OT: Pirates

Walk off !
"Freeze. The old timer lasts all night long"
To quote Steve Blass !
Much needed. Like I said, they have to win 3/4 of this series to stay in it, and then you have a brutal remaining schedule.

But how about Freese? He’s been on fire this series.

He's upping his trade value!! WOO HOO!
In all seriousness, you know who’d I’d be interested in trading? Francisco Cervelli. I thought he was a very likely trade candidate before the win streak. A good trading partner would be Boston, since Cervelli would be an upgrade at catcher for them.

I wouldn’t be opposed to a Cervelli trade centering around Bobby Poyner, a lefty. Only 25 years old, showed some flashes in the majors this year, and could make for a good bullpen arm. I think you could make this trade now that Diaz has proven to be a solid starting catcher, but it’d never happen since it’d make the Pirates look like sellers when they’re doing hot right now.

I am still half rooting for a sell off just to see the entertainment value. It has almost become Major League like, I wish I had a camera and truth serum with Huntingdon last night as Freese hit his walk off. If the Bucs lost, it would make it easier and more likely for them to sell.

I have no problem with smart trades. My opinion, there just are too many teams in the mix to jump over. My issues with the Pirates are when they were winning 98 games, there weren't "too many" teams to jump over and they tore it down instead of adding.

I thought Cervelli would be excellent trade bait before the season. A catcher with 2 years of control and a catcher behind him who, IMO, is better in Diaz.

Yeah, the problem is that you would be trading Cervelli at a low point in his value. No one is going to give you a good return for a guy with multiple concussions who just came off the concussion disabled list for the second time this season. He is, quite literally, one foul ball away from potentially missing the rest of the season (or worse).

Other question: Where is Jung Ho Kang? Is he even in Indy yet? Is he injured or even on the team still? Would be a good time to have him with all the injury bug out in full force. Could’ve put Freese at 1B and Kang at 3B.

He was playing in Indy then got hurt. I think he is still out. I actually think Kang will be our shortstop next year if he gets healthy and starts producing. I don’t see the Pirates signing Mercer again.

This team would have a worse record if Cole and McCutcheon were still here. Baseball is all about getting into a rhythm as a team. Despite their abilities both became a cancer to the team in their final years which I think would have offset any additional talent they would have added. I like this team and their resilience. Went through a long rough stretch but I think they truly believe in management right now about being buyers or sellers at the trade deadline. We will see what happens.

My prediction. The Buccos try and find a bullpen arm, but basically stay pat. As much as they would love to dump some of those players, the fact they are now what, a game or 2 out of the WC, they can't, and the return they would get for some of these guys, is not going to be that great anyways.

So don't break up the band, add a piece, use the bullpen to shorten games, and see what happens.

Very very very nice Saturday night win.
35900 show up for it

Buccos punch out the Big Guy w/o Bell and Dickerson

Fingers crossed but 7/8/9 out of the bullpen is settling down nicely at least right now.

Nutting still sucks but

Let’s Go Bucs.

Agree there move should be to mostly stand pat. I would try and add a bullpen arm as well but there is no way I am trading Meadows or Baez or any of their top prospects for a Bullpen arm.

And there are too many teams to jump to get into the WC. While I am mostly critical of this Mgmt Team and more specifically garbage owner, this is not the year for them to go for it as they are 4 out of WC and like 7 out of Division with multiple teams to jump.
