OT: Halftime

Nothing was bleeped
He changed the lyrics

It’s okay .

He didn't change most of them. He kind of like screeched instead of saying the swear word. And I would agree that it took away from the show. And this is my huge problem with rap. Listen, I am a casual fan of rap. But the swearing and lyrics are so vulgar that you can't sing along with a straight conscious and the lyrics are awful for kids. Rap is insanely popular with suburban white kids but every other word is a word they shouldn't be saying.

I am also a fan of Kendrick's discography but IMO, the half time show was a little too artistic for me. To me, the Super Bowl should be more of a fun and party type vibe.

Also, again just my personal opinion, but I don't think there is a male in the world that could pull off making those jeans cool.
This. Seems like everyone who didn’t like it is being labeled “old” or “racist”. I just think it didn’t fit the bill. It’s nothing against Lamar, or hip hop. I think he was part of the show a few years ago with Snoop, Dre, Eminem, etc and that was one of the best I can recall. It had hip hop but it was up beat, fun, and the songs had wide appeal. Lamar is a star to rap fans, but niche by comparison to that lineup.

I mean, country fans would probably say this about mumble rap fans (and vice versa), as would hard rock fans about pop music fans, and people who like classical music about all the aforementioned. This isn't much of a barometer as to how suited a performer is to play a half time show or how successful it would be.
i saw a hilarious tweet a few days ago. some black dude posts, "White people complaining about the haltfime show cant understand the words, then go listen to pearl jam."

something to that effect and it was funny and true.

my teenaged daughter, was picking her up from work yesterday with my buddy. he asks her about kendrick lamar and she says "i love him." two minutes later she asks me if im buying her George Strait and Stapleton tickets. i tell her, You dont know one song George Strait sings and she immediately rattles off like 6 songs..

I was shocked..

I get what you are saying, but honestly, you put that many people together and there are going to be problems. I don't go to Steeler games often, but the last time I went to a night game it was a total shit show outside and not that much better inside. One of the few exceptions was the Rolling Stones concert a few years back. Of course that was still while Covid was strong. But also, everyone was too stoned to cause problems. :)
The Stones' fans are geriatric with good taste. I also like Arthur Prysock, Dire Straights, The Band and Ray Charles.

I saw Antonio Brown’s interview on Theo Vaughn podcast the other day. Man what a difficult thing to try and sit through. Lol. But anyways, they were talking about Ray Charles’ stories about Elvis stealing his music from some random black guy in Memphis. I tend to believe ray Charles.

I haven’t been in the mainstream for years. Always liked to go against the grain. Not a rap fan, so I didn’t watch. If the “Talking Heads” were the halftime show. I’d watch.
That’s why they make chocolate and vanilla ice cream.
Choose what you like…..

You’re shocked to learn Apple Music and Spotify exists ?

Stapleton is probably the only modern “country “ guy I think is good - mostly because he’s playing soul.

Talk about two absolutely brain cooked dudes .

But of course all the old rock and roll guys stole music from ray, little Richard , etc .
At least now there is some legal recourse .

honestly , The Roots would be a great halftime show .
They put on amazing live performances (seen them a few times )

People would still call it terrible - Just like they did with Beyoncé , usher, Bruno , etc
I find the Weekend’s music boring - but thought he put on a good show .

I was talking about the trailer-trash losers who attend the concerts not the actual concerts. They literally think the world is one big trailer for their trash.

I never watch halftime. Grab some food. Hit the bathroom. Grab my phone. Wait for the second half kickoff.
Has never been a top 100 priority with any game.
Even at Pitt games. I went to the club. Walked around. Met with buddies. Had a cocktail.
Halftime entertainment= boring.

my older bro went to the steelers super bowl in detroit, said the same thing about the haltime show. i think it was the stones or something, forget. anyways he told me he loved it because he could take a piss and get a beer at the concession stand with no line and not miss any of the game..

most actual football fans agree with halftime shows. it's a great time to go take a leak and refresh the beer situation before the 3rd party starts. the halftime shows are more meant for the non football fans who are stuck watching the game, the people that get excited for super bowl commercials.

You want exclusively commercials for halftime?!?
super bowl aside, i love how short nfl halftimes are, go get a beer, grab a snack and boom, 3rd quarter. college is brutal, bands and all the nonsense.. but i watch football for the football, not the commercials or the hip hop artist of the day concert,

College halftimes work out well because it takes about 40 minutes for some reason to get food from the Chickie & Pete's. You leave with about 2 minutes to go in the 2nd Quarter, get in line, and you are back in your seats with 13:00 left in the 3rd quarter.

agree with you guys, the super bowl halftime show continues to get bigger every year and is pretty much it's own entity..

It's not going anywhere and i predict that the "tv ratings" record gets broken every year. it makes people (Women and kids) who dont like football, a reason to watch the game.. especially now since the "SB commercial fad" has kind of gone away.
