It’s being reported by ESPN. His team this year was good, but wasn’t he on a bit of a hot seat entering the season?

Not sure many NC St fans would be sorry to see him go. I know a few and they don't care for him at all.

BTW, Tennessee is looking like a cluster f*** right now.

The contract extension negotiations have been extremely difficult so far for NC State and him. Many think he is intentionally doing it to get out.

Don't be shocked if he meets with Tennessee to either take it or leverage a big extension. He may just take the Vols job.

BAck around Oct. 10th State and Deoren started negotiations for a new contract.

Gunga, Its about a 60/40 split with their fans, the 60 being in favor.

And before the paranoid posters get started, Narduzzi ain't going to NCST either...

They all wanted him fired last year, and this year they were a dark horse to win the ACC, but finished 8-4. But he won back some goodwill with that.

Probably going to be gone to Tennessee based on Twitter. Seems like Tennessee is going to way overpay for a coach due to this cluster.

He's not much better than Butch Jones...

He is no where near the coach I expected Tennessee to target. Most NCSU fans wanted him gone last year, and many weren't too happy with him before that.

He would never be confused for a salesman. He's a better public speaker than Chryst, but not at all someone who is going to get folks excited about anything.

If he were the first to see a fire in a theater, half of the folks there would die, because he wouldn't be able to motivate them to leave a burning building.

Well, they have been turned down many many times. DD is 56-34 overall. 3-1 bowls. He's not a sexy hire but that situation is toxic right now. Who were you expecting?

It could be worse, they could be Arizona State and their really bad hire.

While it is true his overall record as a head coach is 56 - 34, he's 33 - 30 at NCSU, including this season's 8 - 4 numbers.

He also was only a head coach for two years prior to taking the reins at State. And that was at a school not in a P-5 conference.

I know it's subjective, but I'm not sold on the guy. Maybe he would do great things in Knoxville. I would think he would want out of Raleigh while he is associated with a better than average season.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think he's great or even really good. But nobody wants this job right now.

As far as his NCSU record, they've never really been good. If I'm not mistaken they only have one single 10 win year in their history, back about 15 years ago. That is a long time without being really good.

O'Brien was fired after producing better results that what Doeren produced so far. The knock was recruiting was bad under O'Brien, but the guys I know say Doeren doesn't recruit much better and is a worse coach. One guy played there many moons ago. He can't stand the AD either.

O'Brien's final straw was the drill sergeant like approach he had with Russell Wilson regarding baseball.

I agree. I know Sandusky probably makes him unhireable, but the guy won at Rutgers. Rutgers! I'm not sure Nick Saban could win at Rutgers.

He won at Rutgers about 30 years ago as sports time goes.

Had he been hired by Pitt I’d be a little pissed as well. No way were fans at a place like Tennessee going to go for someone like him.

He was 28-48 in the Big East during his time he "won at Rutgers." Somehow it felt like all 28 of those wins were against Wanny too.
