OT - Fleury to start Game #1 of the Playoffs tonight ......

barrasso was named the best goalie in the league once, 2nd best once, two cups where he was actually the goalie both times, rookie of the year too

i honestly don't know if barasso played in the olympics and earned that silver, don't care either way his medal was earned as much as fleury's because i know fleury didn't play

again focus on the italian hall of fame to prove your point all you want, barasso had the better career
Then how are you making arguments for him and posting those things as accomplishments of his? You just admitted you don't have a freaking clue what you are talking about.

barrasso played one game in the olympics, which he won

fleury played ZERO, where his team won the gold

how's that for having a clue? maybe you should look things up yourself rather than just going out of your way to disagree with me

You had to look that up, after you admitted you didn't know. I already knew that. Neither contributed (I believe the game was a blowout over Belarus, or some place similar, who had absolutely no chance of winning) to their medal, but were lucky to be backups on great teams.

I'm still glad he's on our roster.
He simply stole that game in the third tonight

He was great. I mean great. Best game I seen him play in many years, considering the circumstances. What a clutch performance and hopes this shuts some people up.

Good for him. Good guy. Love to see him win it. What a great story that would be.

Now Bradly will blame Flower for the game 3 loss because the Pens were only able to score when he was on the bench.

Marc Andre Fleury in Game 7's on the road. 3-0. 1.00 GAA. .960 save percentage. HOW DO YOU LIKE ME NOW????

He was terrific. And while I am certainly not a MAF hater like some, I am stunned at how he is playing. Being realistic, I did not see this level of play coming. He faltered in prior seasons in the playoffs and seemed to be an emotion wreck when it came to that.

He is the biggest reason the Pens have eliminated the Caps. In saying that, the team played a fantastic game last night in front of him. The combo of his stellar play in Game 7 and the Teams stellar play in front of him was a thing of beauty.

One other thing... Sullivan is an absolute fantastic coach. He might be my favorite Pgh coach that I can remember in a long time across all teams. He does a great job of not only the X and Os but also motivating his team.

Without Fleury the Pens are golfing on Saturday, but I'm sure the Hockey "expert" bradlypitt will have a reason why the Flower did not have a hand in the win. Thank you Rutherford for not trading Fleury.

I posted something similar in another thread, but what I especially liked about last night's game was how the Pens played in the 3rd-period. After seeing how the Caps played in the 2nd-period, I expected them to come-out of the locker room breathing smoke 'n fire. But the Pens somehow, some way, took the life out of the Caps' attack.

And the final 3-minutes were a work of art: they kept controlling and dumping the puck into the Caps' zone, thus minimizing the chances for the Caps to insert the extra attacker. In essence, the Pens de-clawed what had been a powerful Washington offense.

I think what you saw in the third period was a result of the Caps being down 2 goals, and needing to take chances to generate offense.
Their defense men were joining the rush, and the Pens anticipated this and pounced on it.
Look how man odd man rushes the Pens generated in the third. It was amazing they didn't score, and that was because Holtby played well.

What a difference from game 6! It is almost stunning that a team that played so horribly could play such a good game with such a short turnaround time.

Clearly the players were motivated and the coach handled the situation perfectly, and of course Fluery.
He had a couple of lucky breaks with Caps missing chip shots into empty nets, hitting the post, and the miracle save on Ovechkin, but he was where he needed to be and got the shutout.

Now on to the Senators. It is kind of scary, but if they need a game 7 it will be in Pittsburgh! Maybe they can swing a deal and concede home ice?

Agree, the whole game was a beauty to watch. As you said, instead of sitting back in the 3rd the Pens just kept coming at them and at them and in the final few minutes did a great job of keeping the Caps on their heels.

1.PENS will beat bad teams
2.PENS will beat most good skating teams with limited Goon power
3.PENS will beat good skating teams with Goons who can't skate
oh no
4.PENS Kryptonite = good skating teams with Goons/Hitters who can also skate and play hockey i.e. Caps Wilson

We were worried after game #6 that the Caps had put together # 4 which is the one combination that will give the PENS a lot of trouble.

I don't care whether or not MAF or Barrasso get in the HOF...I do know that he is, by far, the MVP of this playoff run right now.

that is true, fleury has saved the pens this year and is their mvp so far in the playoffs

though the fact still remains fleury was the weak link in the playoffs from 2010 - 2013 and rutherford tried to trade him and there were no takers, this does not change the past

flattering to know you guys immediately think of me after every game fleury plays well LOL

Yeah, I don't think this is a provable fact.

"I never changed my position from the start of camp. I never wavered on it," Rutherford said. "I had some calls during the season asking about him. Those conversations didn't go very far."

So teams asked about Fleury? I call BS on Rutherford because BradlyPitt says differently!!!

That's what Rutherford has said, some fans have claimed "they tried to trade fleury but couldn't." Yes Rutherford could've obviously stretched the truth to make himself sound better and not make fleury think they wanted to get rid of him, but I would have to believe the word of the gm over the word of a small percentage fans, none of which have any inside connections to the organization and could actually prove what the penguins did or didn't try to do.

Add in the words of insiders like Bob McKenzie etc who at the most said, Rutherford was willing to field calls for Fleury, never that Rutherford was making calls trying to find a partner for MAF.

I don't think so. For one, Barrasso also let in two horrific goals that likely cost the Pens cups in 1993 and 1996. If you are going to blame MAF for 2010 and 2012 well....

he still has two cups, one more than fleury

one vezina, fleury never even close to being nominated let alone winning

and was barrasso ever benched for the playoffs?

as i have said all along you cannot trust fleury, the coach doesn't and i don't think his teammates do either

he looked great against columbus and washington, but is too inconsistent which is why sullivan pulled him, murray is rock solid and nobody goes into games thinking he could be the sole reason they lose

you guys will have to find another nice guy athlete to overrate next year

your hero is on the bench where he belongs

i have been vindicated, be a man and admit it

Will you be a man and admit the Pens wouldn't be in the final season were it not for Fleury's performance through the entirety of the playoffs?

How have you been vindicated? Everyone knew Murray would play when he was healthy and MAF lost a game. It wasn't a surprise.

Murray won't make the Italian American Happ of Fame either, so put him behind Tommy B, too.
