That got pretty wild. Woke up and saw the "highlights" that someone posted with commentary.

Pitching high and inside is dangerous. If you want to brush a guy back, do it right.
Rushing the dugout from the mound has to be a new one.
A guy who was probably already traded still in the game and at the center of the fight?
A manager attacking another manager?

How does MLB not come down on both clubs with an iron fist?

the best move I've seen is kicking the catcher down then charging the mound. a truly great move.

I want to see someone get hit by a pitch and charge a position player, think that would be beautiful. Dude gets hit, starts to jog to first base then just sprints towards the 2nd basemen, for no reason, just starts throwing punches. that would be awesome.

What set the Reds pitcher off? His team was down 11-3 with 2 outs in the top of the 9th and both teams are in the basement of the division, you wouldn't think anyone would be burning any extra calories at that point.

yeah, they evened things up when they hit Marte. that was the eye for an eye retaliation. not sure why he was still mad..

I saw the whole thing and thought it was plain stupid on the Cincy pitchers part. Never in all my years following baseball have I seen that. Puig did get thrown out of the game, and deservedly so. The dude is nothing but a bully and loves to be a crybaby. I also thought that the plate ump was not in control like he should have been. When Puig threw his helmet after being upset about a pitch he should have been tossed immediately, in my opinion. All in all The Reds are a pile and acted like a bunch of punks. Not saying that the Pirates are totally blameless but the Reds were definitely the aggressors last night, the way I view it.

Puig might have been pissed because he probably knew he was heading to Cleveland already. Not sure why because Cleveland is right in the middle of challenging.

Interesting question, if he was already traded, have players from three different clubs ever been ejected from the same game?

It is. Garrett wanted this since then. Bucs knew it and badgered him from the dugout.
is it me or are the buccos always smack dab in the middle of a lot of drama? Cubs, cards, reds. everyone seems to really dislike us.

we aren't good enough to hate out of jealousy. the common denominator here is us, and our tendency to bean a hell of a lot of players.

Maybe it's because they can't punch Nutting, so hitting a player is the next best thing.

Is this all from the dude putting one in the river in April and watching it?

I think it goes a lot further back than that but it's stupid.

Imagine if football had some old, weird, unwritten rule that you score and just quietly jog off the field but if you celebrate, the other team takes a cheap shot on the next guy to touch the ball and half the fans say, "well, that's just the way it is in football".

Vontez Burfict having been cut from the Raiders has decided to try his hand at baseball. The Reds signed Burfict to a ML contract and is expected to be on the 25 man roster for every game against the Pirates.

Hearing this Hines Ward was signed by the Pirates for the league minimum.
Owner Bob Nutting applauded this move for the financial flexibility, the ability of Hines to draw fans to the ballpark, and as an answer for the Burfict signing.

Yeah, baseball fights are about as intense as a food fight in a catholic girl's high school. Time to pull an NHL move and start suspending anyone that leaves a dugout.

Speaking of Burfict, if the guy quoted extensively in his article wouldn't prosecute him, he should STFU.

Watch an MLB fight and count punches that actually land on a human!

I saw a fight when a coach let a guy to to control another guy and after being released the guy had ZERO interest in going after anyone?
That’s every fight in baseball. My question is, why do these guys run in from bullpen only to hug guys from the other team?

It’s a comedy act.

One other thing, and this has to do with the trade deadline. Just WTF was Neal Huntington doing? Really Neal, what? What were you doing? I am now officially on Stallings watch with you, I hope the Pirates lose every game by 25 wins.

But.....here's to the Dodgers. You finished second the last two years. I read somewhere that 4 of the 49 "prospects" traded at the deadline over the past few years made the All Star team (Vasquez is one of them). So...despite everyone loving "prospects" as much as they are sexy, they are still unproven. Vasquez is a proven thing.

And finally as a fan of the flightless bird franchise that plays its hockey here in Pittsburgh. Craig Simpson. Chris Joseph. Darrin Shannon. Doug Bodger. Zarly Zalapski. John Cullen. Angelo Esposito, Eric Christiansen, Ryan Whitney, Kasperi Kapanen, and some others were traded by the Penguins for Paul Coffey, Tom Barrasso, Marian Hossa, Pascal Dupuis, Chris Kunitz, Phil Kessel. All of those traded were premium prospects and draft picks. The Penguins have won 5 championships over the last 30 years. I think only the Patriots and maybe an NBA team has won more.

This is not a shot at the Pirates, but the Dodgers. What the hell are you guys doing??

I completely agree with you, Rivals. I cannot believe the Dodgers were not able to swing a trade with Pittsburgh. They are almost certainly going to regret that in October.

I read today that in addition to making Luxe unavailable, they also made unavailable any of their top THREE catching prospects and any of their top FOUR pitching prospects.

That is completely insane!

Exactly what were they offering for one of the best closers in baseball?

Further, they didn’t end up bolstering their bullpen at all. They did not add anyone.

When you are a bad defensive team, like LA is, and you have a shaky bullpen, like LA does, that does not typically bode well for you and October.

I think they really needed to add Vazquez and they are going to regret their decision to hoard prospects for a long time.

I cannot believe that Puig was still in the game after he was traded. It is among the dumbest things I’ve ever seen in pro sports.

David Bell should have been fired on the spot for risking a major addition to their roster - Bauers - for no apparent gain.
