Or just close bigelow between fifth and Forbes on M-F 8 am - 5pm. Couple of cones will do the trick.Haven't some floated this idea for near the Cathedral?

Permanently would be better.Or just close bigelow between fifth and Forbes on M-F 8 am - 5pm. Couple of cones will do the trick.
I agree but baby steps. Seriously, why that road is open to cars during weekday is beyond me.Permanently would be better.
Plenty of cross streets

Business owners bitch about it, not typical locals.Yinzer nation will be enraged and out in full force next time a closure attempt is made.

how in the hell can anyone complain about this? Seriously, it's impossible for this little stretch of road 200' long influences your daily commute, you are a clown. I cant see how it's possible. You cant turn up the road that Peters is on? You cant go another block past cathedral and make a left?Plenty of people who drive into work everyday will complain a ton. Even though Pitt would have a plan to move the traffic flow to other streets, people will not care. If it were the Rooney's needing the change because their multi billion dollar worth is too low, most citizens would be ok with it, but if big bad evil Pitt with them contributing to the region and society wants a change... it is only because they are trying to harm people.

Only person I honestly could see this effecting would be some early morning pitt employee who gets a parking spot at 5am in front of cathedral. that's it, no one else. I actually drove on that road about 10+ years ago, wasn't even thinking, was in Oakland on a weekday for something and sure enough, the second I did it, I was pissed at myself. Honestly I wanted to punch myself in face for being "that guy."
city doesn't like pitt cause it sits on valued real estate and they are tax exempt.People see Pitt has being this large behemoth with unlimited money and power, encroaching on them slowly as it attempts to take over the world. That's hyperbole of course, it's not far from what people believe. Last time citizens got organized to fought against it becuase... they are stupid and easily fooled. Probably mostly Trump voters.

so would a bridge or tunnel...think you guys underestimate the amount of traffic that flows on it and yes there are other cross (not that many two ways) streets but more congestion will build on the forbes and 5th because of it and the last time I checked kids have to cross those also (cept for that nice bridge over Forbes)...sounds like a great project for the Pitt student engineers...Or just close bigelow between fifth and Forbes on M-F 8 am - 5pm. bridge or tunnel bottlenecks everything. why wait to take a bridge when you can just cross a street? A tunnel sounds live overkill. Building some walkway bridge only stimulates more cars to take that road during the day which is a bad thing.so would a bridge or tunnel...think you guys underestimate the amount of traffic that flows on it and yes there are other cross (not that many two ways) streets but more congestion will build on the forbes and 5th because of it and the last time I checked kids have to cross those also (cept for that nice bridge over Forbes)...sounds like a great project for the Pitt student engineers...

they built a friggin expressway off of 22 for millions just for 7 home games in state college, but these idiots won't consider a simple improvement like closing Bigelow, But with wonderful leaders like Jim Ferlo, and Bike Lane Bill (huge nitter btw) what do you expect

like I said before, I drove on that little stretch of bigelow about 10 years ago and it took my 20 minutes and I blamed myself. I could have very easily taken s. bouquet, Oakland av, bellefield,or south craig and gotten to the same place in 1/3rd of the time. There is zero reason you cant ask a car to use on of the other cross roads during school hours in week.
Seriously, orange cones or a woden horse (is that what they are called, I don't even know) or a rope/chain will work. you can accomplish this with under $100 dollars, no engineering needed. lets not be the next FIU when orange cones will suffice..
you build a bridge then you get students out of the way and make it easier for cars to drive on bigelow. the only deterrent is the endless crossing of students which makes that 100' drive take 15 minutes. You eliminate that, more cars will use bigelow over the other cross roads. this isn't that hard to follow.Building some walkway bridge only stimulates more cars to take that road during the day which is a bad thing...whaaaat?
I will agree to disagree, but I think a solid nice looking bridge with a slow rising ramp from the student union with ornate railings in school colors (whatever in the hell they are this week) with a fancy decorative "Welcome to the University of Pittsburgh " facade would be cool. Sort of like Duquesne's bridge across the Blvd of Allies but with a nicer base.you build a bridge then you get students out of the way and make it easier for cars to drive on bigelow. the only deterrent is the endless crossing of students which makes that 100' drive take 15 minutes. I agree with you on fifth, that's a legit stretch of road, bigelow isn't, hence the reason you dig it up or block it off with cones. These kids have to play "Frogger" enough getting to class, give em a tad bit of freedom 25' in front of the cathedral for cryin out loud.
you got me thinking about this now. would have to be wide for sure but yeah, I could see this being a nice feature.I will agree to disagree, but I think a solid nice looking bridge with a slow rising ramp from the student union with ornate railings in school colors (whatever in the hell they are this week) with a fancy decorative "Welcome to the University of Pittsburgh " facade would be cool. Didn't Fitzgerald go to CMU? I think his wife is a Pitt Pharmacist.rich fiitzgerald and all 20 of his kids went to Penn State. Peduto tweets love for them during games. Why would these jokers have any interest in helping Pitt?
