OT - Rhule to Baylor

Weird fit. But he played under Sandusky and Baylor is also synonymous with rape so I guess there's that.

I don't know his background but this seems to be a bit of a surprise.

Background on Rhule;
Jensen: How Temple's Rhule made it at Penn State
Rhule was conditioned for it, born in State College. His father had grown up there. Rhule visited his grandparents there while living most of his childhood in New York City.

At the end of a conversation focusing on his New York years, Rhule was asked if there was a story about walking on at Penn State.

Actually, Rhule said, yes.

His path to a uniform wasn't a straight one. For several days, he was a manager. For a time, he wasn't let in the football building. But he eventually made it on the team and saw time for the Nittany Lions on special teams.

"I've been everything on a football team, from a head coach to an equipment manager, to a captain for the number three [high school] team in the country to a walk-on that no one knew his name," Rhule said in an interview in his office before the season.

The week before Rhule's first game as a head coach back in 2013, I'd asked him about playing at Penn State for Joe Paterno, how he studied Paterno's approach.

"Little things," Rhule said. "Most coaches talk to the team every day. He didn't. Most coaches call the team over after practice and talk to them. He didn't."

Rhule understood why Paterno held himself back.

"He knew how to make his voice fresh," Rhule said. "It's like, if he talked, you listened. Even though at the time he was 70 and I was 17 or 18. He talked just enough."

Makes sense. Rhule can win and seems like a high character guy, two things they desperately need to stay relevant and avoid further scandals.

Mooehead to Temple would make a lot of sense. He just interviewed for the Purdue job and I'd say the Temple job is a bigger and better job than Purdue, even if its not P5.

Bad fit. I mean yeah, strike while the iron is hot because this is the best job currently available to him (he wasn't getting the Oregon job), but this just seems so similar to Al Goldon going to Miami. Different style than before, program coming off a scandal, foreign recruiting territory, etc. wish him the best of luck, though. Hope he does well.

interesting. i mentioned fedora a few times, apparently he wanted and would have taken the baylor job.

The only thing that may stop Moorehead from interviewing for a job like Temple is that he thinks he can go higher. Would you take a job at Temple when you're the OC at the #5 team in the country and almost got the Purdue job? Maybe he thinks another low P5 can open up where he can get it.

Agreed that this is an odd fit but Rhule doesn't come across as disingenuous wannabe douche bag like Golden.

Some are calling upon Charlie Strong too!

Maybe, but Ruhle parlayed it into Baylor. And sometimes low P5 jobs are death knells. Money usually better though.

Yea, its tough to go from a P5 coordinator to a mid-tier P5 HC job although we did hire the last 2. To take a job at Purdue or Rutgers or Wake Forest isnt ideal. The Herman path is better. Get a high G5 job then parlay that into a high P5 job.

Fedora & Fuente & Babers did that too?

PSU graduate's 1 senior on offense and returns arguably the best running back and group of receivers in the country, to go along with the top receiving tight end in school history. PSU's offense will be breaking records next year and he will get much better offers than Temple.

And yet Matt Canada was even better. Go figure. OF course Pitt did beat PSU running for 350 yards and never trailing for a second.

Clearly...that's why all the schools is interviewing him for head coaching positions right now.
There were reports a couple weeks back that he was not happy with Franklin interfering with the offense. Joe has HC experience already and wants to get a D1 gig. Wish him well.

Pitt with a veteran offensive line out gained PSU by 26 yards. PSU's offensive line consists of 3 freshman and a sophomore playing the second game of the season. Lets call that a draw.

Your brain isn't working. Go back to your own board.
I don't make the rules, I just play by them, and you violated rule number 4...You have been reported.

Do not post unsubstantiated rumors about players,

coaches, etc. If you have a link to a news story, that is one
thing. But if you have heard something 'from a friend of a friend,'
this is not the website to post innuendo and rumor. Those posts will be
removed.

I'll call it a decisive win. PSU scored a few late TD's to make it respectable. If you want to call a loss a draw you may.

Wow... you are dilusional... you might not be intelligent... but...

LINKS ON TEMPLE NEW COACH:
9. Bob Shoop, Tennessee. Shoop made a lateral move as defensive coordinator from Penn State to Tennessee, where he hopes to help lead the Volunteers to their first SEC East title since 2007. Shoop went only 7-23 as head coach of Columbia from 2003-05, but he's done a tremendous job as defensive coordinator under James Franklin at Vanderbilt and Penn State (14th in yards per play last season) and now has stellar talent to work with in Knoxville. Columbia is a tough Ivy League job. Given Shoop's track record since then, he's earned a chance at a program with better resources.

“We’ll consider everybody,” Kraft said. “We will talk to everybody that we think is a viable candidate. I can tell you right now my cell phone is dead from calls and e-mails from coaches and agents and friends across the country.”

As Temple has put together back-to-back 10-win seasons and bowl berths, Kraft acknowledge that the heading coaching spot with the Owls has changed since they hired Rhule in 2013.

“We have proven that we can win here, we have proven that this is a program that can compete at the highest level,” Kraft said. “It’s a program that has great student athletes.”

The issue of assistant coach departures is not something Kraft has addressed yet.

“This has been a whirlwind,” Kraft said. “We haven’t really had that conversation at all yet and we will shortly.”

In the meantime, it appears that a handful of Temple assistant coaches have or will decide to follow Rhule to Texas. Evan Cooper, who played at Temple and served as Temple’s Director of Player Personnel under Rhule, will have the same position at Baylor, according to Corey Bender. Offensive coordinator Glenn Thomas, a former assistant at Texas Tech and Texas native, is another candidate to join Rhule at Baylor. Recruiting coordinator E.J. Barthel could also leave Philadelphia.

Kraft said keeping things intact with recruiting is a “concern,” as Temple will host its first official visit weekend - beginning Dec. 9 – likely without a head coach in place, while the future of multiple assistant coaches also remains unclear.

“We’ll actively sit down and talk about how we can keep our recruits,” Kraft said. “That’s always a concern. And then the concern of the guys that are here.”

When asked about keeping a coach for the long term, Kraft said the college football landscape includes coaches bouncing around.

“Coaches are leaving institutions across the space, right?” Kraft said. “I can’t sit here and say, ‘The individual we hire is going to be here forever.’ Matt had a lot of opportunities last year and he stayed. We have the commitment from the university, our administration. That’s what you can continue to do. What I can say is that we’ll go out and get the best coach for the job and continue this momentum.”

Kraft listed a couple items he will look for in his first head football coaching search as Temple’s athletic director.

“I will say that this has to be a good man,” Kraft said. “You’ve got to be able to recruit this area and you’ve got to be really strong there. You’ve got to understand the institution and where we’re located. We’re going to have great student athletes.

“This is not just a X’s and O’s job. It’s a vocation almost and working with really, really good young men and continuing to bring in really, really good men.”

Why did you put an apostrophe after "graduate"?

Rule 1a. Use the apostrophe to show possession. To show possession with a singular noun, add an apostrophe plus the letter s.

Examples:
a woman's hat
the boss's wife
Mrs. Chang's house

Rule 1b. Many common nouns end in the letter s (lens, cactus, bus, etc.). So do a lot of proper nouns (Mr. Jones, Texas, Christmas). There are conflicting policies and theories about how to show possession when writing such nouns. There is no right answer; the best advice is to choose a formula and stay consistent.

Rule 1c. Some writers and editors add only an apostrophe to all nouns ending in s. And some add an apostrophe + s to every proper noun, be it Hastings's or Jones's.

One method, common in newspapers and magazines, is to add an apostrophe + s ('s) to common nouns ending in s, but only a stand-alone apostrophe to proper nouns ending in s.

Examples:
the class's hours
Mr. Jones' golf clubs
the canvas's size
Texas' weather

Care must be taken to place the apostrophe outside the word in question. For instance, if talking about a pen belonging to Mr. Hastings, many people would wrongly write Mr. Hasting's pen (his name is not Mr. Hasting).

Correct: Mr. Hastings' pen

Another widely used technique is to write the word as we would speak it. For example, since most people saying "Mr. Hastings' pen" would not pronounce an added s, we would write Mr. Hastings' pen with no added s. But most people would pronounce an added s in "Jones's," so we'd write it as we say it: Mr. Jones's golf clubs. This method explains the punctuation of for goodness' sake.

Rule 2a. Regular nouns are nouns that form their plurals by adding either the letter s or es (guy, guys; letter, letters; actress, actresses; etc.). To show plural possession, simply put an apostrophe after the s.

Correct: guys' night out (guy + s + apostrophe)
Incorrect: guy's night out (implies only one guy)

Correct: two actresses' roles (actress + es + apostrophe)
Incorrect: two actress's roles

Rule 2b. Do not use an apostrophe + s to make a regular noun plural.

Incorrect: Apostrophe's are confusing.
Correct: Apostrophes are confusing.

Incorrect: We've had many happy Christmas's.
Correct: We've had many happy Christmases.

In special cases, such as when forming a plural of a word that is not normally a noun, some writers add an apostrophe for clarity.

Example: Here are some do's and don'ts.

In that sentence, the verb do is used as a plural noun, and the apostrophe was added because the writer felt that dos was confusing. Not all writers agree; some see no problem with dos and don'ts.

Only a nitter would come to the Pitt board and threaten to report someone because they don't agree with them.

more often than not those jobs are just about impossible to win at. Look at RU, they are clearly behind OSU,MI and PSU. That's three losses to start the season. Tough to go 6-3 every year and that's to just get to .500 and 'RU does have a local talent base. Purdue would be even worse. A place like temple, is much easier to win at. They actually have a advantage on their competition in name recognition. Your probably better off winning big at temple and then getting a good P5 program.

Heck, you are probably better off at a decent MAC school than Purdue or Rutgers.

Sure. Temple's last three coaches got hired at Miami, Boston College, and Baylor - all P5 schools. Remove Joe Tiller and Purdue has been a graveyard for coaches for years. Their last 3 coaches got fired, fired, and retired.

Was traveling . . . turned on the car radio and . . . WTH?

One perhaps little-known aspect of Rhule's background does make the move to Baylor, though a surprise, make sense. He's the son of missionary parents, so maybe Baylor is making an attempt to be what they've always claimed to be.

Moorhead can use the temple job to get a better job much easier than using the purdue job too. Purdue is a complete disaster.
