OT: STEELERS vs RAVENS

Here is how the post game crew described the Steelers.

Absolutely dominated
Another one and done
Absolute blow out loss
Same story different year
Outclassed once again
Can’t compete
Losing game plan
Completely dominated
Sluggish and brutal on offense
Entire off-season to figure out why this has happened once again.
It’s copy and paste (from year to year)
Coaching staff has to look in mirror
Disappointed
Can’t come out flat
Uninspired
Unfocused
Abysmal
Frustrating
Ravens clinic
Disaster
Big brother vs little brother
Steelers dribbled down their legs

If I could infect Rooney with common sense ideas they'd be:
1. Excuse Tomlin. Whether trade, fire and suggested resignation
2. Trade TJ, in fact he may be seeking that anyhow and I wouldn't blame him
3. Trade Minkah
4. Trade Freirmuth
5. Trade Pickens

Begin a rebuild which really won't take too long with all the capital they'd get back.
There has to be a major overhaul of the team.

Upset about the loss but more upset about the manner in which we lost by being totally dominated every phase of the game. Fifteen consecutive running plays, just totally unacceptable.

Tomlin will remain but I think he going to force to make major change in how he needs to win you can't win in today's game relying on just defense.

  • Pickens is cheap and good. That is the last thing you trade.
  • Tomlin has a no trade. You either fire him or hope he resigns. I doubt the Rooney's will pay him to sit for two years so he is likely back.
  • TJ Watt only has one year left with the Steelers. Minkah has two years left on the contract. I doubt Watt gets more than a 2nd rnd pick given his production this year and his contract length.
  • What team wants to pay $12m a year for him?? You will have to cut him.

GP only has one year left and you know he's looking to get paid like a #1. He's not worth #1 money.
A 2nd round pick is still a very good spot for TJ.

Regardless, we all know Teflon Tom is coming back. I just wish Rooney wasn't incompetent like Bob Nutting and sacked up and canned him.

Exactly. And a no trade clause means nothing. Rooney would never send Mike to a place without Mike’s agreement to it. It’s not how Rooney operates.

I’m going to be real petty here. I want to see everyone trash Wilson for that performance. I know they won’t, but his line is the biggest freaking mislead of all time. Him and the offense stunk until the ravens went into protection mode

I heard Dulac the other day on the radio, and he was passing off Wilson’s issues onto other players and issues around him. Yet last year, it was all Kenny according to Dulac.

Said that this would happen at the end of last year when Mike Tomlin was more than eager to ship out a quarterback, who gave his offense life all of a sudden to bring in a washed up veteran because he’s comfortable with that.

There’s a reason the Broncos were willing to dump Russ and eat the salary. We saw part of it yesterday. He’s a midget who can no longer scramble to buy time. He can’t see the middle of the field now that he’s not as mobile so he’s limited to chucking it down the sideline and short dump offs outside

The other reason they dumped him is because In Denver he had become a Diva. Getting cut seemed to bring him back to earth and he apparently cleaned up his act.

Will be interesting to see how much he commands on the open market and what the Steelers do There didn’t appear to be too much interest in Wilson when he was essentially free so I doubt there are many if any teams willing to pony up big money for him but time will tell

All accurate and objective.
Pretty much what everyone in Steelers nation is saying as well.
Now what will they do about it?

If Baltimore continues to play like they did last night, it will be interesting to see what ANY team can/will do to slow that offense down?
Getting Derek Henry was the acquisition of the year, maybe tied with Barkley, but man, teaming him with Lamar is quite a one two punch for teams to defend.

Their defense has stiffened as well, although they are still vulnerable to a good passing attack.
I guess the best way to beat them is to get ahead of them and force Lamar to throw the ball. He's gotten better, but that is probably the weakest link in his armor.

Watching Lamar toy with the Steelers pass rush was a pretty sad spectacle. He never panicked, just juked and dodged for as long as it took for someone to pop wide open.

TJ had a record number of tackles, unfortunately 90% of them were tackling Henry when he didn't have the ball!
Anyone who really believed the Steelers could beat Baltimore last night is intoxicated on Black and Gold Koolaid! It was amazing they only lost by 2 TD's.

The off season for Pittsburgh is going to be interesting. They will say good bye to a bunch of players, but probably not the marquee players bandied about in this thread.

Moore for sure, probably Najee, and the whole host of tire patches they grabbed to try to piece things together. There are some nice pieces to build around. The O line should be much better with Fautanu back. They have decent LB'ers, and Porter takes care of one side in the back. Need to see if the Michigan WR taken in the third round is a player when healthy.

Biggest needs outside of coaching shake up, whatever form that takes, are another CB, another premier WR, a RB, safety help, some youth on D line, quality O line backup, and of course the QB.

The QB decision will be Paramount, as it always is. No idea what is in their heads at this point. Since both on the roster are FA's, something has to give.

Tomlin won't be going anywhere, so everyone can wish all they want but THAT will not be happening. It defies logic and Steeler history. That is not to say other coaches aren't in trouble, and a change in philosophy would be great, who knows if Tomlin is even capable of such an adaptation?

There was a play in fourth quarter that epitomized TJ for me. At that point there was still mathematical hope. Lamar faked a handoff to the back and ran to the right. TJ was so focused on the back he didn’t even see Lamar still had the ball. TK actually was in position to make a tackle on Lamar but ran past Lamar while Lamar ran for an easy first down.

TJ is a great splash guy but a crap basic defender.

How can you be so certain that Tomlin won't step down on his own accord? Some people actually do some introspection and make decisions accordingly. I'm Not saying I expect this, but, the possibility exists. You can only beat your head off a wall so many years in a row and expect things to get better.

You are a Steelers apologist. The Ravens will more than likely lose the next round. The Steelers got punked and were scared to tackle Henry. The Ravens didn’t even have their one and only true outside weapon in Flowers.

Nothing is certain, but Tomlin clearly loves what he's doing. He's very well paid, obviously has a boss other coaches would kill to have, and wins enough games to keep the stands full and "hope" alive.

He won't quit. He'll want to prove he's better than that playoff record says he is. You can tell it is really bothering him, he brings it up now unprompted. His bag, blah blah blah.

Anything that changes with the Steelers, won't include Tomlin. Pretty safe bet.

Pot calling kettle black? How's Nardawg doing for ya??

The Ravens may lose the next round, but that is far from certain the way Jackson and Henry are playing. If you're so sure, bet your house on it! You'll have lots of NIL $$ to throw around!

What is there to apologize for? They got dominated, pure and simple. It was predictable given the tailspin they were in entering the game.

The Steelers obviously had no answers for that running attack, reverting to previous years defenses that sucked against the run.

Remember the days when the Steelers defensive players would actually hit the offense??? It's sad how much this defense tackles like Pitt's...more get in the way versus laying a blow.

My opinion, when it all comes down to it. Until this entire organization, from that bozo at the top on down realize that you win in today's NFL with OFFENSE, OFFENSE, OFFENSE, we are going to be watching this same movie next season. Defense and Running doesn't win. All you need is a good offense and a bang average defense and you'll do just fine and be competitive.

In fact I don't even believe they make the playoffs next season. Ravens will win the division again, Cincy I think will improve on the defensive side and of course Teflon Tom will lose @ Cleveland.

Non conference in 2025
@ Chicago, Probably a W but this could probably be one of the typical Teflon Tom losses
@ Detroit. L
@ LA Chargers. 50/50
@ New England Patriots. 50/50
@ NY Jets. W
Buffalo. L
Miami. W
Green Bay. L
Minnesota. L
Indy. W
Seattle. 50/50

2-4 in the AFC North

This is pretty much based off the thoughts that absolutely nothing will change this off season. Add a few things here, a few things there.

Anything that changes with the Steelers, won't include Tomlin. Pretty safe bet.

Changes will happen when:

The stands are no longer full and the fans lose hope....

When the players become more out of control on the field and in the locker room...

When the team's reputation is tarnished and they are no longer considered the model franchise...

When the national media realizes that Tomlin is a fraud and says so loud and clear...

* There are many problems on this team and Tomlin is the key. Their coaching staff are a bunch of "yes" men. Even if you make changes to the staff, they will be replaced with other "yes" men. He has no coaching tree. He wants coaches who will not challenge him.

* His philosophy on winning games will not change. He believes in running the football and playing defense (Rooney believes this as well) and the Steelers can do neither. The NFL has evolved into a offensive game and Tomlin & Rooney are stuck in the 1970's.

* Tomlin is a players coach to a fault. There are no consequences for bad behavior and lack of discipline and that's not going to change as long as he's around...

If you want to changes FAST, There is only one solution and that's to fire Tomlin. Otherwise, they will be wandering in the desert for years....
