disappointed today.

And remember, if everything is racist, then nothing is racist. Think about that for a few moments.

Just curious what do you consider to be "alt-right". Seems to me your definition is anyone who disagrees with your point of view. And while there were a few people with clearly racist comments that was the exception rather than the rule. Heck you have that on this board with people who rip Tomlin.

It was mostly harmless fun and a place to talk politics without pissing off your family and friends. There you could piss off strangers. I assumed a counterpoint role so that there wasn't 7 guys agreeing with each other in every thread. It was fun being the WWE villain guy.

For a variety of reasons, we made the decision to eliminate the Locker Room board earlier today. That board served as a destination for truly off-topic posts, but its removal should not be misconstrued as an opening for the threads that populated that board to be posted here.

Ultimately, this site is dedicated to coverage of and discussion about Pitt sports. There are times when the discussions will veer away from that general topic and we understand that Pitt fans have interests in other topics - like other Pittsburgh sports - so we will attempt to be reasonable in what is permitted and what is not.

But at this point in time, we are not going to have political posts on these boards. Those threads will be deleted.

As always, our moderation policies will be flexible, and we welcome suggestions/comments regarding those policies. Thanks for your consideration on this matter, and thanks for making these boards the best place to discuss Pitt sports.

I think I need to say something....... So......No, maybe I will sing about it. Or maybe I will let this guy do it for me. The great Gordon Sumner please take it away.....

Actually, I asked a question over there would you rather have a Pitt fan neighbor who was a Democrat or a Penn State fan neighbor who was a Republican. Everyone who answered went with the PSU Republican. The folks over there are Republican fanboys more than anything. There are some, like NCPitt, who I don't remember ever seeing him post on a Pitt sports board.

Im there pretty much everyday since 1/2017 and i recall no such post.
I think this is a bullshit scenario trying to make a point.

Like on Twitter when people say things like,
*my 9 year old asked me today why grown adults are wearing pink hats depicting female genitalia. I told him, son,i often wonder the same thing*

A staged prop or scenario.

There were maybe 7-8 "lefties" and they were outnumbered probably 5-1 or 10-1 which is a disproportionate ratio to Pitt fans in general. A few months ago, I counted the threads started by each group and like 14 of the top 15 were righty threads. I remember being surprised when someone put up a "who are you voting for" post and it was like Trump 51, Clinton 49. I expected it to be like 80/20 given the traffic but I theorize that righties are more "loyal" and "committed" to their cause. Its morning radio, Hannity on the way home, Fox News at night and Internet boards in between. Its a lifestyle. Dems, probably to a fault, have other things to occupy their time. Sometimes they show up and vote, sometimes not. But they arent as devoted

No way. I despise all of you white guilt, I am sorry for having balls, tranvestite enabling, dress my 3 year old son in a dress, American hating libs but even I would prefer a pitt Democrat neighbor over a psu conservative as a neighbor

Just a few nuggets for you:

•The locker room goes in cycles. Not sure what triggers it, but it wasn’t so long ago that the lefties far outnumbered the righties. Before it was taken down, I’d say the regular posters were about 15 cons to about 10 libs. Liberal participation right now is lower than it was in October 2016...for obvious reasons. Many went away. But they would have been back. The locker room is cyclical just like who holds power in DC is cyclical.

•just because there are conservatives over there, it doesn’t make them alt-right, whatever that means. It just makes them right of you. And there’s nothing wrong with that, unless you’re intolerant of those who don’t think like you.

• Based on your numbers, you’re saying there are as many as 80 cons over there. That’s warped.

• there are a few libs over there whose m.o. is to not start threads and just lurk and attempt to tear down conservatives. And there are many cons who enjoy starting threads. Using the rationale as to who starts threads to arrive at opinions is quite unscientific and unconventional. But people are used to that type of thing from you.

And lets be real.

For the longest stretch until i went on my world jaunt and HOF Coach picked up the pace, i was easily singlehandedly out thread starting the lefties myself.

The number of posters had zero to do with it.
Then add in everyone else like you,bb80, and the like and you get the point.

No cycle

The locker room has always been majority conservative -
Only difference is the reasonable and logical folks like joe, bandie, and even paco back in the day-
Have been replaced with right wing posters who post non stop.

Find a new hobby or a new place to argue politics .

Lots of anguish over a free message board

Really? Everyone? Did I? More lies and generalizations. You are just as guilty and deceiving as those you decry. You are almost a caricature of yourself. To be honest, I could care less on either accounts if they are good people.

@SMF, if you think it is hard for me to understand I suggest you take some reading comprehension courses. I questioned the lack of reasoning for the decision not the decision itself. You must have interpreted my post the same way you digest what you hear on the news in that you only pay attention to what suits your agenda.

Hey, I am "unprincipled" according to some righties because I don't agree with all things Trump and right. So I guess we need some room for middle of the road, unprincipled moderates, because at the end of the day, I think there are probably more of us than any others.
