OT: Halftime

I mean seriously, unless it is really an artist I want to hear, I don't pay attention to SB halftimes as it is a chance to eat, or clean up or whatever (make some drinks) so I didn't pay attention to it. But if it makes anyone feel better I was doing some mad head bobbing to an NWA song that was playing on Sirius earlier in the morning so I got some street cred.

And I’m sure I will get pounded by many of you but even my wife who thinks Lamar is really good said she couldn’t understand most of his words.
That's because the sound mixing was terrible for stereo sound. So if you weren't listening on 5.1 you didn't have a chance.

It’ll be interesting to see who they bring in once the Jay Z arrangement runs out. It’s pretty wild that they haven’t done a country show since the 90s, I think that’d be the obvious next move.
I think you’ll see one- and perhaps they’re even waiting- a few years for when Nashville gets the Super Bowl with their new indoor stadium.

I think Fox did it intentionally- apparently the international feed was better - the YouTube version sound clear
Not a conspiracy- just in case they had to bleep , is what I mean

Big KDot fan but I thought it was just a’ight. It was lacking energy. Now the Pop Out concert from Juneteenth? Inject that sh#t straight into my veins.

Then you’re dumb

He played “humble “ and “DNA”.
He did “MAad city” and” alright “ at the last superbowl .

Now I was hoping he’d do Rigamortis after Not Like Us.
Rigamortis is a top five Kendrick song IMO.

Sure
Clearly you all have given this more thought than I .
Her entire personality is a marketing gimmick
Really? The girl was a gay kid from the Midwest who felt lost. Comes to LA and discovers a world that accepts her and loves her.

She sings a lot of in your face, this is who we are, deal with it songs. Mostly fun pop.

Even though she is a female she adopts the patina of a drag show.

I think k she is trying to have fun with her life and she is bringing along a ton of kids who absolutely adore her whether the kids are gay or straight.

Is she sensitive to the paps and stuff like that? Sure.

She’s not trying to be Gaga. She is laughing at the seriousness of it all.

Her, Sabrina, Charlie, Billie and SZA are just dominating the pop lives of the true market of their music.

Step off old man.

I really like her album. I'm not so concerned about her persona, even if it's just a gimmick.

I think she’s talented, has a really strong stage presence, and is in the unique position of having a debut album and having basically unlimited creative freedom now. I also think her whole creative project is cool, and something that’s a positive and necessary thing to put into the world right now. But with creative freedom means some bumps in the road, and I’m curious to see how she handles it when one of her creative visions doesn’t resonate with people, because it’s going to happen eventually.

I also think she, like many in her generation, gets all of her news and information about national and global affairs from TikTok, which is questionable enough when you aren’t in the public eye, but can be troublesome when you both have a lot of influence and also have no issues talking off the cuff.

She’s good, though. I don’t think it’s an authenticity issue, but more of an artist who blasted onto the scene very suddenly and it’s been a rocky road to adjust to that. The album’s got bangers all the way through, though. She’s earned what she’s gotten.

Listening to her album as an adult reminds me of the first time I screamed out Bowie’s “Wham, bam, thank you m’aam” line with my mom in the same room. As an adult she was a bit shocked to hear the line as I kind of was hearing some of Chappell’s lyrics. But I was shocked and laughing that she had the balls to sing that. lol.

I really like Charli and Billie .

Gaga is an actual ally plus far more talented . Roan is a marketing scheme
by sensitive to her hateful family , you mean actually supports them

I think it’s funny how whatever record label she was signed with was like, “sorry, Pink Pony Club is too gay for us, we’re out.” And her response was “fine! I’ll make my songs twice as gay! And I’ll make the spiritual successor to YMCA that will be played at every sports venue in the country!”

Like, kudos to her for betting on herself, doubling down and having it work. I just wish she would get her news from somewhere that isn’t TikTok.

I personally loved the halftime show. To me Kendrick is a genius and is actually a Pulitzer Prize winner.

The sound was rough and the format was tough for him. And honestly so many of the songs were modified to fit a family friendly broadcast.

Blew me away when the whole stadium sang “A-Minorrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
To me, that was the worse halftime show I have ever seen, it was horrible, bring back the marching bands

I totally agree

Kendrick Lamar's performance drew 133.5-million viewers, making it the most-watched Super Bowl halftime show in history, Fox Sports announced Tuesday. That number breaks the previous record of 133.4-million viewers for Michael Jackson's Super Bowl XXVII halftime performance in 1993.

@Sean Miller Fan I'm guessing you can figure the rest out on your own.

Not sure why you @'d me for.

Anyway, the "A Minor" line is maybe the coldest in the history of music.

"I dont think he ever crossed over into the mainstream like Drake, Eminem, Snoop Dog, Tupac, etc. For example, the only songs I knew of were Be Humble and Not Like Us. For that reason, I didn't think he was big enough to do halftime."

Oh, ok. Yea, that's true. Also, the Super Bowl numbers are inflated due to changed in how Nielsen calculates.

Kendrick Lamar is more of an artist than rapper like Common. Both are brilliant but their songs largely don't crossover into the mainstream which is why there's only 2 that a good portion of America knew.

Wasn’t my cup-o-tea, but my 40ish daughters loved it.
I’m just an old rock n roll dude circa 1970.
Too each their own.

Me too, 1975. Give me some good Queen or Doobie Brothers or Pink Floyd over any of this stuff they're trying to pass off as music today.

Speaking of halftimes....the frisbee dogs at the Pitt-Clemson basketball game last week was pretty good and the highlight of the game.

Yeah, it's mystifying that there is anyone who is perplexed as to why they picked him. It was to put eyes on the screen that otherwise would not be.

The self loathing types who swore the nfl was dead to them who hate watched it for the football wasn't the demo they were going after, it was for the not having a 85 inch LED hi def crowd.
