OT: No uproar about RMU and Duquesne not playing this year ?

By the way it was posted it seemed that way. I wear Pitt goggles and don't live local. I'm in favor of the city games over the garbage we played tonight. Even if it means a bad loss sometimes, we do those on a frequent basis regardless. Some people have a higher regard for some reason. Elitism seems to be at an all time high.

You think another garbage team is better ?

Just to put that into perspective, if we go back and find Duquesne's seventh most recent win in the Pitt series we need to go back to when they beat us in the NIT at the Civic Arena in 1980.
Grg's last game. I don't know how Pitt would have done going forward had he stayed, but I know how big of a role he played in Pitt rising from the depths. Younger folks have no idea of how far we had fallen as a program, how far we were behind Duquesne in the local pecking order, or that we actually lost to Carnegie Mellon during Buzz Ridl's first year. Grg was basically responsible for the rise in talent that quickly occurred when Ridl took over. The guy bled blue and gold like no other, and his departure was a sad story.

To be fair, there was plenty of talk on here, if not in the media, when we stopped playing RMU every year. I recall Toole was pissed that Dixon was trying to give him a weak deal.
Pitt didn't want to give RMU the standard cupcake payment because they didn't have travel expenses. It was actually RMU that ended the series because of this.

They should play RMU 4 for 1 and Duquesne 2 for 1.

As for Dixon/RMU, I was ok with them offering RMU less since they didnt require a flight and hotel and they needed the game more. RMU was stupid not to accept Pitt's weak offer.

The other issue was that Pitt wanted the game in their "off week" in January or February while RMU want to keep it in November/December.

Yes, but that’s a meaningless statement. RMU ended it because Pitt played hardball, not because they were disinterested.

That’s no different than saying Pitt ended the PSU football rivalry because we refused a deal to play in State College every season. It’s a dumb straw man offer.
