OT: Best Consecutive Album Releases?

Just scrolled through this. I am dissapointed. You are commenting on whether chocolate chip or neapolitan is better. Occasionally someone says rocky road. Broaden your taste. I don't care who you like if you dig deeper than the what you are fed.

Is it van Morrison who sings with his back to the audience due to nerves? Or maybe Jackson Browne? My favorite artist to that thought was Natalie Merchant.
Sia?

Don't know that answer to this one. I've seen video of Van Morrison and Jackson Browne and they are facing forward for sure.

License to ill and Paul’s Boutique by the Beastie Boys. I’d even toss in Check Your Head and Ill Communication.

Love, Electric and Sonic Temple by The Cult

Nothings Shocking & Ritual de lo Habitual by Janes Addiction

And IMO, one of the most underrated artists of all time, Declaration and Strength by The Alarm.

And finally, every single album by Oingo Boingo.

Beasties are a GREAT call.

I'm not going to back you on the Alarm though. Very bloated IMO!!

For some reason however, it reminds me of Stoneage Romeos and Mars Needs Guitar by Hoodoo Gurus.

And while we are down under, let's toss in Red Sails in the Sunset followed by Diesel and Dust by Midnight Oil and Nonagon Infinity and Flying Microtonal Banana by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.

I'm really enjoying this thread and more keep coming to me.

Bryter Layter followed by Pink Moon by Nick Drake
The Velvet Underground and Nico followed by White Light / White Heat by the Velvet Underground
Pet Sounds followed by Smiley Smile by the Beach Boys
Pretenders followed by Pretenders II by the Pretenders
Funeral followed by Neon Bible by Arcade Fire
#1 Record followed by Radio City (or Third/Sister Lovers depending on your taste) by Big Star
Unknown Pleasures followed by Closer by Joy Division
Stankonia followed by Speakerboxx/The Love Below by Outkast

Blue Sky Mine was also a great album. It actually might be my favorite of theirs. The Forgotten Years is fantastic. Still sounds as fresh today as it did then.

Excellent call on the beasties. They got better with age.

Since the OP asked for 2 Great Consecutive Albums, I will stick to that(or 3 Consecutive Albums in some cases) in my list below, but certainly a few Music Artists have released 4-6 Great Consecutive Albums, including Stevie Wonder 5 Albums from 1972-1976, Roxy Music First 5 Albums from 1972-1975, which were more Art-Rock compared to their Final 3 Albums, The Brothers Johnson First 5 Albums from 1976-1981, Slave First 6 Albums from 1977-1981, Magazine First 4 Albums from 1978-1981, The Cars First 4 Albums from 1978-1981, The Police last 4 Albums from 1979-1983, The Gap Band 5 Albums from 1979-1985, Echo & The Bunnymen First 4 Albums from 1980-1984, Siouxsie & The Banshees 6 Albums from 1980-1986, Public Enemy First 4 Albums from 1987-1991, Red Hot Chili Peppers 6 Albums from 1989-2006, Doves 5 Albums(Their Entire Discography so far with their First 4 Albums released 2000-2009 then after a long break, they reunited for The Universal Want Album released in 2019), Elbow First 4 Albums from 2001-2008, Suede Last 4 Albums from 2013-2022 after they reunited, which is close to their First 3 Albums from the 1990s, Spiritualized First 4 Albums from 1992-2001, MUSE First 4 Albums from 1999-2006(MUSE has been the Best Live Rock Band the past 23 Years), Fleetwood Mac 5 Albums from 1975-1987, Joe Jackson 5 Albums(not including Soundtracks) from 1982-1991, Porcupine Tree 5 Albums from 1993-2000, Miles Davis 8 Albums from 1968-1972(a mix of his 2nd Quartet Later 4 Albums with his Fusion 4 Essential Albums) and Peter Gabriel 6 Albums from 1980-2002(I am including the Passion Soundtrack, which I think is as great as 3-Melt, but have not spent enough time yet with I/O to determine how great I think it is, despite having listened to each Song released every Full Moon last year, as I wanted to get familiar with them prior to seeing his Tour Stop in Philly last September, which meant I missed the The Backyard Brawl, that was played that same nite, but watched it 2:00AM as had it recorded).

Talking Heads-Their Entire Discography from 1977-1988.
The Smiths-Their Entire Discography from 1984-1987

I also wanted to mention That the SDE Exclusive BluRay(with Atmos & 5.1 Remixes) Release of Tubular Bells had me discovering the Music of Mike Oldfield, as I had not even heard Tubular Bells before streaming it last year when deciding to buy the SDE BluRay as loved the Music. I also bought the 50th Anniversary CD and the Japan SHM CD think was from around 2013/2014 and utilized the Original UK Tapes for the Mastering. So, I have been doing a deep dive on most of his Albums, at least up through Crises(1983) and Return to Ommadawn(2017), although several of his fans rank Amarok(1990) & Tubular Bells-II(1992) as really Good Albums, so I plan to stream them soon.. I think I would at least rank his First 4 Albums(Tubular Bells, Hergest Ridge, Ommadawn & Incantations) as Great Albums, so will add him to Music Artists above with at least 4 Consecutive Great Albums.

A few people here mentioned The CURE, and I saw them last Summer, when they played several New Songs from a yet Unreleased Album, but I was able to get familiar with them first watching Earlier Tour Stops, which were uploaded on YouTube and get the Setlist from the SetlistFM Website. Anyways, a few Consecutive CURE Albums make my list.

I will attempt to list my Pair of Albums generally from Oldest to more Recent Releases, except when having multiple listings for a few Music Artists, but I am not good on knowing specific years of release during the 1960 & 1970s, so might be off a little on the correct order for earlier years.

Also, I love P-FUNk(all related Albums, which I own over 55 CDs), but every Album has a few Weak Songs, so do not consider their Albums Great overall, yet essential in my CD Collection because they still consist of at least 60%-80% of Great Songs. Same problem for Pink Floyd, although I prefer their Earlier Psychedelic-Rock & Space-Rock Songs, like the 4 Live Songs on Ummagumma. Also, I think Elton John had 3 Great Albums(Self Titled bring my Favorite, and Madman Across the Water & Captain Fantastic), but there were other Albums released in between those 3 I mentioned.
I have several David Bowie from 1970-1980 listed below, although some of my Favorite Bowie Albums are from 1993-2016, but just not consecutive(the First Bowie Album I bought was Black Tie, White Noise in 1993, which by coincidence was the year when Suede released their Debut Album, which was similar to the Bowie Glam-Rock Early 1970s Music).

Also, for Motown and James Brown, Box Sets are better way to hear their Music, although James Brown has several Great 2 CDs Sets for his Singles and a few Great Live Albums, especially Love Power Peace. There was a Great 4 Part Documentary on the A & E Network on James Brown that came out around February 20 this year, and is excellent.

Since, I mentioned above a Few Music Artists with 4-6 Great Consecutive Albums, I am not including them below, but those Albums do rank among my Favorite Ones.

After Bathing at Baxter’s & Crown of Creation-Jefferson Airplane

Faith & Listen Without Prejudice Volume 1-George Michael
Psychocandy & Darklands-The Jesus & Mary Chain
The Perfect Prescription & Playing with Fire-Spacemen 3
Nothing’s Shocking, Ritual de lo Habitual & Strays-Jane’s Addiction

I need to post this list and come back soon to add 2 Consecutive Great Albums from the 1990s and Post 2000s, as there are a lot of them in my CD Collection(although recently started buying Vinyl for certain Albums depending on who Mastered them and the Pressing Quality). The 1990s has the Largest Number of my Favorite Albums especially Rock from UK Music Artists and Hip-Hop from US Music Artists.

Just scrolled through this. I am dissapointed. You are commenting on whether chocolate chip or neapolitan is better. Occasionally someone says rocky road. Broaden your taste. I don't care who you like if you dig deeper than the what you are fed.

Plenty of good responses possible. No one has exited the highway to find gems. Yes a lot of what was mentioned was good, but nothing beyond WB or Epic etc.
Highway 61 Revisited and Blonde on Blonde

I see it as the opposite. A lot of good candidates, but best ever?! No way on some of these, haha. But that's just my opinion, and the subjectivity element with music is pretty cool.

Is it van Morrison who sings with his back to the audience due to nerves? Or maybe Jackson Browne? My favorite artist to that thought was Natalie Merchant.
I've seen both, and neither turned their back. Doesn't mean they couldn't have done it at other times.

I was at a Carly Simon concert when she had a severe case of stage fright and invited eight audience members to come up on stage to form a circle holding hands and sing with her. She said it made her feel more comfortable.

At Rod Stewart's first show with the Jeff Beck Group he sang from behind the amplifiers for the first couple of songs due to stage fright.

Miles Davis used to play with his back to the audience, but I think they was more arrogance than stage fright.

Yes. Exactly. And I’ve seen Natalie merchant and she was fine. But I did hear that was the case earlier in her career.
