Yes that franchise is an utter disgrace. An owner who doesn't care, his cheapness permeates the whole sorry organization.
From 98 wins just 6 short years ago to a laughingstock and embarrassment this season, last season, etc... Bob Nutting took that 98 win team and dismantled it. Didn't add payroll at all. Now next season in 2022 Bob has exactly $0 committed in contracts. Think about that, $0. Sure he'll have to pay some to Reynolds in his first year of arbitration but in terms of contracts and payroll allocated its $0. A few media guys mentioned that yesterday. How absolutely pathetic. Add to that the awful mgr in Shelton, the pitching coach Oscar Marin who had made absolutely nobody better, horrible 3rd base coach Joey Cora, Rick Eckstein the hitting coach already fired last month and you see how awful this organization truly is.
So expect more of the same for years to come. Nutting loves having another "rebuild" because he doesn't have to spend any money. And then in 2025 when the Pirates are supposedly ready to "compete" and a they have hopefully a bunch of minor league studs ready to play in the majors, Nutting will then claim he doesn't need to spend money in free agency because of how great his farm system is. Wait and see.
