Interesting. Stanford Hoops Coach Trish Van Devere thinks so. And my god, look at this girl from LSU she focused this on. Folks, I know we preach equality and such...but we also say "follow the science". Biology is a science. People are attracted to attractive people.

But your thoughts? I mean when you get down to it, the biggest female NIL deals are going to female athletes who can essentially be models or movie stars.

You're only being exploited if you're not complicit in the activity. Being attractive is like all other God given gifts. If you've been gifted in that area, you should maximize its potential to enhance your life.

I'm sure what the coach said had more nuance than that headline, but Google a picture of the coach and you might see why she wouldn't be a fan of something like this.

I have no desire to find her full quote because it's not that important to me, but a woman choosing to profit off her looks, voluntarily, does not strike me as demeaning.

This coach sounds jealous. It is an absurd take.

I said early on that attractive D1 female athletes stand to make the most. There is a huge market for 20 something women to pose scantily clad. Really, these athletes are just soft-core porn models who happen to play a D1 sport. And more power to them. People want to see their thong pictures, so have at it.

This leads me to another topic. WTF is the deal with OnlyFans? I don't quite understand the platform. Apparently, some of it is legit like pay a fee to watch your favorite poet. Then a lot of it is pay a fee to watch your favorite porn person. 2 things I am baffled by:

1. In today's world of free porn everywhere, how is this paid subscription porn become a thing?

2. I've read a few articles about Teacher A or Accountant B quitting their jobs to make like $100 million/year on OnlyFans. Are these numbers real? I mean some of these people are said to be making 9 FIGURES? That seems very hard to believe.

What lead me down to this OnlyFans research rabbit hole is a TikTok'er named Daniel Mac whose thing is going up to people in fancy cars and asking them what they do. It would be like half regular rich guy stuff and the other half were OnlyFans girls. Its like, "hey, you're driving a $300,000 car, what do you do?" Half the time its OnlyFans.

Not sure why they would want to make a few million dollars posing when they could wear a pants suit, get a butch cut, and work in STEM fields in an effort to dismantle the patriarch. Now catch those puppies!

I mean I understand the point she is making as it in some ways it can seem like a step back. But you can change human nature. Young, attractive women will always have opportunities due to their looks. Instagram and other platforms have allowed these women to make millions off of this. Right now, I think these are just sporadic cases, but you see stories of women quitting professional jobs to pose on IG or do TikTok videos. The market for them to be on camera in a bikini is greater than working in the corporate world in some cases.

I think she should take a step back. Then turn to the left.

I do find it a little hypocritical for a coach or anyone that makes a living in the sports world to be complaining about female athletes being objectified ... the popularity of all athletes, male and female, is in large part based on objectification. Sports really don't contribute to society or making the world a better place, but we spend a lot of dollars on sports and love to "oooh and aaah" over what athletes are capable of doing.

Sports really don't contribute to society or making the world a better place,... totally disagree.... me thinks that young kids growing up playing sports (even lame sports like soccer) turn out to be better more well rounded disciplined citizens on average. Especially in economically deprived areas.

I agree with that. Sports also have physical benefits to the people that play, which can lead to a healthier society. But I am talking about the professionalization of sports. A lot of money is spent by our society on pro sports. But it's just a game. I'll bring up Joe Mixon again. People were amazed by his accomplishments on Sunday. More kids are probably out there spending mom and dad's hard earned money to buy his jersey this week. But what did his five TDs do to make the world a better place?

What this really is turning into, athletes becoming freakin savvy as hell using the tools that pay. NCAA opened the door, and these athletes are running with it. Some are really good at it and using it to build a brand that is building a business. Good on the athlete for being savvy.

That's just how it is. You can be an extremely stupid dipsh*t with a Youtube channel, getting one million views for your takes, while someone produces a high quality documentary and is lucky to get ten thousands views.

Let people earn the money, and then tax it on the back end to provide more equity for all in areas like healthcare and education.

Thanks. Confirms the fear. Pretty girl. Glad she’s leveraging this effectively. But to me gymnasts are a bit too young looking and thus disturbing to consider in… that way. You could say this girl is 22 or 12 and it would be hard to argue. And I imagine that plays into the appeal of her to a … certain demo. A bit too Joan Benet Ramsay for me though.

But to answer the original question, in this hear me roar society that progressives largely have championed, and I’m sure that coach falls into deeply into that category, they had to know this kind of thing would be inevitable. Be careful what you protest for, you might just get it.

This is basically admitting you have a porn addiction without admitting you have a porn addiction.

You just kind a made the coach's point.

I think the coach's point is relevant in context but it doesn't acknowledge that some athletes are heralded for their ability and others because they just look really good. I can say for certain that my daughter loves Kenny Pickett and wants an expensive #8 game jersey and it has absolutely zero to do with his ability to run an offense.

God bless Ed O'Bannon. He is the true Curt Flood of this whole thing if you guys get the reference.

Statistically and in every other category, playing a musical instrument leads to better grades and a more well-rounded, disciplined individual. Moreso than sports. But I doubt people would spend thousands in Panther Club money to see and support the Pitt Symphony (I doubt there is one) or the Pitt Marching Band in concert. Sports has its place and it can help develop discipline and teamwork in young men and women, depending on the sport. But in the grand scheme, sports contributes little and has little redeeming value to society. It's become too professional now, including collegiate, and the almighty dollar drives it.

A case could be made for sports like swimming and diving, tennis, golf, track and field as being character builders more than football or basketball. But those sports don't generate revenue and that's all that matters now.

You seem to hate football alot. Why are you on here?

Statistically music nerds get beat up a lot more so there is that downside...

But in the grand scheme, sports contributes little and has little redeeming value to society..simply bullschitt....what redeeming value does music add other than to the performer and the consumer of the talent which is exactly like sports?

btw, we were not talking about a comparison to music on society but sports..

No one is making 9 figures from OnlyFans bro. You think someone is being paid 2x Steph Curry to show some butt?

The most successful one that I know of is called Amoranth or something. She's made $27 million total. Which is obviously a lot but it's also gross and across a ton of platforms like Twitch, Youtube, etc. Not just OnlyFans. I saw an article where she bought legit commercial businesses like gas stations, too.

So yeah it can be very profitable but a lot of these girls get in it showing a little bit of skin and then have to keep upping the game and doing more and more in order to grow/maintain their subscribership. You know where that ends up.

To paraphrase Star Wars the dark side is seductive because it's such a quick and easy path to power. A lot of these girls are getting the bag now but they're also spending a lot of it: luxury apartment/cars, plastic surgery, etc. And what's the exit plan? You gonna keep doing OnlyFans into your 30s and 40s? Try to work at Chase Bank with a 10 year gap on your resume? I have to imagine that such work has significant personal consequences as well. Idk, to me it seems fairly unsustainable on the individual level. Some of these girls are definitely killing it though.

Lol. So she’s outraged over this? I had to look this woman up to confirm my immediate feeling, and yep it’s just as I thought, she’s not married. Go figure. Unmarried women voted a certain way by a whopping 73%. I’ll just leave it at that and won’t take any questions. Good day.

That is an absolutely terrible take. That's like saying art, of any kind, doesn't contribute anything to society.

She isn't outraged. I think she feels like someone's athletic abilities should be the primary reason they attract attention to women's sports. I find it to be a bit myopic given the reality of people's motivations. It really isn't much different than Madden crying around about Juju doing TikTok's. These kids are creating a brand and capitalizing on it and some people can't see past the X's and O's.

What does beat up have to do with it? So someone can beat up someone else. It proves nothing other than one person can beat up another and is a dumb s$%t. No value.

I'm just stating facts about the correlation between playing a musical instrument and academic and life success. Sounds like you know nothing about playing a musical instrument, which is fine. We all have our opinions. My opinion is that sports have a negative correlation to success in life, academics, whatever, other than in the sports I mentioned. Nothing is absolute, but it's a general correlation or negative correlation.
