Why in the world would Steelers even consider trying to trade for him?? Especially after what he put the organization through past two years. Don’t they remember how the players felt when he didn’t show after Labor Day like he told them he was going to show.

Art 2 looks like the next Daniel Snyder. Trading picks away like there nothing.

Because we’re playing any able body at this time and he knows the playbook and personnel ?

it was definitely worth an inquiry

I doubt that there was any real chance we traded for him, even if Adam Shefter reported it. In all likelihood, we were simply doing our due diligence and inquired about the asking price.

Also, I don’t have any ill will toward Bell. I think he was simply a victim of bad information from the people around him. He thought he was doing what was best for him, and I think he’d do things over if he had the chance to. Antonio Brown on the other hand...

Ab is a certifiable nut

bell simply listened to the wrong people - it happens

Steelers would never do that when the previous two Rooney’s were running ship. There’s a reason Cowher dissed this Rooney when he walked out. The Steeler way is why they have been so successful. I see signs of moving away from what they have done.

Bell signed the contract that offered him the most guaranteed money. That was what was best for him.

I think it’s easy to forget that Art Rooney II took over Dan’s role in the football operations department while he was the Ambassador to Ireland, so it’s not like this is his first rodeo. One of those four years saw the Steelers make the Super Bowl, along with drafting many key players for the future such as Maurkice Pouncey, David DeCastro, Antonio Brown, and Cam Heyward.

His major decisions so far of letting Le’Veon Bell and Brown walk, along with the Minkah Fitzpatrick trade, seem to be the correct ones. I think many are underestimating his decision-making and doubting him because he’s not Dan Rooney. They’ll be just fine.

Bell could be on the way out of New York after one year. He'd be in his second year with the Steelers heading into a third with zero risk of being cut. With the Jets he would have earned $25 million. He'd be looking at hitting the $45 million mark with the Steelers in 2020.

Then why can't they completely move away from all that crap and fire a head coach too!

He's a 50-50 to be on the Jets next year and a 10:1 against being there in 2021. As I've said all along, he was ignoring the major risks of being cut before he plays out the full length of the contract, in which case he took less with the Jets than here (plus higher COL and taxes).

No chance he sniffs over $10M per year again once he's off the Jets. None. He messed up big time.

Here is an article on what the Steelers offered vs the Jets contract, what is guaranteed in each and what he would earn under each contract ..... see link below .....

I'm not reading this. I've been over it with people on this board too many times. People sound like a broken record regarding the guaranteed $. There's a such thing in life as practically guaranteed - that's why we drive to work even though driving kills tens of thousands of people per year.

The contracts were basically a push if Bell was on the Steelers for 366 days, which was practically guaranteed. The long-term payout was higher on the Steelers, the COL and taxes in Pittsburgh were also lower. Plus he lost $14M by sitting out 2018. Anyone who says "all that matters are the guarantees" at this point is misinformed or has an agenda.

Nope. All that mattered to Bell was the guaranteed money. What agenda could anyone possibly have by saying that?

He lost significantly more than $14 million by not signing the Steelers offer in 2018 and then sitting out 2018 as the linked article explains ......

It would be great if the Steelers had some RB's who are durable.
They seem to be like cars on a used car lot the past two years.

Bell was durable for sure.
The Jets move will be a loser for Bell so he may end up back with the
Steelers at some point.

Would have been nice if the Steelers had a RB that could make the right reads yesterday.

yesterday on the goal line a running back ran up the middle instead of cutting to the outside. Cost Pittsburgh 4 points. Not sure which running back it was

Not checking into it would be cause for concern. The Jets obviously wanted more than the Steelers were willing to give up. And giving away next years first round pick for Minkah was an excellent move. So I am not seeing the Daniel Snyder comparison here. More like a Steeler hater making stuff up just to bitch.

Bell was durable for sure.

2013 - Lisfranc sprain
2013 - Concussion (didn't miss a game)
2014 - Hyperextended Knee
2015 - MCL Tear
2017 - Groin injury (didn't miss any games for it)

2015 & 2016 Drug suspensions

NFL RB's don't seem as durable to me. Conner and Bell are not exceptions. They are the norm. Gone are the days where a team could give the ball to a John Riggins, OJ Anderson or Eric Dickerson 30-plus times, 5-6 times per season and 20-plus times, week after week. These RB's today, all have around 5% body fat, workout for 4 hours every day in the off-season and jump around like ballerinas with the ball in their hands. The human body has limits. You can do whatever you want to muscle mass but ligaments and tendons are the same for these guys as they are for mailmen and cab drivers.
My theory, is that the massive gains made in improving performance, have an inverse impact on injuries related to wear and tear.

or perhaps it’s also because defensive players and likewise bigger , stronger , and faster - so physics is undefeated
