I’m taking my two sons today—6 and 4—to their first wrestling match. They’re pumped. Anyone able to give a scout report of Oklahoma?

Dear Lord. Need to make up two points with less than a minute left and get tagged for a stall point.
Not sure why we got dinged there anyway. OU kid was laying flat

On another note, why does he keep putting his hand up like something's wrong. Just wrestle. Keeps looking at KG like there's nothing he can do

Honestly, the full starting lineup isn't bad. 125 is a weakness, but Forys and Zanetta are tough, and Lee can be competitive.

Rahmani is tough, Wentzel has a lot to learn but is a good prospect with a high ceiling.

Bell isn't good now and that makes 174 a weakness. He strikes me as the type of wrestler that was bigger and stronger than most kids in HS and dominated by overpowering opponents. Can't do that at this level and I think he is finding that out.

Harvey is like Wentzel in that you can see a lot of talent and skill, but he has to learn to put it all together at this level. Going to be a good one, I think.

Stout is a disappointment. Doesn't seem to have much confidence.

Solomon is a really solid anchor.

Just have to keep these guys healthy. I think they'll be competitive in league

Stout is undersized and weak for 197. Needs to grow into weight. Only weighs 195. Could go at 184, but Bonacorsi will be at 184 next year. Bell also undersized, but nowhere to go.
Team looked better today with much better fight from most of the wrestlers.

It was against Oklahoma but yeah that sounds right. I guess I didn't realize that rule

Yeah - I know it was against OK, but I didn't see the match. A few years ago it became stalling when the top guy would drop to the legs of the bottom guy and hold on (which happened a lot when a guy would stand up) - the ref counts to 5 - if you haven't worked back up above the waist then you get hit for stalling - which is one of the things that happened to Wilps in the national finals a few years back.

That makes sense. Thanks for the explanation!

I would bet Gavin and Co preached getting your head up from bottom and wrestling is a fight. I saw a lot more of both this afternoon. A big improvement from the last four matches or so. Forys and Solomon have always been aggressive but hopefully we just witnessed the light bulb going on for the young guys.

Harvey's match was the match of the night in my opinion. His technique was a little sloppy but the attitude was exactly what was needed for this team right now. He wore his guy out and that guy is not going to want to wrestle him next time they meet up. I hope his teammates were taking notes.

Rahmani may have only won by a point but this match was a nice step in the right direction for him. He always keeps pretty good position but put more pressure on his opponent from the neutral position this time. He even forced a stalling call. If he keeps that up, with his talent, it's going to pay off down the road.

Wentzel and Bell definitely have potential but need to understand in college, one is not likely to be successful from their feet, unless their shot follows a set up or is a re-shot. (and the Kyle Dake pose is not worth any points!!). They need to watch Forys films as much as they watch their own.

Was our guy down on the leg from the top position? Thats usually a 5-count then stall call if you don't work back up.
Lee was in on a takedown near edge of mat, they went out of bounds and the ref called Lee for fleeing the mat. I was sitting 10 feet from the ref.

I was talking about the other one during the match where the ref did the 5 count. It might have been the warning before the fleeing the mat point

bye the way...
having watched a couple of other ACC matches recently, that particular referee leaves a lot to be desired. He was not nearly as bad tonight as I have witnessed.

I am not a referee and never have been one, but fleeing the mat is not in the folk style rule book. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can explain this new phenomenon.

There is a new stalling rule in college putting the onus on the wrestlers to stay inbounds - you can’t simply ride the line anymore and if you end up out - oh well. If the red thinks you coulda controlled the action to bring it back in but didn’t - you’re getting called.
